Huina 1550 ESC Upgrade Part 2

Ойын-сауық

PART TWO:
Here I go over the wiring and some more of the components used for the build. I also regreased the poor old servos and upgraded the wire to some 18awg silicone to replace the questionable old wiring.
Stay tuned to see PART THREE when I finish the build with some more custom 3D printed parts!!

    Would you be so kind as to share the way that you programmed it? The speed controllers appear to work great with the joysticks, but how are you switching functions?

  • @scoutworks

    Each function has it's own channel and the remote has plenty more switches that channels, so I get to choose which one does what. For the movement of the arm, I use the main sticks on the controller and for the tracks, I use the rotating dials on the shoulders of the remote. The lights and auxillary fan are run off of a few of the toggle switches. After all that, I still have room for two more functions if I decide to add them in the future, as the radio is capable of up to 10 channels.

    Thanks for the video, am just doing exact same thing on my machine. Was curious though, do you need an ESC on light circuit? Also do you have limit switches? My 580 has stock ones built in and kind of have a plan to incorporate them with diodes and small relays but not sure if worth the effort.

    I wouldn't use an ESC on the lights circuit. I used some electronic switches I found on banggood, but amazon and others have the same ones that would be much easier to get. For the limit switches, I'm not sure how they would work with the ESC changeovers as my machine never came with them, so I don't have them. Things get interesting if you run the arm to the extent of it's range of motion, but nothing has broken from it yet.

    So I’m curious to know.. I know you jumped the input power positive and negative but the output voltage is connected to the motors? You didn’t show that part or talk about it I’m assuming yes but you did a great job showing everything you did

    Each motor requires it's own closed circuit with the ESC, so each motor received it's own + and - from its dedicated ESC output.

    Can you explain more about why you removed all but one of the red servo wires what's the purpose of the one left in

  • @scoutworks

    @scoutworks

    3 жыл бұрын

    These ESC's have what is called a "Switching BEC [Battery Eliminator Circuit]" built in to them to power the rest of the RC system in a typical application. The red wire supplies 5V positive to the system from the batteries power. The problem with leaving them all in together is that they fight against one another and cause problems that can glitch the system, or burn it out. By removing all but one of the red wires, there is no chance of causing these problems, and because the only part of this system that requires power from the ESC is the receiver, there is no need for massive amounts of current. I've got a ferw other mods on the go for this excavator and I'll addeess this question a little better in the next video, once I have a few more kinks ironed out.

    Hi mate, great vid, I just subbed. I have a question, I don't know if you have ever operated an excavator, but I'm after changing my controls, to mimic the same operation as the joysticks in a real excavator. Is this possible keeping the same controller and just re-soldering the wires inside to the required correct points? Thanks

  • @scoutworks

    @scoutworks

    3 жыл бұрын

    Great questions! No, I haven't had the opportunity to run a full sized excavator, only skidsteers, but yes, depending on which controller you have, you can definitely change the controls to CAT or Deere, depending on your preference (I run CAT on mine). With an aftermarket remote like the cheapy FlySky that I use, it's as simple as plugging in the ESC to a different port on the receiver. With some of the Huina remotes, you can just plug your motor wires into the different ports on the board, but with the clicky remotes, the button layout just makes that impossible.
