HRR Temple Final 2014 - Oxford Brookes vs. Brown USA
Спорт
Well there we go - the culmination of a lot of years work, attempts, and the end of the project. After 10 years of rowing, 9 years of racing at Henley Royal Regatta, and 4 years trying for the Temple Challenge Cup (for university 8's), we / I finally won the Temple!
What a way to do it too. With a massive influx on new athletes that saw the previous year's 8+ forming the majority of the 2nd VIII, we took that new unit to within 1/2L of winning last year, losing to the eventual winners D.S.R.V, Laga NED disappointingly in the quarter-finals. You take the Stern 5 that made for such rhythm, and add 3 new athletes to the bows - including my brother, Jamie. 2 years my junior, we'd never actually raced together before this season, which made the whole year that much more special.
After having a very successful racing season including double BUCS gold, pushing the German & Polish national 8's at Duisburg, taking Metropolitan Regatta apart in Elite 8's, and posting the fastest ever time by a Brookes crew, to top it off by winning Henley Regatta by open water just sealed the deal on my most successful and enjoyable racing season to date. But by no means do things stop here.
Hope you enjoy my recording of the race - I know I did!

Yikes. As a former cox, I think my crew would have chucked me in the river if I was that loud and overbearing.

Different crews like different things, some just what a relaxed cox but some want to be shouted at the whole way through the race.

Fantastic. What a cox! What a crew. And the Brown boat that they beat was excellent.

Anyone shed light on why USA University can't send their top boat to the Temple Challenge Cup because the Brown boat was all 19 year old first years
@coachcopus
9 жыл бұрын
oooomblah Because if USA colleges brought their 1V boats over - Washington from 2 years back as a prime example - then the crew would include current National Team oarsmen, which isn't in the spirit of the event racing against undergraduate students. Brown could have incorporated 2V oarsmen if they'd wanted, it didn't have to be entirely their Freshman crew

ahh makes sense I just got confused because usually US Uni's send their freshman 8. Thanks for the reply

+Rory Copus (CoachCopus) one of them lightweights was "only" european champian and world champion in the lightweight pair this year X) not to mention all the medals he's been getting at u23 tha last three years

+Ricardo Russo indeed yes, but that's happened since we raced at Henley. A lot of the guys have also been successful since then! So not sure what your point is? The whole crew was completely eligible, and being at Brookes is made them that good

+Rory Copus (CoachCopus) My point was only that your crew was pretty close to international senior level, despite still being eligeble for intermediate henley races. Also i'm quite aware of the standards of the Oxford Brookes team. Sure would like to be part of a tough crew like that!
How long is this?

what i find as a cox is that if you’ve been training for a long time and your crew won’t fall apart if you get really riled up, it’s good to do so, if they hear you giving it all and getting excited they get a burst of energy as well!
lol
