Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg On "Florence Foster Jenkins" | BUILD Series

Ойын-сауық

Join Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg as they discuss their new film, "Florence Foster Jenkins." In the 1940s, New York socialite Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep) dreams of becoming a great opera singer. Unfortunately, her ambition far exceeds her talent. The voice Florence hears in her head is beautiful, but to everyone else it is quite lousy. Her husband St. Clair (Grant) goes to extreme lengths to make sure his wife never finds out how awful she truly is. When Florence announces her plans for a concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair soon realizes that he's facing his greatest challenge yet.

Just wow. How sad that this unprofessional, livid, miserable, and condescending woman gets an opportunity to meet Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg, gets to interview and discuss a fantastic film, and works & lives in NYC! There's so much unfairness in life!! Sigh... I do love the interaction between Hugh and Simon and their subtle humor in their responses and comments as if they're about the film or the question but indirectly mocking the hostess such as in answering her question "what was the most enjoyable parts of the the shoot for both of you?", and Hugh looks at Simon, who had his lips pressed hard, and says, "I can't remember enjoying anything," and Simon chuckles and says, "misery"! :P

I agree, Simon and Hugh did a wonderful and "intriguing" job keeping it together with such an "abysmal" host. They are hilarious in other interviews. Too bad there wasn't the breathing space to be that way here. I couldn't watch the whole interview even though I love them. They are amazing actors. Hugh's honest look into himself during this interview and others is refreshing. Wish he did more work. I can't wait to see them in other roles. I loved the movie. One of my all time favorites. Lol funny and uplifting. Bravo.

Have never heard of or viewed this interviewer before. Found several of her questions kind of weird, and her being so flippant and sardonic -- esp. with Hugh Grant -- made me very uncomfortable. It sure does appear that most of the people commenting on this thread are pretty much in agreement with that.

What an incredibly ignorant interviewer completely ignoring the responses of her guests and giving opinion on things she obviously knows nothing about. This is an incredibly sensitive film about a woman yes with somewhat overflown aspirations but an incredible supporter of music of the time. Also a woman who obviously overcame some major physical disabilities. She ignored Hugh Grants response to what Hacked Off is about and when he said it was nothing like his characters buying off the press she was terribly rude disagreeing with him about something he knows a great deal about and she knows nothing about apparently. Hugh Grant has done a lot of good things with the Hacked Off campaign. 0/5 interviewer for not putting your guests at ease and arguing with or dismissing the answers given by them. Now I am hacked off.

Although a bad singer, Florence Foster Jenkins had a lot of love and was very generous. The interviewer here is crude and cruel. I was really surprised at Simon Helberg who says that he was lucky his ears were never "tainted" by Florence's "shrill flailing" until this movie. Well, I don't think he was very well known till this movie. I mean, they don't have to be cruel. I thought Florence's singing was highly entertaining, amusing & unique, but they are showing pure contempt for her.

when the host ask them if they think Florence Could be possible today, who knows if she would fit today's Classical music scene, music lovers are not demanding as before, new generations are more about the looks and the celebrity factor, in Pop Music and other genres theres a lot of singers that are succesful because all of the money their family or their record companies invest on them, a lot of of the top 10 singers are deaf tone or doesn´t hit their notes at all(britney spears, katy perry, rihanna, taylor swift and so on).

Surprised that Aol have put their name to this technically woeful effort. With the three particpants having to hold their mikes, it's no wonder nobody could relax into conversation. The sound department was clearly under-resourced (The two blasts of extraneous music up front did not help). The tendency of hand-mikes to "pop" was a constant distraction. The setting was pretty awful, and to give the particpants three obviously uncomfortable and precarious high chairs did not help. If they could afford 4 manned cameras, tracking shots etc, why stint on the rest? I felt a bit sorry for the interviewer who did not stand much of a chance under such circumstances, and whose inexperience was cruelly exposed as a result.

It’s miserable to watch this interview. For one the host would not admit her opinions were ever wrong. Two she was way too judgmental as an interviewer. I think it’s wonderful that the society is more able to see that it’s important women have voices and opinion of their own; however in my opinion if you are an interviewer then your number one priority on the job is to help your guests to express their insights on the subjects of discussion, but not forcing your thoughts on your guests’ answer to create awkward atmosphere or dead silence. Especially this is not a political/current news interview.

I think we are so used to interviewers are starstruck and fawn over film stars that the interviewer seems flat and uninspired. At least she wasn't doing that. As actors who live off praise they are not used to an interviewer who really isn't into them, it throws them off.

I felt bad for Simon & Hugh--thinking of how I''ve occasionally heard actors acknowledge how grueling/draining these publicity interviews/jaunts can be w/repetitious questions, etc--but imo: this interviewer seemed arrogant & antagonistic toward the movie & the actors, especially to Hugh. I think a big mistake an interviewer can make is to TELL the actor who they are & "must" feel--to ask a question that is meant to shore up the interviewer's view/opinion vs desire for actor's OWN truth. Also, to draw inferences from the project--let the actor initiate that/do so themselves---otherwise, imo: you've over-stepped a personal boundary & gone into sphere of believing the actor is public/fan/interviewer's property. As this was yrs ago--I'm hoping someone helped this woman do better.

I really liked the host. She is not in love with either guy, and she asked smart questions. I loved the answer about the abstract that Helberg gave. Think about it, Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky had people LEAVE because of dissonance. Jenkins did it with her voice. The people who sing on the mark sound so much better because of that. Florence paid so many people to be creative, as well as giving free seats to people at Carnegie Hall. She gave the gift of dissonance not unlike Stravinsky or Tchaikovsky.

Suit yourself, as my grandmother would say. She didn't act unnaturally in love with the guys and she joked with them and they got it. She made them shine. If she had been so terrible the guys would have stunk and they didn't.
