HSTs run in parallel on the Dawlish Sea Wall

Ойын-сауық

CrossCountry and FGW HST sets run in parallel, almost side by side, if only the FGW set was dispatched a little later ;)
Filmed on Saturday 22nd August during the Dawlish Air Show, a First Great Western HST set forms 2Z35 1538 Exeter St Davids to Newton Abbot, which is overtaken by a CrossCountry HST set, 1V54 0632 Dundee to Newquay.

    happens all the time, the lines are reversible, so trains can run in either direction, so ye it quite common to see that down there. they also do single line working that way and keep the trains away from the sea wall at high tide, they cross over juts after dawlish warren, and return right line at teignmouth. nice vid bud

    5 years on but sadly in part because of the events at Shoreham this and many other air shows are gone or scaled down. Finances were also an issue for the Dawlish show though. A big loss for the town as used to be huge crowds. Of course can't have visitors there in current situation anyway, so local businesses are struggling.

    People sitting on the edge of that sea wall, yet looking at the drop im surprised it doesn't have a fence. Does nobody realise how dangerous that could be, and often think someone could easily nudge you from behind. Im perfectly okay with heights. Hundreds of feet to the bottom of a cliff no problem but not when people are behind me on the edge of it. I dont trust anyone I cannot see.

    Around the Dawlish area ( not sure about anywhere else on that line ) the tracks are bi-directional. Meaning trains can run on either side of the tracks. This is especially helpful for overtaking on a 2 track line and if there is a broken down train blocking that line and other trains need to get past.

  • @ChangesOneTim

    @ChangesOneTim

    5 жыл бұрын

    The Up (eastbound) line between Dawlish Warren and Teignmouth is bi-directionally signalled. Originally it was to allow trains to keep running in both directions over the Up line when sea conditions block the Down line. In recent years Network Rail relaxed the instructions so that the Up line bi-di can be used with the Down line still open to traffic, i.e. for overtaking purposes. It has proved very useful in reducing overall delays. Nothing is timetabled to do this, it's only when disruption happens.
