@spacebullseye The pilot episode is the best Lou ever looked in his Hulk make up. His Mr Olympia physique, the prosthetic teeth and cranium all made the Hulk look his most primative and beastial.

Hi, the reason Kenneth Johnson named him David Banner is because Marvel Comics wouldn't allow Universal to recreate the exact story. They grabbed enough money for the permissions but insisted it was only based on the original and not the same. hope that helps :)

Ted Cassidy did the narration in the main titles as well as The Hulk's roar -Lurch of course from the Addams Family unfortunately he died early on so the Hulk's roar changed as the series carried on. He was also the voice of Godzilla in the Hanna Barbera cartoon series.

BTW, Marc Ruffalo (the new Banner actor) did the mo-cap for Hulk in Avengers, so when Hulk moves, it's actually Ruffalo in that black suit, and they simply put Hulk's 3D textures over his movements. So there, they actually did use someone, and it's the actor himself.

Also cool was that Ted Cassidy (Lurch from the Addams Family) narrated the show's title opening. Ted also provided the "roar" and grunt sounds of the Hulk, not Lou Ferrigno.

@MidnightsFire2099 The producers named him "David" as in reference to "David & Goliath". One of Stan Lee's nickname for Hulk is "The Green Goliath". However, the producers named him David, to avoid Batman campiness, with the comics. It wasn't until the reunion movies, the series acknowledged other "Marvel" heros. Some die hard fans, don't accept the reunion series as canon though. They feel they took place in a "seperate universe".

Today was my 2nd time watching the Avengers and it is my favourite marvel movie ive seen and your right the fight scene with the Hulk and Thor was a lot better than the Hulk vs Thor from the hulk returns tv movie from the 80s i loved the tv series of the hulk i have them all on dvd and it was a lot better than the 3 tv movies of the hulk

The one with them all with Stan Lee was when they all came back together years later after the series finshed they did 3 reunion movies this was the movie set of The incredible Hulk Returns with Thor in it

dave was the name of the directors son. the directors wanted to try and stay way from the comic book stories as much as he could(why?). He even wanted to use a red hulk but at that point stan lee said HELL NO.

As far as I'm concerned, Lou Ferrigno is & ALWAYS will be the one & only Incredible Hulk! Watching the series as a kid, Lou made the Hulk much more believable than the new movies, & I couldn't wait for the late, great, & still much missed Bill Bixby, to do the thing with the eyes, which always signalled the start of the "Hulk Out"!

Les Caine they ditched the eyes concept in the avengers movies. like hulks eyes were still brown when he was changing and I was Like: DONT YOU PEOPLE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE HULK?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you. The Incredible Hulk was one of my favorite t.v. programs when I was a little girl. I use to watch it every week

Dont make me angry...you wouldnt like me when I,m angry.... We couldn,t wait for the eyes to turn weird,it always seemed to take too long! Us kids always wondered where he got his new sets of clothes after he ripped them apart. Everytime he went hitchhiking towards new adventures he wore brandnew clothes.(?) And the final melody was so melancholic.........such a sad person,our Dr.David Banner......

Actually his name was 'Robert Bruce Banner', don't know where the TV show got 'David' from.

Sure, he's all CGI now and doesn't look as realistic (he still looked nice in Avengers) as a green bodybuilder, but at least he now looks like Hulk. Not a single human being, no matter how tall, could portray Hulk correctly anyway. Watch the Avengers, and pay attention to every fight scene with Hulk in it. There's one scene where he beats the crap out of Loki in a funny way. It just wouldn't be the same with a green bodybuilder.

I've heard many times from Ken Johnson himself that the main reason was to distance the series from the comics and not playing the alliteration cliche comic book character name, like Clark Kent, Peter Parker or Lex Luthor.

Bill Bixby was the first choice for David Banner, no one else could have done the role. I prefer the TV series then the movies.

Apparently, Kenneth Johnson, the Hulk series creator, didn't like comic book names like Bruce Banner, Peter Parker, Matt Murdoch and Clark Kent which is partly why he changed his name to David.

Peter Parker, Lois Lane). According to Lou Ferrigno, the name was changed because CBS thought the name Bruce sounded "too gay-ish." Kenneth Johnson also says that naming him David was a way to honor his own son David.

@Thebryan6145 ....I saw an interview with Stan Lee, and he said he didnt care for Bruce, it sounded a little on the, not so manly side. He wanted to keep "bruce" in there, but went with David in the Series. And yes Theo, now one else would have done a better job than Bill Bixby. I am glad they went with Lou instead of the guy from the James bond movies.....

I think Dr. Banner should have been more concerned about the effects of 'hulking out' in public and releasing massive doses of gamma radiation. Just look at him start glowing green when he changes, you know that's not going to turn out well for little Ricky, who later on probably turned into The Inedible Bulk or something..
