Today’s easy beginner acrylic painting tutorial is of a beautiful ruby-throated hummingbird flying in a colorful floral flower landscape garden in the background. Throughout the easy step-by-step art tutorial, you'll learn fundamental beginner painting techniques, on how to mix and blend acrylic paint using color theory to create an animal portrait and a natural flower landscape with summer colors. You'll learn how to draw with acrylics on canvas, how to draw and paint a hummingbird, how to draw and paint an out-of-focus bokeh background with flowers, petals, stamen, and grass. Brushes: 3/4 inch flat bristle, #6 round synthetic, #2 round synthetic
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, burnt umber (brown), mars black, green oxide, ultra marine blue, deep yellow, magenta
Other: chalk, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 3/4 inch bristle brush --Paint base coat on canvas with white, brown, green, magenta, yellow, black
2. 3/4 inch bristle brush - Finish out of focus background with peach (made in step 1), lavender made in step 1), white, yellow, green, brown, blue, magenta
3. Chalk - Draw outline for bird
4. #6 round brush -- Paint base coat for bird with magenta, blue, black, white, brown
5. 3/4 inch bristle brush - Finish big pink flowers with white, magenta, yellow, purple (made in step 4), peach, brown
6. #6 round brush - Paint body and tail feathers with black, brown, green, lavender, yellow, white, peach, blue, pink (made in step 5), light brown (made in step 4)
7. #6 round brush - Paint wings with black, brown, light brown, white, peach, purple, blue, pink
8. #2 round brush - Finish head and neck with black, white, lavender, light brown, purple, pink, peach, magenta
9. #2 and #6 round brushes - Paint green plant and foot with black, green, brown, yellow, white
10. 3/4 inch bristle brush - Paint main flower with blue, magenta, white, purple, black, lavender, peach
11. #2 round brush -- Sign with brown

Michelle I fell in love with the beautiful little hummingbirds when I visited my cousin in Canada, I have painted the hummingbird with the hibiscus and I will give this one a go. 💖🇦🇺🙏

I did this one before I went on vacation. I did it on a smaller canvas and love it. My eldest granddaughter loves hummingbirds she and her paternal grandfather's loved setting up the bird feeder and watch the hummingbirds come and eat. Her grandfather past away many years ago. I love this painting so much I am going to paint again in a 16x20 canvas and give it to her. Thank you Bob for this amazing photo and thank you Michelle for your amazing talent. .

Hi there MTP first I’d like to say Bob took a great photo. He must have a really long lens. Way to go Bob!!!!! And MTP I love this series the best. Wish it was more often. You have not painted for us regular folks in a long time. Missed you ❤. Haven’t written you in a long while either. Furbaby is doing ok. It’s been a long hard road. Male hummingbirds are the most colorful . So I'd say it's a male.
