Around 2.2% of India’s population live with some kind of disability, according to a recent statistics released.Most of the people with movement disorders in rural areas, often live in poverty facing exclusion and severe mobility challenges. With the lack of access to education, healthcare services and stable employment, they are often denied the basic human and social rights.
Differently-abled people deserve fair treatment & dignity like all of us. Though there are many agencies advocating for their rights, millions of people with disabilities still have their basic needs unmet, experience some kind of abuse and are often overlooked while seekingstableemployment.
In this episode of ‘Humanity Matters’, Dr. Shilpa Samuel Dhinakaran discusses with few differently-abled persons about their day-to-day struggles and limited livelihood opportunities. Also, watch some ‘enabled’ overcomers recount their stories on how effective rehabilitation measures and assistive devices helped them to break barriers and unleash their full potential towards success.
