I love double legs and first learned this way but since then I have learned a blast double. It so much easier and quicker, you just move your head to the center of their chest and sweep the legs as you drive forward. It also works better on bigger guys since you have more momentum then they do.
saw a mate do this at soccer the other day, gota love 4 red cards in 1 game :)
WOW,this is a REALLY strong technique,i see this one in some wrestling i think
well said my friend! do what you can to survive. have a happy new year!
fantastic move
awsome vid
Looks like some good ol medieval wrestling =]
This is soo good i did this in school on a friend when we was fighting and he was realy hurt after!
Letting the target lay on the floor figuring out how it happened is good. His energy is depleted by getting up. LoL Over & over again & again.
thats like the real spinebuster!
Because going for the legs is a common move they train to counter. Since you have to duck down to get at the legs, they'll just wrap your head under their arm-pit and roll back. In short, by lifting their legs off, you're letting them pull you and your head down. If they apply any pressure, your neck will start to pull apart. Look at the video at 0:05. The guy's head is right under the arm. A sambist would grab it, and fall backwards.
Hi Wilmic48, the equation relates to the transfer of energy between the two bodies. There's kinetic energy (Ke), which is possessed by a moving object and is the product of mass "m" and velocity "v". Then there is Gravitational potential energy (GPe), possessed by objects raised above the ground and it is the product of mass "m", the pull of gravity "g" and the height "h" of the object above the ground. It seems the equation is just saying Ke = GPe or 1/2mv^2 = m*g*h. Hope that helps a bit.
You're right: You're setting yourself up for a ridiculous guillotine here.
It's awesome how they show you the physics like formula in these parts of the show ahhhahah
a pound of feathers would actually probably experience more air drag while falling on someone, so it would probably hurt less.
thats good
i love the equations! haha they make me feel less nerdy lol since i love physics and i know all of the equations used here lol XD

It's been 12 years, hope you're doing well man
@WIGTRON5000 What gym do you train at? You push your head into his abdomen not his thigh any lower than his waist and you'll find yourself against a sprawl which could lead to a guillotine, anaconda choke etc.
@EDungarian Torque is twisting force, genius. Like an axle.
they should put all this shit together, and make one big fight with the clips off all the other moves they've gotten so far
Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate of the force from a regular, suprise double leg? One that the dominant person can quickly scramble from a full guard(well not really if the guy on his back is still recovering) into a full mount, with a full shoot.
Greco-Roman doesn't have leg takedowns, only upper-body throws. Jiu-jitsu fighters utilize the full gamut of takedowns; what they learn varies from teacher to teacher.
yes as a wrestler we call that a shot. you step with your lead leg and lean forward droping that leg down to the ground on a knee. After that you slide the other leg posting on the ground. then you drive your opponent to the ground
@SwisherMeister Honestly it comes down to strength, the ammount of lift and torc you can generate before thrusting the opponent is what causes the flow of energy. :D
what techniques might those be? also, takedowns like these, I see them as ending up with a guillotine to the person attempting the takedown. is there something I'm missing?
Johnf85, sure breakfalls/ukemi works but a trained fighter doesn't do this move and this move alone. Guaranteed that most people who practice this move in MMA do this to get you on the ground and use their ground fighting skills. This move is used mainly to change the pace of fighting from standing to ground.
@andrusbgx You can easily do it around the thighs, you lift up and force your head into their body tipping them sideways and bringing them up off their feet. You can do it around the knees too, but basically with proper form you would be squatting them and driving sideways, so unless there is a drastic height difference you should be ok.
This knocks the air out of your lungs- If you're a mean fucker you stomp the guys face.
one trick is if you pull him down toward you . This will make him react by pulling straight up and back which will help you with less effort.
is there any web i could watch episode 9??
mma = mixed martial arts = all the martial arts if you mix them.
This is what dominated the ufc for a while. You do this then ground and pound, or pass the guard and submit. This, the guillotine choke, pretty much all you need lol.

but when can you give a double leg takedown?
There's a lot of different kinds of double leg takedowns. Some have a slam (mostly Greco Roman wrestlers like this) and some just get the person to the ground more smooth (More like a Jujitsu guy) =D
yeah give a enemy a hug with a TAKE DOWN POWA!
Ah, so now I know how to call it :P Sambo very frequently adopts moves from other systems that are considered effective, so you can expect to find some Judo, Aikido, and other such arts.
@PardonMySanity Once you have the Tate Shiho Gatame(front to chest) pin, you can easily slide to a Kaesa Gatame (side to chest)
@o0Guns0o. .... Lol I finished that book a while... A fucking amazing book... Now if someone wants to fight me I'll use that lol........ That book had so much emotion .....thanks for mentioning it ...I was thinking about that book then I google double leg takedown....you are the best bro ... Thanks again for mentioning it....
@ThePinkMan There's a reason most MMA fighters no longer employ the "Dutch knee" when an opponent shoots in for a takedown: Many fighters are savvy enough to drag a knee across the mat when shooting. This means the shooting fighter is "grounded" and any knees or kicks to the head are illegal. Better to sprawl out and then wait for the opponent to stand, then try to catch him with a knee in a Thai clinch on the way up.
Thats how it would be done in a wrestling match but that leaves you open to a guillotine
Its just like a rugby tackle! Start low and use your legs (bend knees) through back to shoulders. Drive upwards and set him down.
Someone is going Rampaaage!
Hi Kaperta12, the "*" is the PC keyboard representation for mathematics of multiply and the "^" raises a number to a power. Example: 4^2 or "four to the power of two" is equal to 8, or 2^4 equals 16. Hope that helps.
u mean I really can't watch these moves to fight UFC? what if i do it wearing a tapout shirt? will that help?
@jozaow456 It's physics. 1/2mv^2 is the formula for kinetic energy and mgh is the formula for potential energy.
further more i was just showing you how it is not so easy for your neck to "snap" if you do not have the correct leverage for it. and often times you won't have it.
do you like carrey your opnenat or its just due to gravety pleese tell me??
@espada9 There are thousands and thousands more examples of people stopping the takedown with a sprawl. A knee can work occasionally, but most of the time it just leaves you on one foot while you're being tackled to the floor. So in reality it's not the "perfect" time for a knee, rather it's a pretty inopportune time for the knee. Some techniques just have a higher chance of success than others. A knee in this case is more of a Hail Mary rather than a go-to move.
@OrcaEvergreen MMA Armbar is actually a judo / jui jitsu technique
@destroyer919 Thats if your wrestling, because when your only wrestling both guys are leaning forward more so u need to get lower. In mma you can bring your front knee down but it isnt necessary since the other guy is standing up right.
look up sprawl for counter. Another very good counter is a guillotine choke. A recent fight where this was used was the latest Bobby lashley fight against this one guy. He sprawled and got the guillotine choke and won in about 24 sec i think.
your can also cup his ankle with your hand on the side you push with and turn when you take him down so you face toward him pivot on the foot when your turn with him go flat footed and you might as well lay down on the mat
I use to wrestle in high school, so let me tell you what I learned. The best defense against a double leg take down is to grab your opponent's pants and give him the biggest wedgie you can. Don't let go until he lets go!
@JonTheProdogy lol good one
Wow, I find where Zangief Kid learn his move!
imma go ask rampage jackson, hes king of slams.
@luckynumber58 Dont worry it doesnt... they just put random high school physics formulas up there... the one they used was for kinetic energy.. they just re wrote it changing the variables for no reason at all
Search KZread for "Takedown Machine" to see this in ACTION!!!
@nerd4lyf123 They don't cover the entire technique. You are suppose to have your head raised while cutting the corner so your opponent can't get you with a front choke. I always fall on top of my opponents anyway and establish side control. Even when someone did grab my neck I was on top of them and they are holding on top my neck while I can punch them in the face till they let go.
@fdfsf you know mma stands for MIXED MARTIAL ARTS wich means that you use alot of different martial art and wrestling is a martial art. (some word could have been wrong spelled but, hey you understand)
How do i counter this
@BlackDahliaMurder214 Cuz in MMA you may not necessarily want to go down with him, also bringing them up and twisting them to 90 degrees gives you automatic side control when you land
u need to take into account the larger inertia that usually comes with the larger body mass (height). It does not necessary mean they are easier to take down. Especially if they are well trained and adopt a low stance.
Not when it takes a quarter of a second for your neck to snap.
ya it's my second year and unless your a total beast picking up guys that weigh your same weight like they're nothing. Tripping and off balancing will always work, where as picking up the guy might not.
Johnf85... If he puts his hand down he can also crack his wrist depending on the position.
No they're both called the double leg takedown but the technique in wrestling and mma can be different. In my MMA class, my trainer teaches me to use the knee down and slide technique as well but the lift is just a variation that can be used.
@Theyellowma Lol you forgot Rampage vs Arona , one of the biggest MMA slams ever, youtube it :p
Wasn't that also part of the Pankration episode?
@Theyellowma Another one - different situation, same outcome - is Matt Lindland vs. Falniko Vitale. Failed the takedown, falls back, hits his head, and lights out.
I was saying the same thing as I was watching this
I just noticed a this is left handed style
@GreenDayFan898989 haha so true, we did this for an hour straight then did it for the entire week in our spare time. No one gets hurt. We were taught to more of sweep them off the groudn rather than throw them off like they do in this video lol
this is the easiest and most effective thing you can do other than running away in a self defence situation.
we were doing wrestling in P.E and i did this to a kid and knocked the wind out of him haha i felt a KINDA bad.. but only a little bit lol
@Caine260 ya man but the main reason for this is to slam the person to cause damage what your doing is just putting the person on there back
how come when i get takedown with 3000pounds i dont feel injured?/
@mastermultitasker thats because ur lifting with ur back u need to get yourself underhim so ur almost vertically parrelel and lift with ur legs as u turn him the corner oppisite ur head .its the basic takedown for wrestling if u look up any wrestling video ull see it performed
you need to put your knee down when going into your double leg to get low
Good for short people! :D
"Just like dumping a 20 lb. bag of cement from a 9 foot ladder" "Just like dropping a bowling bowl from a house" "Just like getting swung at with a baseball bat at 60 mph" Lol at funny analogies.
lol i wonder if all the math actually makes sense with the variables or if its just for decoration
@luckynumber58 only the bit at the start makes sense, human weapon just want to seem smart
That Lashley fight was insane lol. He was ticked off cause the guy was yanking his chain about his prior career. It was a mistake haha
imagine bears knew mma....
the mathmatics dont take absorbtion into the equation. if you put your hand down before you land that drastically reduces the blow. its like the perfect move will deliver this force but we dont live in that walgreens commercial you know?
@luckynumber58 It's for decoration to make it look fancy LMFAO
@AdrainAttack3596 Notice I had said, "Lift and Torque", genius. You can always lift or push through in a double leg, therefore you need to twist the person off their base.........
I agree also. guess a lot of wrestlers out here
My friends head exploded :O... :D hehe
@fdfsf Think about it this way. Evolution is a biology term. Biology is a science. Therefore, evolution is a science term. So yes, punching is an MMA move because several martial arts incorporate it and these same martial arts are used in MMA.
Theres other double leg take downs(doulble leg trip) that dont rely on strength although they dont hurt half as much
oh like his mum? classic mum dissing joke, congratulations boy, uve achieved something today.
Greco Takedowns use less energy than shooting for the legs. Pretty much, every person I train with can stuff shots.
Yeah, back then I thought that Colligent wrestling was "Greco Roman" wrestling.
Im saying that larger mass will help the person gets more stability because of the increased inertia (resistance to motion). Harder to push down a 90kg guy then a 50 kg guy, u know what i mean? And im guessing that no matter how tall is a person, the centre of mass will still be somewhere around the abdominal area, so if u lower ur stance, u should gain sufficient stability.
so effectively it's a spear tackle?
DAMN c8 (enemy down!)
@BlackDahliaMurder214 Well thats also assuming you are on tatame, for a real fight slamming someone on concrete would do some serious damage
word
@xxthedroughtxx so you're spinal erectors aren't utilized in deadlift type movements?? Spinal erectors are one of the key muscles involved in your core and core strength. Poor core strength and conditioning leads to injury. Training these muscles properly with good form will not affect you in later life. Neglecting muscles like this whilst playing/doing MMA, rugby, american football and weighlifting etc, will lead to problems later in life. As will excercising these muscles with incorrect form
