    Clean ,organized fish room..A+ on that. Fish are healthy and all have room to move..A+..No big cichlids in isolation 24/7 with only a flower pot in its world. I really hate that the more I see it. Loved them Odessa Barbs. Oldies but goodies getting love in the 21st century. I started in the 70's of the 20th!

    Thanks Stan, glad to have you Observe this vid! Personally, I always cringe at tanks that are so overstocked that the fish can't behave somewhat normally...I totally agree with you there. And yes, Odessa Barbs are like tight genes...they come back around every so often!

    How refreshing to see all the Killies. It is unfortunate that they aren't at all popular with most hobbyists because of the belief that they are annuals, although there are so many brightly colored non-annuals. Sadly, Glofish have really taken over the hobby and I hang my head in shame. Procatopus similis are awesome but, ugh, a pain to breed because you often get a lot of belly sliders. My favorite is Scriptaphyosemion cauveti. First Killie I ever kept, love the colors and they are (IMO) the easiest of all Killies to breed. A. australe are easy but a number of the Scriptaphyos are even easier.

  • @DansFish

    @DansFish

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yep, Scripts are easy to breed. Although the fry are a bit smaller than some other types. Were you able to feed them bbs right away? I've never had a problem with belly sliders with Procatopus...but everyone's setups and experiences are different. I totally agree that most killies could easily be more widespread in the fish hobby instead of being seen as a specialty item.

    @@DansFish No bbs right away. It was easiest to keep them in with the adults in a tank with java moss where they could feed on infusoria post hatch before moving on to micro worms and bbs. The first batch I ever hatched took vinegar eels immediately but grew slower than those I left in the tank for about a week. Script schmitti produces larger fry that can take bbs immediately.

    Hello Aquaticfish7, Thanks for the sub! If that aquarium is fully mature and has had fish in it for several months without any issues, then I think you could put LOTS of threadfins in there. It all depends on how many water changes you want to do. I think that anywhere up to 20 more threadfins would do just fine and look awesome.

    I've only got 2 tanks right now, but really want to get into breeding fish as a hobby, but also sell them. Would you say your hobby pays for itself or is it you just enjoy it so much you don't mind the extra expense?

  • @DansFish

    @DansFish

    5 жыл бұрын

    Blue, it totally depends on how you set things up and run things. MOST folks who decide to breed lots of fish for sale end up filling all their tanks with cool fish and find they don't have room to breed/raise the number of fish it would take to make a buck. If $$$ is the goal, my suggestion would be to keep only a few species so you have room to raise thousands weekly. That is what I think it would take to make a living at this. However, with 2 tanks you can still make enough to pay for the hobby. If you get a few pairs of killifish or livebearers, put them in 1 of the tanks with lots of plants or spawning mops, then move the parents to tank number 2 when babies appear, you can do okay. Lots of variables, but that's my short take on it.

    Yes! If we still lived in the print era, I would have kept the possessive form of the name. However, in the digital age, having to type that ' is aggravating to folks browsing social media on their phones. Text, SMS, Facebook, KZread, and mobile devices are changing our language. The professor in me wants to fight it sometimes, but the result would be less views and less sales. The way I write my user name is technically incorrect, but it is more effective in the digital world. And, in the end, language has always been fluid, so I guess I might as well just embrace this "LOL" world.

    Okay 1 big issue I'm having to stop the video and not watch it further is because fish room tour are meant to be done by an other person and not the owner.
