Hula Basics Hela and Uwehe
Ойын-сауық
Aloha here are 2 more hula basics! The hela and uwehe. Be sure to place your foot flat on the helas when extended. Also on uwehe be sure to practice sitting low and controlling any bouncing. This will help your hips to naturally move side to side and create a beautiful flow when wearing your Pa'u skirt. Thanks for watching! Mahalo nui! Aloha!

Rebecca Bryant this is so great to hear! Hula is a great workout! There are many different styles of teaching so I am thankful that you found this style beneficial! Thanks for reaching out!
ha ha ha ha ha my cosh it is so challenging, but I am having fun, surely my legs, thighs are burning. Thank you so much for helping and great teacher you are. yes more and more practice will be perfect soon, Cheers
Thank you for these videos were I can actually see what your legs are doing as you do the steps. Love your putting it all together in a dance to music at the end.
Great job!! Mahalo!!
Very nice teaching
You are a very good instructor.
Now I get it, I wasn't sure how to keep from bouncing when doing the Uwele. I see you almost get on your tip toes but by keeping your knees bent your hips remain low and that is pure genious, and I know what a workout for the legs it can be. I tried it several time without previous knowledge and had to stop often while learning at home.
This is helping me so much with my uwehe but I think I still might be hopeless. I can do lele uwehe, but uwehe on its own gives me so many problems :( I moved away from Hawai’i as a small child and am trying to reconnect with my roots via hula. All of your tutorials are so helpful in reminding me of all the little things! Mahalo nui 🙏🏽

It hurts my lower back, I guess that's because I'm stiff and it's a new movement for me?

Loving the basics. How do I find the full dance? We have a sister trip to Honolulu in a couple weeks. We plan to make the most of the luau!!

Charlene Mowatt hi! So happy to hear that you are enjoying the hula videos. I’m totally over due for a new video. Is there a particular song you want to learn? Or just a short routine in hula or Tahitian? Luau’s usually have audience participation in the Tahitian segment. I can put together a short routine and have it out by Wednesday. Let me know what you think!

Abby Quiet you could do that for us? A short routine would be great in the easiest style possible. 4 if us are over 60 and each have some form of arthritis. Teach us with bent knees and maybe the two younger sisters can handle it. I am going to make my best effort to join them. I will be practicing the basics until I hear back from you. Thanks so much

Charlene Mowatt Hi Charlene I was thinking I would make a video on how to do audience participation but it’s kind of impossible because every luau has a different style. The shortest music I could find is a Tahitian beat, and I can make a small routine to it. It is about 1 min long. Would you like that?

Abby Quiet yes!! We have been learning the small sets and they are challenging enough. We can repeat our 1 minute set if we have the energy. Love it!!
