We did a huge harvest in the garden today, and it felt so good to get so much produce cleared out and into the root cellar. We picked potatoes, leeks, squash and cabbage, including the giant cabbage I was waiting to pick all summer. Any guesses as to how many lbs we ended up with?
Thanks for watching!

You are so positive and great when you react to your family members. Such an inspiration to me. I have learned so much from you. My husband is so thankful I am watching your channel.
I am so glad you protect your husband and children. Too many folks go way overboard sharing! Blessings to you and your beautiful family. Kudos for your content.
Came to see the pups stayed to see the Garden
What is it about harvest videos? I could watch all day! lol
I think those small orange squash are called Kuri squash. I have grown them and love them with chicken, coconut milk and curry soup.

I was about the comment the same. They look a lot like the Kuri squash I've received in CSA boxes.
I always wonder why you never seem to have a wagon or crate right beside you so you don't have to pick things up twice. Just a hummm. Love your channel and your sense of humor. Recipes are great, too!😊
I love that you respect that you don't put your kids on your videos, we do here how kind you are too your kids every video and you guys are doing amazing I can't wait to see your next video 😊
Well, I had thought about that and wondered why they don’t help you, but I just thought that’s your business and not mine.
I'm really happy to watch your video, I hope you will grow and create for the benefit of all our compatriots with love. And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.
So nice to see a family that does not leave a digital footprint of their children. I’m sure they will appreciate that! Love hearing the weights of the produce!
Love your video and totally respect your decision to protect your children.
I hate to see your garden end!! I have really enjoyed watching you!! And I know that it makes you happy and it's made me happy too!!❤❤❤
Wonderful Harvest! I think it’s a great choice to have children off camera. I Love watching your channel! I learn a new tidbit every episode. Thank you for sharing your passion. 😊
It’s like opening presents whose tags fell off. What fun!
I love watching homesteaders harvesting the fruits of labour.
Looks like a Flat Dutch Cabbage. Beautiful! Wonderful harvest. Thank you for sharing, Chelsea.
Eat those lovely Brussel sprout leaves! 😊 Maybe the younger children might like to make a map for you of the garden once the beds are cleared - and measure out the beds with tapes etc.. then they can help you fill in their blank map each year as you plant? Might be fun to do. ❤
Thank you for talking about how your family helps. Since I’m new to your channel, I was wondering about you doing all the work! Very wise not to have your children on the screen!
I love adding Brussel sprouts to my ham and split pea soup. Taste like a boiled dinner. Awesome amount of veggies. ❤
So much fun to finally see the squashes and pumpkins! I love ALL the sunflowers, everywhere you turn in your garden, they are there!! great harvest day~!
So much fun watching you pull and weigh your harvest 👏👏great job ..in my opinion .. I don’t farm..but would love to have had my own garden. I love seeing this thru your eyes.. you’ve worked very hard for this bounty ..congrats to you, your husband and kids👏💜
Enjoyed the video, but the flowers make my day . Smiling still !
Chelsea, you are such a hard worker for your family. I know Dan is also a big part of the successful garden. You are indeed lucky to have the land and good health to plant a garden each year. ❤❤❤

You might not be so good at putting tags on your purchases, but your very good at everything else you do. You and your husband are absolutely brilliant, especially after the year you have all had. Next year I hope you have a great year.?
In my country cabbage is usually preserved fermented, whole heads as well as chopped as sauerkraut. People also sometimes ferment leaves to make cabbage rolls, which are so much better with fermented cabbage. If you live in colder climate, they can last until spring like that.
The porch full of squash is just glorious. I love the harvest videos. I remember years past when all of your kids were out harvesting squash and pumpkins with you and getting so excited about whose was largest. Thanks for adding KZread to all of your other hard work.
For record keeping my garden, I took a school scribbler and used that. Nothing fancy, hand drawn rectangles for the beds and lines for the rows. Write in what was planted where. I never got around to writing in varieties of veggies. But at least I knew to rotate veggies each year.
That's a lot of fantastic food you harvested!! That cabbage was massive!
Love to see your harvesting. Very satisfying after such a dry year. Really love the old shed, have a weakness for the old tools and their history.
You are such an impressive gardener, zone 3b. Thanks for sharing.
I always put old rags on each individual squash so the vines can die back
The first squash is a Red Kuri squash.
You are such a hard worker I really like watching you I have less so much from you that I didn't know thank you very much for sharing with us
We were always told to leave the Brussels sprouts till after a least one hard frost. We are in zone 5 so maybe that's why. I always picked them straight from the garden to serve for the holidays. Many times they were covered in snow
I’ve been watching your videos for a few days now (new subscriber here) and I’m learning so much from you! My fiancé and I are moving next spring and my dream is to be a homesteader. I’ve been doing a ton of research and trying to learn what to do from videos online. I absolutely love your videos! Thank you so much for sharing your garden life with us!
I think the pumpkin in 03:14 is a Hokkaido pumpkin. I don’t know, if you also call it like that in your country but in Germany we do. It’s the most popular variety in Germany, so you can buy it like everywhere!😂
Wonderful harvest! Your flowers are still looking beautiful!
We weighed and kept track of everything we grew this year for motivation! I want to do a price comparison to if we had purchased thr same amount in store to see how much we saved/grew.
The smaller orange squash that you harvested first look like Red Kuri, also known as Potimarron squash. I grew a vine this year and harvested 4 beautiful squash. They have dry dense flesh which taste a bit like sweet potato. Great roasted in large or small chunks (I like a knob of butter on mine :) ), mashed and used for 'shepherd's pie' topping or used for soups like butternut.
That was a great harvest! Loved all the squashes! 😉
That Cabbage would make yummy stuffed cabbage leaves
They look like Kuri (Hokkaido) squash. Wealthy apple is considered one of the best apples ever...sweet, good eating and baking with good storage. Parent is Dutchess of Oldenburg (originally from Russia) and was widely grown in northern Europe in the 19th Century and was imported in 1835 by the Massachusssets Horticultural Society, and eventually also ended up in Minnesota and the University of Minnesota in 1920 and their cold hearty apple breeding program (see below) where it was crossbread. In fact Dutchess of Oldenburg parentage is present in almost every apple variety ever developed in the Minnesota program....I have nearly all Minnesota apples in my orchard except those patented for commercial production only, we'll need to wait until the patent expires or not renewed for those trees. Wealthy is an offspring of the Dutchess, as its known, hardy to zone 3...so it makes sense it was popular in Minnesota considering our winters. Wealthy was introduced Minnesota back in 1860 by Peter Gideon, and Wealthy itself also has many famous offsprings like Haralson, Epicure, Laxton's Fortune, and Red Sauce. Don't mean to be a smarty, but I keep a history page for each of the apple trees in my orchard. Hope this is interesting to you as well. PS...a fun fact, parentage can now also be determined by genetic testing of apples, amazing!
Oh boy, that was fun! Congrats on a wonderful harvest considering the summer we all experienced.
😂 my husband & I were actually having a discussion earlier about digital scales & the old school scales 😂
You should be proud you had a drought. I Vermont USA it never stopped raining and it still keeps raining.
I can’t wait to see your pantry of all the stuff that you canned up
No matter how big or how small the harvest, EVERY pound of it feels SO satisfying!
Chelsea you have got to grow CUSHAW squash. You will love them and the store well and make the best pies, cakes and rolls. I’ll send you some seeds if you want them. Just let me know!
This year I'm growing the Northern Candy Squash for the first time, and they are doing really well in the worst part of my garden. I spotted the Georgia Candy when ordering other seeds, and since it said they produce a slightly smaller squash I ordered those to try next year to see if they'll set more per plant. I glad you really enjoy them, because I don't know anyone else that grows them.
What a bountiful harvest!!!!😊 I love your blue pumpkins so unique. I can't wait to see your leak & potatoes soup. We were stationed in England for 3 years and I really miss their soup 🍲
My parents lived in Clearwater. Dad always had an amazing potato crop. He always added 5 wheel barrow loads of compost to each row and tilled it in. He kept them well hilled. When we dug potatoes in the fall, they were dug and put in 5 gallon buckets within a few hours and then we’d dump them in a big wooden box he built in the root cellar. We had a row of potatoes this year that the deer chewed down to just a few inches. We got half an ice cream bucket of potatoes from the entire row. 😢 Every time I see your cabbage it reminds me of my parents cabbage. Theirs was always huge like yours and never a hole in the leaves. We have to keep ours covered here or we go to Desert Hills to buy a few heads.
LOVE the crunch sound when picking cabbage.
I would be so happy to have all that squash I love them
A Wealthy apple tree was a favorite heirloom variety in our area of Nova Scotia.
I love your harvests. How very cool to use the old weights scale!!! It might make a great winter restoration project for one of the older boys and Dan. Then it could live anywhere as decor and practicality. ❤
Glad you are weighing the cabbage
I use the leaves on the leeks as well. I chop and freeze them and add them to soups and stews, especially chili. 😊
I keep saying I am going to try Rachel at That 1870s homestead’s balsamic Brussels sprouts that she canned last year.
Gosh, do I look forward to your videos! :) I can't wait to see my second of your pantry tours- having watched the whole gardening year, it will be particularly sweet! I can't imagine how cool it must be.

It’s very rewarding sometimes! Thank you!
I've heard of storing root veg in sand (carrots and beets specifically) but not cabbage.
Why don’t you use a frost row cover? That way you can protect any of the ones that are not ready yet and you don’t have to worry 😊
Absolutely love watching your videos.
What an amazing harvest 🤗. Such a blessing for you and your family. Thank you Chelsea for sharing the things in on your farm. Can't wait to see what color you paint your kitchen cabinets. 😁
What a wonderful harvest you have had so far!
The small orange Hubbard like squash may be Uchiki Kuri, a Japanese hubbard variety. West Coast Seeds carries them. They are lovely roasted with edible skin and a nutty flavour.
Happy to see a video. Have a great week.
I’m so interested to see what you do with all of the produce, especially the squash.
The leaves from the brussel sprout plants are awesome for eating! It's similar to the cabbage leaves. I use them in soups and stir frys.
Every year I say I am going to keep records of what I plant. I start out good but I don’t know what happens. Maybe next year will be better
Zone 9a. Today is supposed to be 99 degrees. I am ready for fall.
Amazing job. Must give you a real sense of accomplishment and joy.
I so enjoy your videos, love seeing those beautiful squash and pumpkins, so colorful. ✝️💟
Lovely, lovely to see your harvest Chelsea. with those leeks you could make waterzooi with some chicken…highly recommend this Belgian chicken soup, the best comfort food ever.
Happy harvest 🎉🎉
Yes, I enjoyed it and that sounds really good potato and leek soup. Enjoy.
Beautiful harvest!!
The leaves of the brussel sprouts look great, they should be very tasty❤

I just had some fried with cabbage….Delicious! - Daniel
What a great harvest!! Enjoy the bountiful goodness of your garden!!!
Love seeing the harvest 😊
That’s not to mention all of the tomatoes and zucchini and the stuff that you’ve eat during the summer so you could probably safely say 1000 pounds of food that you harvested and stored
🇦🇺I love potato and leek soup. Yum.

What a really nice harvest! ❤
I love the sunflowers...they just make me happy🌻🌻🌻
Looks like Kuri Squash! Delicious!
in time past there was some-one working those tools etc. what a privilage you now have them
Amazing garden!
Lovely video as always!
Awesome harvest. Just amazing!!
Looks like a bountiful harvest!! Have you ever tried trellises for you squash? Thanks for sharing your life and ideas with us!!😊
Per Nava Leah, who watches your videos, you should always keep a garden journal with information such as: planting dates, garden location (make a map of your garden and zone each area with numbers or letters for quick reference and keep that map with your journal for future reference regarding soil health), type of produce, variety, number of plants, yield weights, losses, weather factors, fertilizers, etc, so you can compare harvest each year and know if yield is affected by weather or soil issues. She also added that you should get some wood and a wood burner to "tag" or "spike" fruit trees, bushes and your regular produce varieties, they won't poison your soil like plastic spikes. If your children eat the yields from your garden, they should regularly contribute to the work involved in getting those yields to the table, it doesn't matter if gardening is your thing or not. She would also like to know what recipes you have for spaghetti squash?
Wonderful harvest. Thank you for sharing.
So festive and colourful 🎉
Beautiful harvest. What wonderful meals you will make with it all.
Impressive harvest thanks for sharing such a great bounty
