About the projekt:
Like no other German musician before, Volker Kriegel has opened the jazz to rock and fusion, first in the legendary Dave Pike Set, later in his own Mild Maniac Orchestra and of course in the United Jazz + Rock Ensemble. On the occasion of his 15th death and 75th birthday, the Frankfurt Radio Big Band reminded of the brilliant guitarist, who as a musician developed his very own handwriting, just as he was able to do as a writer and draftsman. Because it would be futile to copy such an individualist, three outstanding guitarists from the next generation after Kriegel will play here in order to interpret Kriegel's compositions in their own different ways. The Frankfurt Radio Big Band is looking forward to giving Darmstadt-born and self-confessed Wiesbadener, who spent his musical years as a sociology student in Frankfurt, a hearty "Hello, Volker!" call after.

What a great concert -- and a very deserved homage! Kriegel was truly great. All 3 guitar players do justice to his memory. (BTW, I can't think of a better name for a guitar player than Martin Scales.)

thanks a bunch for presenting this project to honor one of the all time giants of european jazz. I guess the german camera men and directors will never learn to put the focus on the guy who is soloing in a jazz concert - after 70 years of live jazz tv shows, they still show the bassist when the guitarist is soloing...

Jesse shows his class, frantic Schroder's articulation is poor and Scales is just mundane

Schröder played some nice stuff but all in all he wasn't up to the job. Scales was great though in my opinion.
