    I've been in alot of fights in my life and I to am a devoted practitioner of martial arts and military combat styles (hand-to-hand, firearms, tactics) and I agree, it's easy to say I'll catch his foot and all those things but people forget two basic rules of combat. 1. your opponent is unpredictable 2. action is faster than reaction everyone fights differently and it's hard to tell how somone is going to react to a situation.

    Yes, it is a standard round house kick. Although, this art is ancient so you can't simply call this a roundhouse. It is a Cambodian art with Cambodian names, not an English name. It means "cut the plate."

    You've got to remember, this isn't a beginning blow. A high kick is a great follow up to a liver strike, or a hard hook.

    The Hawaiian fighting style was Lua which means pit. which was portrayed in hula, to tell stories of there hunt or there battle they went through. But you're right martial arts was designed for defense, exercise, and even for entertainment such as capoiera, and hula. Glad to see my Hawaiian culture being studied by others.

    Yeah I find this to be much more effective after throwing many punches. The kick kind of comes from 'nowhere' and most people arent quick enough to react to it.

    These are finishing moves. After a few fast jabs and a well placed roundhouse kick, you have time to make a longreaching kick once your opponent is just barely standing. These are simply fast, effiecient ends to a match, instead of 50,000 punches to their face.

    Exactly, hellspawn133. Low targets the thigh/knee, mid targets the midsection just above the waste, and high targets the head. I can see why power13 thinks it's a roundhouse, but there's one fundamental difference: the Cup Jaran has no rotation of the hips. With the Roundhouse (the Muay Thai variant, at least) you rotate your hips while you kick and spin on the ball of your foot and that's what gives it its power, which is equal to a baseball bat.

    People have to realize that this show is simply showing the move, not how to use it practically in a fight. If you are learning how to fight from this videos, it IS a great help and base start. But there is specific ways to effectively land these moves.

    I haven't done Muay Thai but I've heard good things. Also, from a class I took recently, I TOTALLY agree with the first sentence, the excercices weren't bad but what they taught is so vague and doesn't help. Also the head instructor is full of himself, he has pictures of himself all over the dojo >:O

    this is just a haymaker for a roundhouse kick. What's nice is you can step really far out on an angle, close the gap and carry through the person with the kick so that the kick ends on the other side of the person.

    @Danielnoctis In Bokator, they teach you to "catch" a high kick - so to speak. One arm stops the kick from reaching your head while the other hand goes behind the opponents knee. You twist the leg and drop to the ground, slamming the opponent on his belly and opening him up for an almost instant knee-bar. If done correctly, the practitioner will receive minimal injury while the opponent will be put into a very bad position.

    @Nebulaterous I got many of these high kicks on the face when i started kick boxing after 2 years of boxing. After stepping back from an exchange (which i won almost every time) i d lower my defense feeling the distance was safe. but it wasn't! a foot usually came out of nowhere and landed on my face. Boom! so always keep your hands up haha

    Only use high attacks when the other opponent is already distracted by either a feint, or being off-balance. Between distance and speed, placing a reinforced block or dodging, or both is very easy and will result in the high kick leaving you quite vulnerable.

    I'm sorry, I'm not really good at fighting but it appears to me that putting your leg up that high and putting all of your balance on one leg in that position would be easy to counter. Like if they were to grab your leg and gain full control of you or if they push/trip you. Am I right on this?

  • @Smokie181
    @Smokie18115 жыл бұрын

    The Cup Jaarn is hard to perform with a locked leg because of the upper and lower body rotation needed to execute with the right energy and power. Generally when you have a leg raised (side split) the body is better anchored and balanced with a locked leg but will give you less upper and lower body rotation. Try to perform multiple high kicks with a locked leg and then try to bend that leg and do it. Then try to perform the Cup Jaarn with a straight and bent leg. Youll see what I mean.

    @speebyda No, it doesn't harden the bone. But repetitive trauma and muscular conditioning increase the support from skeletal muscles, deaden nerve endings to reduce pain, and some say increase bone density. The idea is that the stronger the muscles and tendons pulling on the bones, the denser the bones must become in order to compensate, which is why exercising the tibialis anterior, for example, helps prevent shin splints and fractures of the tibia. Others do say that microfractures in the bone
