I mean That just sounds like an excuse for the inadequacy in balancing a game of your own design. Could at least making non meta archtypes contender, def not asking for tier 1 treatment, maybe tear 3 or even 4.

I would love a rogue-like mode such as Path of Champions from Legends of Runeterra. Start with a starter deck and duel against waves of AI bots. With each win, you get to pick 1 of 3 random cards to add to your deck and empower it. Perhaps you can have themes like D/D/D, Tenyi, or Sharks as a starter deck, and the cards you get are slightly based on those so that you dont get utterly useless cards.

@@heyarnold2006 The issue is, we want to use modern cards. Not an old banlist, that can be ignored, against the same actually trash decks. I dont find it fun fighting 'lore accurate kaiba' with full power Frog FTK. I want something a little more story driven, start with a crap deck, build up a collection of cards and try to deck down bots playing meta viable decks. Something I can duel with on my own team, when I want, having fun.

Hearthstone Solo Mode / Duels runs wants to know your location… Bad humour aside, it’s a cool idea and I’d engage with it in MD for sure. Particularly if they gave you a retry or two. The thing with HS is you can mulligan away opening hand bricks, which is necessary as the mode is roguelite and forces a full reset upon loss. I reckon YGO needs to give solo content that requires substantial time investment a post-loss retry (or just build the mode with check points so that you don’t have to start from scratch after a helpless loss).

3:18 An even better example imo is Dead by Daylight, a game with an INVISIBLE mmr system that is completely removed from the visible grades and ranks, that people for some reason grind.

Completive yugioh is only fun at the highest level because of side decking and all the counterplay possible. This is going to be garbage soley because this will be best of one still. Yugioh is always significantly more fun with more variety and different modes anyways. This mode effectively does nothing for either the pro or "casual" playerbase, which is a common theme for konami nowadays.

I'm about to say the forbidden word... Here's what you get in Hearthstone for making Legend (the top ladder position, after reaching it for the month it switches from showing ladder position to showing rank relative to other Legend players) - the very first time you reach Legend, you get a random Legendary card (the highest rarity) of the most recent set and a cardback, and each time it adds an additional pack to your end-of-month chest. I've never heard any complaints about "It's not worth it to reach Legend." And I still love doing my Tavern Brawl. Each week is a twist on the game (e.g. one week, the twist was that your start-of-turn draw is guaranteed to be a card you can afford to play that turn) and you get a Standard pack for your first win each week.

One small correction, the casual match matchmaking actually does match you according to your rank. When i tried it in a new account i was being matched vs rookie, bronze, etc. but when i play casual match on my main its always diamond/master players

Master duel is the biggest waste of potential in the history of YGO. It's just so featureless for no justifiable reason. It could have been such an amazing way to play YGO, but they just don't expand it at any sort of reasonable pace.

VW currently has maybe 2 relevant URs - snake-eye diabelstar has like 6+ CARDS some of which are played at 3 in the main deck alone. It is the most blatant and covetous change I’ve seen in pvp resources. At least in DL the absurdity was front loaded

I mean truthfully a mode thats made to be more competitive gets the hyper competitive players out of the same queue as the casuals, so the people practicing dont have to face a blue eyes free win, and the blue eyes players dont have to have their world shattered. Overall, it's a win even if it's not a "casual focused" mode.

@@maggiethechattyhound9580 that is just a bad solution. because rogue decks or better can go to master. a lot of casuals plays rogue decks. see the correlation? what it does is limits the casual by a lot while casual want to play whatever they want.

I think what could be done with casual mode to help with matchmaking could be tied to Master Duel having usage and win rate statistics of cards, where it weights your matchmaking to make it so that in casual mode you are more likely to be matched with decks where something like the "average win rate %" of cards is roughly equal. Not guaranteed but just that it's more likely that Dark Magician Andy is matched against someone running Vehicroids than people playtesting meta decks. If there were a database with stats I could probably crunch numbers to see if this sort of matchmaking would be practical.

4:01 There are those who do. People with youtube channels, too. I don't treat it with any sort of significance, but yes, there are more competitive-minded people who dislike solo or festivals specifically because they think it is unserious BS.

3:18 League does give skins/boarders/icons based on ranking as well as items and recall animations for Challenger players.

A good reward for ranked would be a ticket or points that lets you turn a card off your choice into a royal finish etc depending on where you place at the end of the season

Tbf Master Duel was always targeted for competitve players. They literally said this when they announched it a few years ago.

They can still give the top 10 players something. Like what if they got an automatic invitation to the next tournament? Or they automatically get a higher placement when MD does their qualifiers.

"It's okay to not be the target audience of something" should be like Yugioh's motto, with so many people angrily forcing themselves to do things within the game they don't want to do.

As someone who likes to play non-meta stuff and never got past gold: the casual mode is meaningless. You play against the exact same decks in ranked and in casual, but rewards in ranked are better. The fact that Konami doesn't have a line to trace "this is a casual format" hurts both master duel and the irl card game.

If Konami wants to make a more casual mode, make an "anime" bracket No handtraps, no toolbox, no engine, you register with a specific archetype/series and can only use a deck based around it an cards that support it or are linked to it in type/attribute

I would love an arena mode like hearhstone has,i didnt play hearhstone for years but i always thought arena mode was fun. Picking a card out of 3 untill you get a full deck and hope it works against other people is kinda cool,they could even do the same thing pay 100 gems to get in and try to get x amount of wins to get more gems out of it. The only problem i see with that would be bots spamming this to farm gems but you could put a weekly cap on it to earn gems.

I just wish we could get a cool number on our account that goes further than top 10

Master 2 felt like the most competitive rank by far, since i even find myself trolling with random decks once i reach master 1. It's been a while I've been in Gold or Plat, but i remember the same feeling (albeit with better players... on average) Having no rewards is the right way i believe so that more casual players (judging from myself) that only grind up to master 1 for gems won't feel pressured because of missing rewards, so it only leaves the player who truly want to grind the ranks. It's exciting to the point i want to find time in a season so that i can grind as well. This should replace the Duelist Cup Hell and instead every season award spots so that we can have a tournament between those winners to decide teams for Worlds. It works even with Challenger Cups and would make ygo into an eSports if managed accordingly

I think the issue is in ranked, you wont see a lot of casual /low tier decks like blue eyes, dark magician and heros, But in casual, you'll come across a lot of snake eyes, tearlament, floos and other meta / mid meta decks. There isnt really a safe space for people to play their favorite decks without having to go against a 1 card board omni negate flood gate combo. Obvs you could ban these meta decks and let the nostalgic / old decks work, but then the old decks that were "meta" back in those days would then become an issue.

I still don't understand how we don't have alternate formats in MD yet. Literally just take the festivals and make ladders for them. Like how loud do people have to be about how popular N/R fest was before they just GIVE IT to us? You could even make it a rotating thing. Like maybe this season there's xyz ladder and n/r ladder, next season it's synchros and highlander, links and legends, xyz synchro and fusion, etc etc. like we already have these formats and banlists IN THE GAME. we just don't have an actual ladder for them.

I get pretty high up the ladder most seasons. But I think they should really bring in a more casual format like time wizard edison. I know some rulings are different but I think most people just wanna play against something that isn't snake eye

Just give the casual players a Format mode. The temporary Format events have all been big hits, at least going by social media and content creation responses, AND it solves the problem of Casual just being Test My Ladder Deck mode. Make them a single player pool that rotates the format monthly if you're worried about dividing the playerbase rather than keeping them all up all the time. Give it a separate ladder or don't, that can be up to Konami, but I want to play around with old decks damnit! Also Draft Events like MTGA.

I do think the casual duels could benefit from some sort of system like you see with smogon and their tiers. Obviously it wouldnt quite work on a card by card basis, but perhaps archetypes?

Something that magic the gathering arena does that I hope master duel will emulate at some point is unranked modes have 2 different mmr values they combine together to find matches. The first is just a standard mmr value that goes up when you win games and down when you lose games nothing too special, but the second is quite interesting. Every card in the game has it's own mmr for casual game modes as well and the total mmr of the cards in your deck is combined with that standard mmr. What this means is that players with powerful decks are much more likely to run into other players with powerful decks and players with incomplete collections or are playing weaker strategies are more likely to run into each other.

It'd be cool if like top 5 on the ladder got world's invites or something, as well as the cosmetic stuff mentioned. Maybe like a medal that goes on your profile saying you finished at X ranking during season Y.

What this game really needs is a weekly rotating time wizard format mode. Where it has Goat, DDT, Edison, Etc. on rotation every week between 4 formats that Konami choses. My biggest complaint with Master Duel is the best of 1 system and old Yugioh while it does matter if you go first... It's not a total uphill battle to win like it is nowadays. I'd play again if something like that was a thing.

You also get the Boarders, Icons, and other swag to show off. Its all cosmetic, but its nice to have SOME reward. HS gives out cards for climbing and a cardback. But, this is Konami. If their prize support for IRL is as bad as it is, you will be lucky if they keep a record of the seasonal leaderboard. Maybe they give you 50 gems!

They also get an overwhelming advantage due to high quality playtesting thanks to testing groups, not only solving deck building and tech cards, but also interactions to the point of being able to predict an entire duel based on the initial actions. Meanwhile fundamental game knowledge and identifying favorable interactions (or choke points) on the fly, as well as innovation in deck building become pretty much nonexistent. Both are skillful, they just have a different skill expression

Tbf sf6 didn't have that feature day 1 either, but MD also didn't have the top rank for several months

This is basically ELO rating from chess but I do agree with the criticism that getting to master is TIME consuming. Remember that if matchmaking is fair, you should only win 50% of duels you run into, unless you play an anti-meta deck or stun deck. Speaking of which, this new rating system is abusable by stun decks although I say this as someone who doesn't know their winrates, they simply feel unbeatable when I run into them. Other than going first of course.

My only complaint is how it's not like chess elo. Maybe guess the rate could still work, but it's not gonna be less about skill and more about grind.

Add alternative formats and tag duels.

Vanguard zero had the best rank rewards. You got exclusive alt arts for relevant cards and cardbacks. 1 copy and cardbacks for reaching a certain rank and then a playset of alt arts if you reach one of the highest ranks. I don't remeber what the prize is for the #1 and top 10.

I’ve been playing master duel since April and one thing I’ve noticed, is that there is little for mid-higher end players to receive a gem bonus compared to beginner players. I don’t like drawing comparisons in discussion of games but back when I played dragon ball legends, I would remember scrounging challenges, pve missions, and co op missions to get 10k chrono crystals in hopes for the new LF/ultra unit that’s going to be meta for a month. The issue with master duel is simply from the fact that it’s much more Efficient to just make a new account get the free 4k gems from solo and stomp on the players until platinum/diamond with a half finished meta deck and finish it once you get the ranked rewards. With the fact that there is nothing for higher end players to rebuild their deck with, especially noting that they are the target for banlist hits. They defiantly need more/better rewards for “good players”

Rocket league has 4 casual game mods which are constantly there and then a random one which changes every week/event. Might be nice to have Goat, Edison, Skill Drain & something else as permanent and then phase in another. I think yugioh could also benefit from themed events. These events could add new missions, packs, mates and also a Duel event. For example, we could have a summer, fire event, a zombie/vampire/fiend Halloween event, a fairy/light Christmas event, a wind st. patricks day event etc. etc ...

I have absolutely seen competitive players complain when nee Solo Modes get added. I think this is a dumb update, but only because I think this should have already been part of the game.

Here's the thing I love the idea of a ranked mode for master duel but I also am casual but understand meta yugioh I just understand how people feel when you play against 40 different people all running the same deck profile I think alot of it is people don't want to build a deck them selves they watch a video or see a deck list online and with there money they copy and paste that's the problem with yugioh rn in my opinion

"how is my blue eyes anime deck gonna make it i totally cant try other strategies and definitely have to continue to play only this deck" this is a very good change and welcomed. And for people who think this isnt good because ah meta sheep bs you dont have to play meta decks to get to master 1 or higher and its dumb that people only think of master duel as casual only.

They should add other duel formats to the game with their own ranked queues. GOAT, edison and highlander would be great.

If you wanna play a game casually you have to make friends, it's literally the only way Gotta join a community that plays casually or make irl friends who are on your level/will lower themselves to your level

It’s a great change. Won’t be bothered to participate. Been playing since the release and I can’t be bothered to climb to master every season. Lucky to play enough to buy packs every month these days

A nice cordoned off little pen for all the sweatiest sweats to congregate amongst themselves is the best thing that can happen to casual players. In terms of giving these guys actual rewards, maybe they should lift the limit on gems they can get from the basic rewards after each duel? So if they're on the long grind, they can at least make a tidy profit at the end of each day.

As a casual weather painter, gladiator beast, and ancient gear mains, additional solo modes are welcomed. Especially those who has awesome lore like world chalice and albaz. Would be better if they were harder tho

when I was still playing Master Duel, I told people many times "casual matches" are useless, because no one is gonna stop a pro practicing their meta decks on casuals... real casual matches is go to a forum with a dedicated casual group, and make custom matches. The right idea is how to make the pros not care about the casual rooms/matches.

Yes, mostly in the OCG, because they don't want to hurt pet deckers because THEY KNOW it's a big part of their audience. Complain about Maxx C all you want but at least they don't force you to buy 1000 USD decks to remain competent.

​@@N12015OCG? Before Trickstar Sky Striker, Burning Abyss was the most successful deck of all time, plants aren't considered even tier 2 yet they win events. Casual is the lifeblood of the game as well as the biggest player pool, and you can easily identify this by comparing subs between casual and competitive yugitubers. Competitive yugitubing just became a lot better during the last years but it still pales in comparison to the volume of casual content.

The cards in OCG are cheaper by a very large margin while also having quite good reprints for example in recent structure decks which contain a bunch of metaviable cards. Besides their banlist decisions I would argue that everything else (for example very cheap prices for meta cards in much more diff rarities instead of only printing it in SCR or higher) is just better than whatever is happening in TCG besides some TCG only cards. TCG (short)printing certain cards so players have to spend absurd amounts of money to keep competing is such a weird model to look at when you have the much more appealing OCG model coexist at the same time.

Yeah, I don't understand what the argument is for complaining about this: if you don't care for it you aren't affected by it

Casuals might enjoy a crossover alternative format like Heart of the Underdog or Common Charity, with a unique ban list that is effectively “casual decks only”

Challenger Players in League of Legends receive a reward at the end of each season for reaching the rank. It used to be Backpacks or Jackets. Im not sure if they still do though.

That's something I hate in general about online games. They could always add something more, something that would make millions of players stick their asses to their chairs and never stand up again, something that would not even be too much of an effort and that could easily make the companies a shit ton of money. Wtf would it cost Konami to implement an actual solo mode in which you can test your decks against multiple different foes, maybe from the anime or the movies (something like the campaign of the other single player yu gi oh games)? Nothing. It would add a big amount of content, that could attract new players, but instead they choose to keep the solo mode as the absolute shit hole that is right now. How much would it cost them to make more events, maybe some that are a bit more f2p friendly? How much would it cost them to keep the retro formats as game modes? Of course something like this would be hard to keep free to play, but there's still a lot they could do. They could add more cosmetics. Do you know how much would something like a lady lab/Promethean princess mate would sell? But no, instead the game is still basically the same after more than 2 years. The laziness is unreal.

I just want them to add tag duels and draft.

Can we fucking finally have sealed / draft mode? Like, fml, how hard is it to implement one.
