Yep! She introduced the one-armed Gienger on bars only to get lowballed like Simone did with the double double off beam! 😪

@@thesovgc Biles didn't have her dismount low-balled, the full-in tuck is overscored. A double tuck is a D, a double pike is an E, yet both their full-ins are Gs. The full-in tuck should be an F meaning the Biles would still be an H (0.2 per twist). There's also the fact that the Biles is only an H on paper, because with the 0.2 B+F connection bonus all bwd take-off F+ dismounts are worth 0.2 more than their listed values, so the Biles is actually a J. Without that bonus I'd be more inclined to that say it should be an I, but that would be the limit. The tucked double front is the hardest BB dismount but that's only valued an F. Also only *one* gymnast in history (Oksana Limaryova) has been able to connect to a front handspring (B-skill), which actually makes it *MUCH* more difficult to perform; as opposed to a bwd dismount where a back handspring is a necessity. It also means that it, like all other F+ fwd dismounts, are essentially eliminated from receiving the 0.2 B+F bonus. So in short, the Biles dismount was not low-balled--especially not in comparison to the one-arm giant.

@@MD-722I like how you mentioned the double front only being done by one person in combination like the biles hasn't only been done by it's creator either. Don't know how the full in is overvalued when still a difficult dismount. Yes the double front definitely deserves a higher rating, but how many people have been able to do a full in without a deep squat or almost under rotating it? The biles isn't gonna be performed by anyone anytime soon either. Literally no one has been able to twist fast enough to execute it properly. I awear I see you having something slick to say every time someone brings up biles accomplishments.

@@murasakino101 Firstly how long has the Biles dismount been in the code in comparison to the double front tuck? Strawman #1 Secondly, as I stated above it is impossible to perform the Biles without at least a roundoff, thus making a B-skill a necessity. But when a double front tuck is performed adding anything else before it actually adds difficulty. Limaryova's dismount is the most difficult series performed in WAG history; and considering that Biles doesn't even do double fronts on floor, I doubt she'd like to attempt a front handspring+double front tuck off the beam. Strawman#2 Thirdly, an F rating is hardly low. But the code of points is supposed to be systemic with its increments, not random. So if a double tuck is a D and a double pike is an E that means that the easier dismount is receiving a higher increment (0.3) for an increase in difficulty--which is literally stupid. Full-in tucks have been common among top beam-workers since the late 80s and full-in pikes since the 90s. They are not G and H skills, they are F and G skills, and their full twists should *BOTH* be worth 0.2. Strawman#3 Then in closing, it is not that I seek to bring down Biles' accomplishments, it is that I am more interested in the sport of gymnastics than worshipping a single athlete like some golden calf. As a result I'm actually able to see things from an objective standpoint and comment accordingly. I've been where people like yourself are right now, but I never allowed my infatuation to drive me to make a series of complete strawman arguments in their _defence._ This is a sport, so if you have a counter argument to make, use the code to construct it and then deliver (just like I did above, and gymnasts do when they compete), otherwise anything you say is baseless.

I still love this routine. I know Lobazniuk and Produnova had more difficulty, but my goodness the elegance of this routine is incredible.

Her routine was pretty difficult in a different way. Obviously the bhs, ff, 2 foot layout was great (glorius) but some of her leaps lost sight of beam. From a normal viewer's standpoint, those skills may not be as impressive as the acrobatics, but when you are on a 4 inch beam, losing sight of it while doing a 180 split is pretty hard. Plus, her rhythm and flow in the routine was unmatched. Even though I love Lobaznyuk and her variety in skills, her pause before the Arabian and some other wobbles costed her the gold medal. Liu deserved it that night.

liu’s acro series was beyond beautiful! And while she didn’t have a standing Arabian like lobazniuk or a double front dismount like produnova, her 3 different jump/leap elements and combo’s were much harder than any of the leaps/jumps that the Russians did!

Speaking of pauses, I just watched this and Liu has quite a few of her own. Also, she does no fewer than three variations of the same skill where she throws her head back. Katya's routine had more variety.

I'm not seeing a lot of pauses in the way that Ekaterina did before her standing Arabian. Pauses are allowed as long as they don't last too long.

Do you know how hard those ‘throws her head back’ are? They are signature leaps that always throws gymnasts off balance. Those leaps made gymnast lose sight of the beam so its really hard to land back on the beam it takes years of practice to master the skill. Silver medalist’s routine may be of a ‘variety’ but those were all low difficulties moves. And her pause right before the arabian was almost 7 seconds long and that was considered a major balance check. So Liu got her gold fair and square.

the three leaps where she throws her head back are all different variations… the first was a stag ring jump at 0:43, the second was a split ring jump (named after yang bo in 1989) at 1:06, and the third was a switch leg split ring leap at 1:20.

Are you serious? Lobaznyuk took up 6-10 seconds of her routine to do an Arabian. A huge waste of time which she could be filling with choreography and composition. Produnova was actually quite shaky. I will agree the Sydney judging was quite suspect. In fact the whole quad 97-00 judging was pretty unfair. Most of the results were very very strange.
