    In the way that Cung Le (famous sanshou and MMA fighter) teaches it, you're meant to block it first with your forearm and then scoop the leg with your other hand. This being said, I think that the producers of 'Human Weapon' have gotten this technique wrong.

    @AceFoxhound sorry i haven't attended any martial arts classes, and i haven't had any experiences in fights except when fooling around with my friends. My impression of tai sabaki from what you tell me, is that you move ur body into the direction of his kicking leg. doesn't this hurt more? >

    The most easy way to surprise your opponent in such this situation - where he holds your kicking leg and pulls you towards him - is to simply jump and try to kick him with the other leg. His takedown will fail because you are already in the air and he is so concentrated on his own move and will be so surprised because you yourself gave up your safe stance that he is likely not going to block your kick. Try it its really effective.

    Out of every single taekwondo fight and sparring match I have been in, my kick has been caught by very few people that I can remember, and all of them were instructors. Not saying it can't happen, nor that this technique is invalid but it seems like catching a kick is extremely difficult, especially in the way they show here.

  • @Vishonov

    You can grap his head when while he's kicking your leg out and he fall with you, then just launch punches to his head and flip him. You can always try to rotate before he kicks and take him down instead. There are many ways to counter this move if you understand what you're doing.

    @SSgtJoker I've been doing martial arts for quite a few years. I did karate and I've been doing Jiu jitsu for I don't even know how long. But I learned this move in Karate but in a different way where sweep there leg from the inside. I've used it a lot in sparring matches and mixed martial art fights a lot. It's probably a good idea to use it if somebody tries kicking you in the ribs. You really learn to anticipate the kick. But I usually throw a punch a long with it.

    I made a counter to this sweep, by spinning in midair and catching his stable leg behind the knee with your free leg you can drop him on his ass. Your leg is already in his center of gravity and he's providing you with momentum. A well timed "Spin drop" and the rotation of your hips will bring the both of you down. Given the element of surprise you can line up an ankle lock. If this description wasn't completely clear then experiment and you'll get the idea...

  • @Anonim_Anonimovic
    @Anonim_Anonimovic13 жыл бұрын

    @Jaygenius Not necessarily... You can still use your arms to block AND grab his leg at the same time... also, if his attack is coming from your left, you can take half a step to the right and let the speed and power of the kick to lower, you can even move towards the attack and intercept it, because an attack in its beginning stage is much slower and weaker than at the later stages... in fact, the only way you will HAVE to take the blow is if you stand still. Intercept or let it pass.

  • @gakkerout

    I practice Baji and this is similiar to our takedowns. The difference being we start out in the closed stance and shift into an open stance by stepping into the kick. Essentially the kick hits you with the thigh, no power in it, and you just push him down on his ass. Baji stresses not to go down with him, ground grappling is good for the ring, not real fights. Especially when you are outnumbered. When performing this sweep you lose your balance too and risk falling down along with him.

    the point of these techniques is to do them fast so that the victim doesn't have time to react, u see it slow so that u understand the move, but in combat it's so fast u can't even think about punching the other guy

    @elCommentante just adding a little extra thought is all. i just think it is sometimes good look at things a bit differently, rather than except things as im told by a single source. we often use alot of terms and references without every knowing the meanings or origins. its good to question the accuracy of what we are allowing to become "our knowledge" before just saying roger that and closing the door. i may be a little off the topic but that was a similar point i was trying to make before.

    You are allowed to in my class, but I don't know about in professional fights, although they would be crazy to try to catch those kicks. But yes, we are told how to, though not in this way, we just do a block where you turn your front hand to the side to grab the kick quickly and pull up to set them off balance.

    @brenoakiy What I always do is jump, turning my waiste to the left or the right (depends what foot he has grabbed, so when he got my right foot, i turn to the right, and when he got my left foot, I turn to the left), while doing that, I use the foot which is free to kick the side of his head, then break and catch the my fall, and stand up quickly. -jump, turn waist -use foot to kick side of head -catch fall -stand up

    You have a point artemis but these videos weren't necessarily created for instruction. To safely catch this kick you have to deflect it with your forearm. After that you have to wrap up and follow through as shown in the video. It can only be done without damage if your bones are calcified and reinforced enough to withstand the kick, which is in essence like getting hit with a baseball bat. So you have to practice by striking objects harder than your bones. It also requires a fighter's reflexes.

    this takedown is very easy but its easy to counter aswell. you can counter by transfering your weight forward towards your opponent when he grabs your foot then grabbing him by the neck and holding on to him and if you get him by surprise u can just take him down by pushing his neck down and he will release your leg. but if he is prepared and you both go down thne you have to throw him up with your hips when on the ground and then mounting him...
