Nah mankind lost the 7 hour war for good, got our ass cheeks clapped real bad to the point where our population reduced from billions to around millions. But damn we ain't gonna lose our humanity.

7 hour war as a concept is honestly the weakest part of half life's lore. I understand the current combine on earth in HL2 is just a holding force but it's just unreasonable that it's somehow the same faction that wiped all the superpowers out, when they're still vulnerable to conventional small arms.

@@mujtaba_1315 Combine having that extreme of an overmatch against humanity makes the game and everything we "accomplish" in it almost completely pointless. It's a product of early 2000s storytelling and themes. The only possible answer to progress the story is an absurdly overpowered macguffin or another combine strength organization from somwhere else in space and doing all the work for them.
