HPI SAVAGE 25. MY FIRST NITRO EXPERIENCE AFTER 20 YEARS.

I bought an incomplete second hand Nitro savage 25 from a friend, it had too many parts missing and summed up that it was gunna cost too much to get it up and running again. I then bought another mint savage 25 from ebay and it went wrong from there, but I don't give up and it does have a happy ending. Watch the processes I go through to get it running, with a few tips and tricks. This is solely for entertainment and none of this is meant to be taken seriously, it does so the reality of owning a nitro though, which I think some of the processes I went through was quite funny to watch..
Thanks for 👀 💯😎👍

I prefer using a roto start for mine because it starts it way faster

I wouldn't be surprised if they wouldn't start because they were too rich. Factory settings is not a magic number that will suddenly make the engine run. Tuning will make it run, so if it's rich then lean it out. The problems you're having in getting it started I see a lot, lean them out a bit. The black top engine, crack the glow plug loose when you're cranking the engine then nip it back up once the engine fires up. If you're using 16% nitro then that won't be helping. Big block engines are shimmed for high nitro content, 20 to 40% generally. Put some 25% or 30% in them and they'll go

Hpi engines are made by force, the lack of pinch on the purple Mill is the sign of a worn liner and piston.

Thanks man. I appreciate your response. Yes I found a deep score on the piston and liner which was causing the lack of pinching. The piston makes a great key ring though 👌

Too bad the cylinder has a deep score. If it was just worn out you can send out the piston and sleeve for a repinch to get more life out of it

This axial roto start also works. The Axial AX0507 roto start. Some still seem to be available. It doesn't tighten down all the way to the back plate there is like a 1mm gap but I use extra long screws washers as spacers and loctite so it holds and works. The LRP roto start and pull start have a larger bolt pattern so it will not bolt to back plate. It will fit if you re drill the 4 holes to the correct location but I happened to have the Axial and it worked.

Hello, that is an italian Novarossi 528xsp .28 5 port pull start. Its pretty much the little brother to one of the best and most powerful engines ever made for Monster trucks. The big brother being the 528xr 8 port factory modified .28 with turbo plug.

Yes it's a Novarossi top 528x T528XSP. Not sure if it's a 5 port pull start?? 🤔 It's good to hear from someone who knows a bit about one of these engines as I don't have a clue. It needs a new pull start as the plastic hex has rounded off and I can't find one otherwise I'd use that engine instead..

@@watersidebashers.9792 Also I believe the pull start from and HPI K series engine will work it has to have the smaller bolt pattern to fit the Novarossi back plate. The LRP rotostart and pull start have a larger bolt pattern.

@@watersidebashers.9792 The SP in the model number indicates its a 5 port pull start. The S is for Speed which is also on the head this model has the 5 port sleeve. The P is for the pull start. If it was an T528XRR the first R stands for Race which would be spelled on the head these models are 8 port sleeves and the second R would be for Rotostart. The most modified sleeve I have seen though is specifically on the Novarossi branded X528XR it has extra porting done on the sleeve from the factory. It's a bumpstart model. The other Novarossi versions have it to the roto and pull start. The other relatives to this motor do not have it those being from Top, RBconcepts and the Novarossi 28-8 series. They have the same sleeve but without the factory modifications. I put the XR model in a savage X 4.6 and I can not go full throttle until it's in second gear with stock gearing. It just flips over upside down no matter what speed until its in second. I will try it in an XL to see if it stops it. If it doesn't then I will put in a 20 tooth bell or a 44 tooth spur or both to calm it down.

Awesome video! I just got a savage 21 for somewhat around the same price and I was having the same exact problems. I posted a few shorts on my channel but I’ll post more soon. My engine is pretty beat up so I bought a new Dynamite.28 for it and just installed it today. I couldn’t get a new piston or sleeve for the engine because the only one I found on eBay was over $150 for only the sleeve and piston! But after I put in the new dynamite .28, She started right up! Have fun and enjoy don’t give up on nitro! Everything takes time this will too hahah but I’ll be fun!!! Cheers

Thanks man... yeah the replacement piston and liners are almost the cost of a complete new engine, being they're obsolete now makes them even more difficult to get parts for. I was just lucky to find a brandnew complete 4.1 bigblock boxed on ebay or else I would have put in a new engine similar to you as them dynamite engines look epic 😉 I'll check out your short. Good luck with your nitro. Happy bashing 👍😎💯

Did you choke the engine at all? I usually use syringe with fuel line at the end. And push air to the fuel tank from pipe connection as long as the fuel reaches the carburetor and a bit in. That way you only need couple of pulls and the engine runs.

I just took the fuel hose off from the exhaust and blew through the hose that connects to the fuel cap, which pressurised the tank and pushed any air out. Whilst checking for the fuel hose to carburettor to be bubble Free. I didn't show it on camera tho for some reason.. thanks for your advise I'll use a syringe next time 👍💯😎
