In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzread.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

I have an old Humminbird 197C in my boat and I’m researching for something new. The manufacturers of the various brands do not do a good job of explaining things. It’s like you need a PHD for fish finders or something…..Thanks for making this video…..It’s the most in depth and easy to understand video I have found for the Helix. I just order one today from Cabelas. Mine is the Helix 7 G3N. “N” stands for Networkable” so it will link to other units and a Minn Kota trolling motor with I-pilot.

I believe the timer is for fishing tourneys so you know much time you have and how long u have been fishing. Also the temp for the unit can be used for water temp or air temp depending on if the transducer is mounted to the transom or if its inside the hull. Obviously if its mounted inside the hull you won't get water temp only air temp.

Contour mode removes water column and rectifies the image. In slant mode, which contains the water column, the image area over the bottom is compressed. Placing unit in contour mode corrects this.

you can purchase a helix 7 that IS networkable. you bought the G2, but the G2N is networkable.

The temp alarm is not for the unit temperature. It is for water temperature.

For the read outs, does the helix 7 have an odometer reading to tell me how many miles I've traveled?

I just bought 2 of them on close out at bass pro for 880 out the door with mounts I could’ve went with networking and would’ve loved it but didn’t see it worth an extra 700 dollars

If you push the menu button once, you can change the sonar colors by scrolling all the way down to imaging colors. Instead of having to go into the extended menu and wasting your time looking for it.

would timer be more for charters? just curious - looking at this model currently.

Temperature alarm is not for the unit. It's for water temperature it alerts you when you're in the water temperature that you're looking for. 83kz is wide. 200kz is narrow.

Surface clutter works well for ice fishing.

Is this a gen 2 helix ? If so I spoke with a rep from hummingbird and they told me the gen 2 helix 7 can be networked with other units

Between this and the lowrance hook 5 reveal, which one would you have at the steering wheel and the bow?

I just got this one the 3GN. I find this one works better at the console while I hunt. I have a Lowrance 7 reveal at the front on the trolling motor transducer. That works for me

Can you give me the exact setting to be able to see the lure falling (Jigging Spoons or Drop Shot) on the sonar of the unit? I have tried everything including talking to Humminbird three times and I still can't see the lure falling.

Philip Elrod yeah what he said plus lower your surface clutter and may have to switch to max mode but I use my helix 7 on the ice In the winter and I can see a little tungsten ice jig at 30 feet just remember if ur baits not in the cone no matter what you do u won't see it

can you use the trolling motor and fish finder on the same battery at the same time without causing a problem with the fish finder?

+Alvin Nelson I've seen it in very few instances. Most of the time though, you will get interference from the trolling motor on the Graph's screen.

after having this for a little while how do you compare this to your Lowrance. . couple things I have found is hummingbird doesn't have chirp yet .. but the clarity on di and si surpasses what Lowrance can offer.. would u agree or can u give me an opinon on what u think between the 2

+Zach Moore I had the Lowrance Chirp series units, and they wold show a little more separation on it's standard sonar, but to me I would never go back to Lowrance until they can offer this kind of tech in one unit without having to spend an extra 500+ for SI imaging. That separation, to me, is offset by the fact that I can have not only my standard sonar, but also SI and DI on the same scree. At that point if you can't differentiate where the fish are with all 3 techs at once, then you aren't using your units right in the first place.

+B Bass Fishes Lowrance just released a new unit call the Elite TI version. Its a touch screen version which has SI. The Elite 5ti is going for $499. This may end up being the hummingbirds worst nightmare in regards to their Helix units. I am going to be buying a graph this year so I've been doing a lot of research.

You may not have the correct transducer installed, or your specific model may not have the feature. It can’t be downloaded, the unit must have the feature built in.

What battery loss are you finding? My battery reading 12.5 volt after charging and letting it sit couple weeks, my fishfinder showed 12.3 volts. Could unit drain down .2 or maybe voltage loss through wires?

+SEAGULL FISHERMAN Not much at all. My voltage always tends to sit around 14v. When sitting without usage I always have my batteries charging, so I have never seen an issue with it.

+SEAGULL FISHERMAN I just installed a battery switch. I had a drain somewhere on my boat and it was killing batteries if I let it sit without a trickle charger on it. Battery switch fixed that problem.

BPS has these on sale right now and I'm wanting to buy one. It is the Helix 7 SI G2. Problem is it doesn't mention side imagining in the description. I checked the Q & A on their website and and 2 people asked if it has side imaging and down imaging. A rep from BPS first said it only had down imaging then a month later the same rep said it had down and side. I'd just like to confirm it does have both before I order it. Can anyone confirm?

@ 7:00 The frequency has nothing to do with the width of the beam, it is the wavelength. The higher the frequency, the shorter the wavelength and the more detail you will get. In turn, the lower freqs will go deeper but will give less detail.

83khz is actually the wider beam.

What they do not tell you, if you place a memory stick whether, for a chart or any purpose, The Helix loses its water tightness due to the door being held open and the plug will not go back

for someone looking to buy one of these, you just turned me off of it. know your stuff man!

200 hz is narrower beam than the 83 hz.

Would have been better if the ubits was being held still!!!

Save money and buy Garmin ECHOMAP 7 or better. Reason is they included legacy models to except new transducers. Hummingbird doesn't have a wide range of compatible transducers. This is why they sale like 5 different models with dam near 5 different transducers

@@waynemorrison1013 That dealer is wrong. My boat tops out at 37mph and the 2D sonar works at all speeds. Of course Side Scan won't work at higher speeds. Side Scan is best at 5mph and lower. Adjust the speed on the Helix to match boat speed or adjust Helix screen speed to 1mph over boat speed for best Side Scan imaging. Is that dealer pushing Lowrance? 😁
