I was a huge Pumpkins fan and saw Hum open up for them in 1998 on the Adore tour. Ended up enjoying Hum's set more, even though I only knew a couple songs. Adore was great and all, but wasn't a fan of that tour in particular... too much twinkley piano and the dual drummers that just sounded off. So, for me, Hum stole the show... I wished they had a longer set.

I never ever heard a song on the radio in the 90’s not even stars, never heard that till around 10 years ago when my then fiancée was using aol music on his computer as a pandora-type thing just to get ready in the morning and stuff. My husband had cable all his life (I didn’t till around 1999) and watched mtv all the time and never saw them either. How?? This stuff is amazing!!!! It should have been HUGE!! I was sitting in Grandpas recliner watching 120mins late one night eating goldfish. Stars came on and I just sat there asking who the fuck is this. I always hear a song and forget the name and band before buying it. Not this time. I wrote down HUM and Stars. Got to Hastings as fast as I could next few days and bought You'd Prefer An Astronaut. Brought that CD back to Oklahoma with me and it instantly created dozens of HUM fans when they heard it.

It was early 90's I was 12 years old. HMV used to have CD's you could listen to in their stores. I put-on a set of their headphones and HUM's "I Hate It Too" was the first song that came on. I was HOOKED! HUM is and will always be my favourite band, I own every album and EP they've ever produced. It was I believe 1998 my brother and I had scored tickets to see them play in Toronto, it would be my first time getting to see them live. I was freaking out! They were doing a cross Canada tour if I'm not mistaken. I ended up getting sick and couldn't go to the show. They then were in a car accident following that show, damaged their tour van, and that was it. They never toured in Canada again and I never got to see them. I really wish that one day they would release new music.

I love how endless music discovery is, especially when we’re talking about past decades. For me, my introduction to the 90s was obviously through popular groups like Nirvana, RHCP, and the like. And then, you really dig deep into the other stuff going on from that era-Hum, Failure, anything indie (MBV, Pavement)…God, music is an endless, beautiful scavenger hunt (as I always say).

I heard HUM on MTV, and on the Radio back in 1995, BUT only 'Stars'. Nothing else was played, so I took them for one-it wonders, and never bothered to research them. Then just a few years ago, after getting tired of listening to the same ridiculously small amount of good (actual ROCK) bands that are still around in this century, I went back to the other decades to give other bands a second chance, or in some cases - a first chance, and I explored some of those bands catalogs. HUM was one such band I discovered, or rediscovered, and was blown away with what I found - or heard. How ever could such a band as this get airplay on only one song? It's a crime. In the 1990's, and what was the last great decade of ROCK (before Idol TV Pop clones, Disney Divas, and cRAP took over almost completely) these guys should've been huge.
