My grandfather raised a Holstein bull named Butter Boy, back some 50 years ago. After the Falkland war many of his cattle went to the Falkland country.

I have some land and my farmer neighbour has a Limousin herd. The bulls seem pretty lazy & docile and if anything, the cows seem more aggressive especially when they have calves. The idea of a bull as a pet crossed my mind but all my research, and advice from local farmers, is that even the most docile of them can be unpredictable and are liable to become aggressive at some point when hormones get the better of them. And often there is no warning. So it’s just not worth the risk IMO.

The Reson for the Ring is to Help control the Bull, without the Ring, the Bull would drag the person around, even ram the person. I've worked on Dariy farms, with Bulls this big. You NEED TO be able to control Them properly.

Holstein bulls are notoriously dangerous and unpredictable. The light tugging keeps them focused on being handled, and keeps them from deciding to do something else. It is about safety. The alternative is much worse.

Try to handle those bulls without nose rings. Your soul will be out of your mashed body within seconds. You can't spare a rod on rearing a bull weighing 1000+kg ( you can never handle/control a bull just with love)
