幌似鉄道記念公園は北海道の共和町にあり、1985年(昭和60年)に廃止された国鉄岩内線の駅、幌似駅駅舎、有蓋緩急車(ワフ29500形貨車）、客車(スハフ42形)が保存、展示されている。有蓋緩急車(ワフ29500形貨車）は1955年(昭和30年)から1961年(昭和36年)にかけて国鉄(日本国有鉄道,JRの前身)に配備された貨車で、内張りによって外部の温度や湿度の影響をある程度緩和することができる貨車(有蓋車)と列車にブレーキを掛ける為の装置が付けられた緩急車(車掌車)が合わっている。客車(スハフ42形)は急行列車の普通座席車(スハ43形)に車掌室が設置されている。因みにカタカナ表記の「ワ」は有蓋車、「フ」は緩急車(車掌車)、「ス」は車両の積車量37.5t～42.5t未満、「ハ」は座席車(普通車)を表している。数字は客車、台車の種類、車両の形式によって細かく分けられている。

There were coal mines and other mines along the Iwanai Line, and the area was actively transporting seafood, coal, and ore. However, the subsequent decline of herring fishing, the closure of coal mines and other mines, the construction of roads along the line, and the development of trucks, buses, and passenger cars led to a steady decline in the volume of freight on the Iwanai Line, and the line was closed in 1985.
