fry and laurie were a double act going waaay back. they've got a lot of good material. the debate you're referring to was Peterson and fry against a racist black guy and a sexist woman, supposedly debating free speech. Peterson got wound up by the race-baiting and Stephen was the only one keeping the debate on topic

I love Stephen Fry. Such an interesting guy. He's so talented at so many things. Fry and Laurie are best friends, I think.

If you like Hugh I'm sure you will like the Black Adder conedy series also starring Rowan Atkinson

He is generally quite a clever guy. Advocate. He is also gay, atheist, and bipolar, and has made his voice heard about all those groups in the past. Sort of a comic "headmaster figure", which made him perfect for hosting the first 13 seasons of "QI", a british TV show which is a greatly recommended.

first saw him as Horace or Jasper in the live action 101 Dalmations.

What's amazing about Hugh, is how effortlessly (it seems) he portrays an American smart doctor, yet in BlackAdder hes the bumbling Brit! And imagine, the str8 man is Rowan Atkinson! (sir Bean hehe)

Stephan is a cool fellow if you want to understand him a little better watch his biography on( who do you think you are) it's a real eye opener.

The debate you're thinking of was the Munk Debate, entitled "Political correctness, a force for good?".

Thanks for the title - I couldn't remember the exact one.

You are so right about free speech Cyn. Maintaining free speech is all about people in power being unable to oppress and manipulate the people without power. Free speech is the only power the people have to hold others accountable. It's not about allowing hate speech, and its very subjective what that entails, but it's about fighting tyranny. So many youngsters these days don't realise this and are far too willing to give up their rights to people and groups that have manipulating them into seeing things from a certain angle.

Now that you mention it, I hadn't thought of it that way; I hope you are right. No, it's not easy for sure. I am dreading when the time comes and keep hoping she will just pass away peacefully in her sleep. I will miss her so much. 😢
