HUGE jigsaw puzzles thrifting haul! How many did I buy in 5 trips?

Ойын-сауық

Join me thrifting for jigsaw puzzles! I kind of went a little nuts because I am not allowed to buy anymore new puzzles (at least until the holidays) and this is my way of circumventing my own rules 😅Most of the stores I went to was Savers.

    8:00 - I have the earlier (2012) version of the 'The Boston T' puzzle. The logo is a squiggly 'NYPC' on 4 puzzle-piece outlines. The Legend in in the lower-left and the Green Lines' lines are all scrunched together.

    I haven't had a chance to work on the Boston T puzzle yet, I am hoping the quality remains consistent with the older versions!

    You have the best puzzle haul videos!! I don't think I heard any talking, which trust me a lot of the other puzzle haul videos do way too much talking for my liking! I love your music, your sense of humor, great job. 😀

    Um i cannot believe how stocked those shelves are??? Even the biggest puzzle sections at the thrift stores in my town are like 1/10 of one of those. I live in a smaller city though and there's probably less puzzlers here in general. Thrifting for puzzles has become a new hobby of mine and im starting to think i can't call myself a minimalist anymore because of how fast im accumulating puzzles 😅 thankfully I'm very good at keeping it tidy and i constantly donate puzzles im done with and dont want to keep forever... otherwise id be right back into hoarder territory like when i was a kid 😂

    Yeah managing all the puzzles I have accumulated so far is getting rough! I am offloading some to 2 monthly-ish swaps I go to and giving it away to friends and family. The goal this year is if I want new puzzles, I can only swap or have to sell some to and pay for it from the sell stash! Not sure how well that is going to work 😅

    Way cool, got some neat puzzles in that group. As a model railroader, I would have gotten that Lionel puzzle shown at shop 2. Now I have another to look for out here.

    I'm always unsure whether or not I should get the Dowdle puzzles. I see them at the thrift store most everytime I'm there. The art style is a little bit too much of the same for me. Not sure if that makes sense. But I am tempted to pick up the ones of the places I have been to or dream about going. I think putting them together would then be associated with a good feeling, which would make the experience a lot better for me! The Lake Tahoe one is one of the prettier ones out of the whole collection - in my opinion. Glad you picked it!

    I am still not as well versed in puzzling without reference just yet. I was "forced" to with a recent Wasgij puzzle I did and it does add an extra layer of fun, though it took much longer than expected to finish it.

    For the Ravensburger bookshop puzzle, you can take the lid to a copy shop and make an enlarged color copy for a poster to use as a guide. I do that sometimes when there is no poster in the box and the image on the lid is too small for my tastes.

    i JUST did the Mystic Maze this week. 10/10 love it!! PS. I've never even thought to thrift puzzles. I always worry about missing pieces... Did you find out if the Dog puzzle had all the pieces?

  • @Cozy-Puzzles

    @Cozy-Puzzles

    I was in a similar boat about thrifting and missing pieces, but once I ended up with a brand new puzzle that was missing a piece, I threw that fear out of the window! I feel like the lower cost of the puzzle ($2-5) at a thrift store outweighs the fear of missing pieces for me now. There's also a lot sold that are still brand new and factory sealed. So far, I would say about 90% of the puzzles from thrifting are complete and intact for me. I'm now finding thrifting puzzles to be a new hobby in of itself because I don't know what I will end up with when I visit. It's also pretty exciting to put together a complete puzzle that might retail for $30 but I paid $3 for it! And yes! The Dog's Life puzzle was complete and had all the pieces! It's a keeper for the permanent collection for me.

    can you open the box to see what's inside before you buy them? Also are there any missing pieces?

  • @Cozy-Puzzles

    @Cozy-Puzzles

    6 ай бұрын

    In some thrift stores, they close it by rubber banding it so in those cases I open the box to check it, not so when it is taped. I know of some people who would count the pieces before they buy it. But I don't have that patience. But I get most of my thrifted puzzles for $2-4 and I feel like it's worth the risk. For the used ones I buy, they're about 80% complete. The ones that have missing pieces I will mark how many is missing and will donate it back to the thrift store.

    I got them from Savers so they ranged from $2.49 to 5.49. the average was about $3.49. I also usually take coupons with me so they average about $3 a puzzle

    Interesting that Savers have different prices. I've never been thrifting before; are items usually marked based on condition or just a flat% off of list price? Also I'm interested in a BePuzzled Murder in the Wind video! I'm just so curious how they made a murder mystery out of it.

  • @Cozy-Puzzles

    It seems to have an overall price/value for an item/brand, and if it is brand new, it will be marked up a bit more. Like a clearly used 1000 piece might be $3.49-$4.99 regardless of the condition of the box (some are very beat up). But if it is a brand new puzzle, still shrink wrapped, I have seen it anywhere from $5.99 to $8.99 in the same store. I have also gotten lucky and found brand new ones for $4.99. It seems to depend on whoever is marking the prices.
