Huge Tree Almost Falls on Beverly Hills Mansion

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Huge Tree Almost Falls on Beverly Hills Mansion. Back again with yet another Beverly Hills mansion huge recovery! This time it was more on the preventative side, where a massive 85,000lb was uprooted. By a miracle, there was another huge tree right in front of that it landed on, instead of completely going over. Had it fully gone over, the recovery would have been a nightmare and a job for an actual huge crane.
The tree was located right between two Beverly Hills mansions. One being around 8 million, and the other one 13 million. We were called by the crane company, who couldn't bring a crane big enough to handle the cutting due to the small streets and area. So they called Pepe's Tow, and we dispatched Alex in Big Flipper, our 75ton rotator.
The goal was to cut the tree down in sections, but needed to be held and supported to prevent it from falling over while the arborist does the cutting. Big Flipper's tag axle raises up to allow excellent turning in tight areas which made getting to the scene easy. Being a 75ton rotator also came in handy here, even though we weren't lifting the tree off the ground, having that brute strength to hold the tree made the job very safe.
The job wasn't too complicated, just very very long. Alex was on scene for hours, but was up to the task to make sure everyone went home safe. The other crane on scene was a 40ton, but it was a true crane that extends out over 100 feet. Once all was said and done, all that remained was a small stump. Our streak of tree jobs continues! What did you guys think of this job?

This is a Pepe's exclusive right here, you don't get to see this kind of job on every tow/recovery channel! I absolutely loved this video man. Alex did a great job holding the tree with Big Flipper, Hulio the crane operator did a great job hoisting the pieces, and the arborist in the red helmet did a great job being a spider monkey like a pro, sawing them pieces with style. But that one cut man, that scared me when the trunk piece rebound on the two guys up there, scary. Great drone shots, great communication with the crew, respect all around, and excellent professionalism.

I was laughing so hard when you said the tree is a "Widow Maker". Like a peach, pear and window maker. So in Catalina Island they imported a lot of Eucalyptus trees from Australia, and their strong roots are to help stabilize the roads cut into the side of a mountain. This looks like a 100 year old Eucalyptus tree. Any tree can become a widow maker. What happens is the wind can break off a limb, and then it gets stuck in the upper limbs. Then when the wind is just right, the branch can fall down on someone, making their wife a widow. This tree is uprooted, and can make the whole family a widow! LOL. Good think they noticed the tree falling, before it crushed anything below it. It's a great thing that the Eucalyptus has very strong roots! The guy cutting down that tree, he needs to have two saws! The blades can quickly get dull, with all of the sap from a healthy tree. Each cut is about 3 or 4 square feet, so much more than cutting up a dozen 9" diameter logs. The tree section taken down at 54 minutes into this video, I am happy you found out the weight is 7,000 pounds! Of course getting closer to the base of the tree, a 7 foot long section is going to be heavier. Many people do not understand that the 40 ton crane is near it's capacity when taking down a "Unknown" but 7,000 to 9,000 pound tree section. It is so far from the center line of the crane pivot point. Great video! I am very happy you skipped through the right amount of the boring parts! And kept in a lot of the parts that are interesting.

Wesley Pulkkka, Actually they are pretty safe. The guy in the tree is hanging from the 40 ton crane, and they strap on the top of the tree to that crane, then they start to saw off the top of the tree. They have a weight sensor, and are trying to take down 7,000 to 10,000 pound sections of the tree at one time. I know someone who was a tree topper in the forests of Northern California. He would climb a tall tree, and cut off the top 30 feet or so, strapped to the top of the tree he is cutting. Then the tree would potentially start to swing side to side for about 45 seconds. What a ride that is!

Most residents live in the area of Beverly Hills known as "The Flats." The Flats are relatively, well, flat, and they slope away from the foothills of the Santa Monica mountains. That used to be an agricultural area, with just small roads in and out, and like most such, they generally started out as trails, following the lay of the land and the path of least resistance. When they began to settle in that area and it turned to housing, the construction equipment and the trucks to move dirt, rock, and gravel in and out of the area to build up the roads was relatively small, compared to our own time and the massive equipment they have in this day and age. A lot of those roads are still so narrow that a couple of Model As would have to be careful passing one another. Even where roads are wider, there is the matter of parking and all that. It would be a logistical nightmare to get permits and to clear roads and all that, like Josh says. Then, there are all the money elite who are all "you can't tell me what to do!" Different rules for the rich, famous, and connected than there are for the rest of us.

I feel in life we should all be men and women of integrity. Doesn't take much to do that. Just say what you're go do and do what you said. That however is extremely difficult for much of the competition in our area so in the end, they become our best source of advertising.

Congratulations! It was nice to see people commenting on Bruce Wilson’s channel that you guys were a go to for learning to operate his new to him Rotator in Tennessee. Your channel has really upped the game on the video quality. Nice to see others helping you with the content. The extra perspective from other operators on the scene really brings the videos to life. The narrative on this one is excellent. All the questions add to entertainment and education. Way to go team! ❤

Bigger isn't always the best. Sometimes it takes a smaller truck or equipment to get the job done. Also it may take two or three trucks to do a job that a big piece of equipment can't get to to do the job. So these companies that complain about getting a big bill its worth it in my eyes to get the job done and done well. I like watching your videos because I learn things I didn't know and love how you take care of the trucks that flip over.

A widow maker (at least around here in Nova Scotia) is a tree that has fallen over and is hung up into another tree. This is a very dangerous situation, things can go wrong very quickly, hence the term widow maker.

Bill, We also consider the broken limbs that are caught in the top of the tree, held only by other limbs to be widow makers. They might only weigh about 50 to 100 pounds, but if they land just right on you, they will hurt.

We have a slogan here at Pepe's "We will tow it, lift it, push it, pull it, yank it, or drag it, but no job gets left behind." Our thought process is that another driver just like ours with another truck just like ours is gonna respond and try to tackle it as well so why pass it on. Besides, the real BIG jobs are routed our way anyway. Most of our competitors accept the call then call a 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th company to help them complete the task at hand. Now that's time consuming and extremely expensive ! Van Lingen Towing out of Torrance , CA has a large fleet of heavy trucks as well and give us a hard run for our money. They are extremely knowledgeable and efficient. We have a lot of respect for them.

Typically noise ordinance cutoff is around 11PM in California, where you can't exceed 55DB. Since it was only after 7PM, they were well within the law. But the guy in the beamer though, we didn't get to see the conversation, but we both know that there are a lot of entitled rich people, especially in Beverly Hills, so I am sure the Beamer driver was pissed that he couldn't get through. lol
