Humble Pie & Painkillers: Camino de Santiago Diaries #6
My raw and honest account of the Camino de Santiago (Camino Frances) where my initial arrogance and pride are commanding a high price.
I’m forced to confront my own limitations.
From the initial excitement and ambition to the harsh realities of pain and injury, I'll take you through the highs and lows of my journey.
Learn how I've come to appreciate the beauty of slowing down and the importance of humility in the face of adversity. Join me on this transformative and very humbling experience.
note
I’m filming, wrote and editing these episodes as I’m walking the Camino. I don’t really know how I’ve pulled it off so far, but it’s pretty taxing. And yet, I have to do it.
I’m editing these on an iPhone, in bed at an albergue, so there will be some rough edges here and there.

Hello Gerrit, I am very sorry for this setback, although this situation will lead you to new experiences...
I too tweaked my knee(s) on the first day and spent the first week or so hobbling along with painkillers (certainly not recommended). My knees did come right though and I picked up some hiking poles which I very much should have had from the start and would use in the future.
Well stated, buen camino.
Wow, sorry about your knee.
You have the opportunity to listen to your body. You can feel blisters, before they are growing painfully, and you can feel everything that has to be taken care of, long before it becomes so bad that you'd have to end a journey. Many people tend to not listen and try to force themselves by so called will power. But there is no such thing as will power.
perhaps roast chicken will help?
dear Gerrit, your voice seems to be exhausted, I pity you.... But that´s life, the Camino is teaching you: sometimes there are times of pain, but you will overcome, I,m sure.
Hope your knees heal soon and you can start enjoying the Camino!
rest up, buddy
Buen Slowmino 🌸
You can do it... i was 82 Aug. 2032.... my legs were done one step at a time.... i used walk ing canes.... i did it... take your time and enjoy the time and.moment..
Feel better. Without valleys in life, we can not enjoy the peaks.
Hi Garrett. maybe consider walking poles if knee does not improve by Logrono. You are wise to listen to your body. Camino walking can be a wonderful teacher if our hearts are open to its messages and you are already listening to your body. Good job and PS videos are great. Enjoying them very much. Thank you for putting in the time and effort. Buen camino.
You have nothing to proof out there, I think. You‘ve walked the Camino more than once and even did an incredible spurt into Santiago at the end of your last Camino.
Hi Garrett, Actromadol 660mg
I’m sorry that your knee is bothering you So much. Nice lesson that you get out of it and that you listen to your body. Good memories of the overnight stay. Good luck Tomorrow.
😇 hopefully careful with knees...maybe sending backpack with bus to the next albergue... it's serious with knees.
Hi are you walking the Camino today
What a lovely idea to turn your inner world into a video to share. Really enjoyed it.
People often forget that while the Camino provides it also can 'take'. A wise decision to get the bus. After all the Camino is an internal journey not an ego trip. The Camino is also a metaphor for life and how we take so much for granted. Your video may have saved my Camino in June--"6th time--"no bother, a piece of cake" No. Rest up in Pamplona, slow down and get walking poles. Thank you for your honesty and bravery in sharing and turning a potential negative into a positive. Buen Camino.
