Man, I was excited to see these compact portable camping setups. I get the idea of a lighter weight to not have to lug around a heavier set up. But the non stick coating on an aluminum griddle and plastic utensils were a no go. Gotta keep lugging around the regular griddle for now I guess. Hoping for improvements on this idea in the future. Still love my Blackstones though.

@@skidoomxz550x Fair enough. I think many are disappointed, myself included, it is an aluminum cooking surface. Currently on the Blackstone website from an October 31, 2022 article, "All Blackstone gas griddles come with an unseasoned flat-top grill surface made of cold-rolled steel. Steel is an optimal surface for cooking on because it’s heavy-duty, it conducts heat well, and when seasoned properly, it provides an almost non-stick surface. Seasoning your griddle provides a hardened surface like a shell that protects the griddle over time." I guess Blackstone needs to update their website as not ALL Blackstones have a steel cooking surface. I recently found out the Blackstone electric griddles have a non-stick aluminum cook surface.

It's hallow plastic and mine broke just lifting up the grill. Debating whether to keep and try to find a fix (metal to replace it) or return it as I can see this being a frequent issue as it's a substandard design at a stress point. I bought one immediately, so took it home and opened it. The lid was missing the screw/nut holding the lid so it would just fall open, we returned it. Got another one. Second one had a piece of metal just fall off, no idea where it went, on top of the non stick surface scratched just moving a piece of cardboard on it. Not all the way through the coating but you could clearly see where I placed one of the pieces on it while I moved things around. I also picked up the folding griddle press which as soon as we washed it another screw/nut fell off of it. I also wanted to add how heavy it was, I might as well just get the 17" regular steel one. It's a great idea and we really wanted to use it for camping but the quality control unfortunately broke our spirit. Maybe once they fix this and improve on the non stick coating to be a little more durable we will give it another try.

Both camping griddles are brilliant. Only problem is the aluminium griddles with nonstick. I get it is to save weight and would be really easy to clean. But just like all nonstick the coating eventually fails and food will stick and it will be a pain to clean and wear to a point where it needs to be replaced. It just depends on how careful you are, how high temperature you use and how often you use it.

Who is bringing a griddle along that is thinking about weight savings? This is 100% because Blackstone is saving money using a cheap nonstick coating on aluminum and passing it off as "weight savings".

I had a Blackstone about 4 yrs ago and only cooked about 4 meals on it before the coating started peeling off the griddle. Into the trash it went. After watching this video I found out that you aren't supposed to use metal on it. Maybe that was my problem. I don't remember the directions saying anything about that. The little camp unit with a side burner is kinda nice for solo camping.

It’s lighter, heats up faster, does not rust and generally easier to clean up. Yes, I also prefer cast iron but for people that cook on it once or twice a month it’s great. For tailgating it’s perfect! So, maybe they missed for the hardcore cast iron cookers, but it has its market.

Keep in mind. It is coated with ceramic titanium which is pretty much the most durable coating available. You need to use the plastic utensils, obviously. I've used it quite a bit over the past 3 months. It is the fastest-heating and hottest-burning griddle that Blackstone currently makes. It gets up close to 600 degrees in under five minutes and cools down very quickly. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

However, while picking it up to put in the storage unit of the travel trailer the handle came loose on the left side. Fortunately my left arm kept me from dropping it. The left handle bracket was loose from the factory. In order to tighten I will have to practically disassemble the burners and the cover plate. Not cool.

If you just want to use a griddle or a burner and not both at the same time, get you a Lodge cast iron griddle. I have one that fits on my Eureka camp stove really well. Doing this helps me save space. If I need a burner (pot) and a griddle (pan), I just use my Lodge cast iron skillet on half the stove and a pot on the other. The griddle covers the entire (both burners) of the stove.

Couple of notes: first, for RV/camper folks looking for a low-pressure compatible stove, this is the bees knees! The low-pressure quick connect adapters for the 17/22 griddles also work with this! Second, I can confirm that the quality control is a little dodgy. Mine was missing a 4mm nut on one of the latches, and had two loose screws in the box (pretty sure I found where they belonged). I'm a little leery of the coating on the griddle holding up just based on the other qc issues; if Blackstone wants to make longterm customers they will make replacement griddles (14" & 20") available for purchase asap. Would go a long way to assuaging concerns for early adopters.
