HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct

Back from the chilterns and into the valley, after a few weeks and pleased to see that Dominique has resumed normal service and is pressing forward after ahem, a brief 'technical' pause....
A segment has just been dropped into place.

I often wonder what the crew that built the canal would make of it..standing there digging dirt with horses.. as this thing goes on above..

Back in 1979, i use to tie the rebar for these precast units of Canada's first prestressed post tension-ed cantilevered bridge, on Islington Ave, Toronto. Thanks for posting, but now my back hurts, lol!

Good to see all the safety staging and polution control booms about. However, I wonder what the magnet fishermen will be able to find after its all been cleared up (or is that the last stage of the contract)?

In 2022 we had record low water levels in Lake Ontario, Canada, and under the railway bridges crossing 20 Mile Cree/Jordan Harbour, the amount of hardware lost was ridiculous! Everything that fell off of all 3 bridges, beginning in 1850, hit the water and stayed there. You would kill yourself magnet fishing, trying to bring everything up out of the mud!

Whole viaduct should be traversed in < 20 seconds = kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y6uMlsxpcqbbiLg.html

Well there is another useless blot on the landscape we don’t need and will never use.

I’m afraid we do need extra rail capacity. The Guardian newspaper recently reported that uk population is expected to grow to nearly 74m by 2036… Better infrastructure will benefit the economy.

@@stevetony6876 I agree it needs sorting and don’t get me started on why the population is growing but upgrade existing lines and use freight lines for passengers, this white elephant will only serve people within a shorter distance to the HS2 station than their usual station, 99% of the working population in the UK will never use this.

So you think all the rail engineers/experts have got this wrong? Business leaders seem to want it too…

@@stevetony6876No, I don’t think rail engineers have got it wrong, I admire their work the same as I admire the Stephensons, Telford and Brunel, however they are dictated to by politicians that when conceived HS2 was in a time when everyone worked from an office and it was sold as a high speed link between the major cities, but times have changed.
