I use a cheap Chinese proskit cutters. The point is that they are designed for electronics and flat, so they cut really close to the board.

That first transistor you cut off may contain gold inside even if there is none on the bottom or on the little side tab. You should at least cut one open to check.

Sure! Sometimes the wiring is gold and inside are gold plated! I collect them and check on big batches when kilogram or more reached.
Muy bien.

Hi, I know one type from Soviet Union k52 series that have palladium. They should be marked wit ‘C’ after the number. Like k52-2C.
Awesome infos! Just a question, how you know which capacitors contain palladium? I’m looking everywhere but I can’t find info. Every blue/brown cap I found have palladium?
@escrapchannel
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, not every brown or blue capacitor has palladium. These have mark “bc” “bo” and we’re made in Bulgaria. In general I cut capacitors in 2 parts and look at the MLCC inside. In general being non-magnetic is a good indicator. Some magnetic have palladium, too. So, break and collect all capacitors that have mlcc inside. If not palladium - you will get at least silver.

@Dumitru Bojan MLCCs have palladium, but it is an endless discussion if magnetic or non magnetic or both have palladium. From my experience palladium in no magnetic is significantly more in non magnetic MLCCs, but I find some in magnetic too. Very small amount. Here some people say that it comes from now well separated nonmagnetic MLCCs, some say that there is a palladium in magnetic. I never did detail analysis.
As the amount of palladium decreased over time, did the outer color remain the same?

How do you isolate these metals so when you go to sell them? or you just sell cut off parts?

Hi, I accumulate capacitors until I have 1 kg of a kind and process them. I remove the coating in DMSO, then I remove the solder and remaining capacitor cores I grind before dissolving metals in nitric acid hot. From the solution I recover silver and palladium.

Hi, if you refer to Soviet Union capacitors, there are super expensive ones full of palladium and platinum. Ordinary MLCCs mix are far away from this content. I am from Bulgaria.
Are newer boards still worth stripping down for precious metals? Like the cheap Chinese e-junk?
@escrapchannel
Жыл бұрын
Hi, the only high gold content element on the new boards are BGA ICs. Some boards in telecom equipment have more than 10 BGAs so I depopulate such and get gold. For motherboards and peripheral cards etc better sell. To process and get real profit you need a factory.
Where do you buy those? Were can I find them?
@escrapchannel
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I check online auctions for such boards. Those I found on a local auction.
So good you reply to everyone.. I didn't understand if you made profit or did you sell as is? Or have to process ?? And what was your profit roughly?? It's sells by gram not kilo also???
@escrapchannel
3 жыл бұрын
Hi, it takes 3 hours from the pile of devices to depopulated elements. So, in all cases if you don’t process ICs and MLCCs by yourself - sell boards. Takes 1-2 min to take the board from one device and is cost affective. If you decide to depopulate valuable elements you severely downgrade boards but you get 40 - 50 USD in gold and palladium.

Hi, there are at least two companies in my city buying precious metals including palladium. So, I sell when price is good. Some companies buy capacitors but melted pure palladium price is better than row material price, so I prefer to process it and sell the metal.

@@escrapchannel places I've gone tell me I need an Assay done... Telling me I have to go through a jeweler to have the palladium sent to a refinery, processed, valued, then they will make me an offer on it. @@andreamichelle8383 I live in east Europe and here you can sell 10 grams of capacitors or half gram of palladium for example. If you have quantity you can negotiate better price but there is no lower limit. Usually buyer is doing analysis and it can be done to both types of material. I think you should search for the right buyer in your country.
