"It's time for every step of CG portraiture to be explained - so that any Blender user can understand it."
~ Kent Trammell, Blender artist and the author of HUMAN
=====================================================
💡 What is HUMAN about?
Realistic hand-crafted CG portraiture is long overdue for demystification.
Sure, there are many Blender courses teaching a small part of the process...or summarizing everything in long, complex workflows that only experienced artists can understand.
HUMAN unpacks the full artistic journey from the default cube to a believable, photorealistic portrait of the human face. While at least an intermediate knowledge of Blender is ideal, Kent recorded the course with all Blender users in mind. Prerequisite courses are available on CG Cookie, or in the Blender Market course bundle.
HUMAN is the result of 2 years of Kent Trammell's work, using his artistry, his 17+ years of experience with computer graphics, as well as his singular ability to make advanced concepts accessible to every skill level.
Stream the entire course here: b3d.cgcookie.com/asI5Sk
💡 What is included in HUMAN?
The total runtime is over 25 hours, organized in 5 chapters with multiple step-by-step lessons.
The course also includes all relevant .blend files as well as anAtomic - an interactive 3d model of the human face with anatomically correct labelling.
💡HUMAN is made 100% with Blender
🚫 No zbrush, no substance, no 3rd party plugins
=====================================================
HUMAN will become part of the CG Cookie Course Library on November 25th (available to all active members) or for standalone purchase on the Blender Market that same day.
If you're interested in purchasing on the Blender Market, starting today through Nov 23rd we're offering a pre-order discount.

Just bought the course. Kinda new to blender, and my pro friend said I might be jumping into this too quickly. I really hope I can get rather good at blender with this + a little bit more. Since I got ideas that I wanna create, the part that fucks up most of it is 3D arts stuff.

I had a question. Would the techniques taught in this course be useful for imported Daz characters, as in sculpting & adding detail, and building skin shaders? I've been looking into buying the course on Blender Market, and thought it might be useful for my workflow with importing Daz figures, maybe by using the figure as a base, and using the techniques to up the realism level of the characters. In any case, this course looks very useful indeed.

Genius.
I wondering if there was course for blender to do vertex painting or something similar to polypainting, I like that this Human course comes bundled with fundamentals, custom skins are widely accessible, but I would like to do my skin. Do you guys offer anything like that? For reference of polypainting with zbrush theres a video by Hossein Diba who does his skin this way + photoshop. It's one way to escape the uncanny valley to hyperrealism
I’m stuck -chapter 3 when using pointiness node to get that 3rd map. Blender 4 doesn’t have that node. I tried using an emission node but no map was created. Does anyone have any tips for this?
better then everything I’ve made combined
After i make this can i use it for rigging and character animation??
My ultimate goal and dream for my career, is to be able to do this. I want to take the classes, but my biggest concern right now is getting a setup that will make doing this kind of work feasible. I would absolutely love any advice on whether I should build a pc, or invest in a Wacom. I know both options are expensive, so I this decision is important to me. What is going to get me the farthest as a graphic designer and 3D artist? I'm a single mom in my last year of university. I study graphic design and fine arts. Deciding on the right setup is crucial, as I am not likely to have the opportunity to purchase any other one for a long time. PS, thank you for taking the time to read this
Lovely, looking forward for this course, just curious whether the model is suitable for rigging in case? or will it just stay as a single frame portrait?

IS IT POSSIBLE TO ANIMATE IT AFTER ALL? OR I SHOULD DO RIGGING AND KEYSHAPES BEFORE APPLYING VELOCITY HAIRS, LASHES ETC? AND WINKS, HOW TO MAKE REALISTIC WINKS WITH WATER COVERING EYEBALL AND EYELIDS? WHO KNOWS?
FLIPANTE!!!
You say that it is good for animation but i found, that using object oriented textures can't be animated with bones. So rigging the eyes causes the geometry to move but not the textures. Is there a chapter that fixes this issue?
In which pc did you work this scene?

I made the course, but I have 1 question: How the render time is shorter in chapter 5? Until then it takes about 20 minutes, and in chapter 5 it takes only 5 minutes although the character is complete....
@khtrammell
Жыл бұрын
I skimmed a few lessons in Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 and they all ranged from 4-6 minutes. Can you point me to a specific example where a pre-chapter 5 render took 20 min? I seem to remember that being the case at one point, but can't remember which video exactly. My guess is that must have been when I render 2x resolution to see how everything held up.
Signing up for this is like putting you pc on death row
Imagine these models added to unrecord you know that realistic first person shooter that would be awsome
its frustrating, when the instructor jumps without explaining the steps. After retopology he starts to introduce the different modifiers and shows what they are doing, but the my display has not the same aperances, I cant move the mesh, because it sticks to the face, or or mirror and behaves different than his, and he does not explain really what the modyfiers actually do ... so I spend a few days trying to understand the these aspects from random places, but I still dont get what is happening :/
Yo when yall get good at this, I’ll be looking to hire people to create me some models wearing my jewelry.
Can you rig this character?
Gosh, I’d love to take this class but my artistic skills and Blender skills are both so basic…

The only reason I'm not getting this course because it doesn't show the main things which I'm looking for and it is about creating custom made skin alphas Maps from scratch
@khtrammell
2 жыл бұрын
I demonstrate how to _use_ the included skin alphas. I may still teach how to create them at some point...but it's debatable how important their creation is to portrait creation, right? Good skin alphas are widely available in 2021 and have been for years. The process of making them is nice (I'm glad I figured it out) but it's far from crucial to the process.
But does it Ble.... It does!

@khtrammell
2 жыл бұрын
@Pygmalion Fine details are going to be tough for lower-spec'd PCs no matter if sculpting or texture painting. To sculpt them requires many polygons and to texture them requires many pixels, both of which require significant PC resources. Pixels should be less so but honestly Blender might struggle more with painting 8K textures on my machine than sculpting 12 mil polygons... It's a little like gaming unfortunately: If we want to play the latest most cutting-edge games we have to have a PC that can handle it 😕
