HP Printer Cartridges : How to Clean HP Printer Cartridges
Ғылым және технология
All HP printer cartridges can be cleaned in the same way if they have a print head on the bottom. Submerge the first quarter of a printer cartridge in boiling water with help from an employee of an ink-filling station in this free video on HP printer cartridges.

Worked perfectly! Only dunked it for 20 seconds or so. Some of the best advice ever. No difficult-to-get solvents or special equipment. To think of all the cartridges I've tossed over the years that I could have "fixed" with your simple advice. Hats off to you my friend!
Worked perfectly! Had no idea that I could partially dip an 'electronic' product into boiling water, wipe with a tissue paper, and voila! Saved me a visit to the service center in the middle of a pandemic. Thank you!
This is fantastic! The last few HP cartridges I've bought have stopped printing correctly after a relatively short time, but they still have ink in them - about 3/4 full. I tried the self-cleaning function on the printer and have "cleaned" them as many as 9 times with poor results. I searched for ways to clean the print cartridge myself and found this video. It worked like a charm! I added just a little bit of alcohol to the boiling water and soaked the print head of the cartridge for about 30 seconds and drained it on a paper towel. It printed perfectly! I have thrown away SO many cartridges that had ink in them. No more! Thank you so much for this excellent video. So easy and fast to do.
After trying a few different methods, nothing. Boiling water for a minute and hey presto! cartridges work a treat. Thankyou. Short and precise video. Good work.
I let it rest for close to ten minutes in water I'd brought to a boil, let it dry for five or so minutes, and... holy. Did it ever fix things. It's *perfect* now. Thank you so much!
Been awhile since I used my printer, saved me from getting a new cartridge. Warmed up some water and only set in for 1-2 minutes and it prints like new. Thank you very much sir.
Worked perfectly!!! I completely refilled my cartridge and it was still printing light gray. Did your trick for 20 seconds and reprinted, now it's dark black!! Thank you!!!
Spent an hour and a half working through troubleshooting....This was awesome.
It took a couple of attempts, but I followed the guidelines from other reviewers by soaking the cartridges for about 5 minutes each, blotting them dry with paper towels and then letting them air dry for about 10 minutes more. I was able to print out the 1 document I needed at this time so am cautiously optimistic that this will fully resolve the issue. The original issue was that blank pages were "printing" out.
thanks!!! Worked Great with my black ink cartridge!!! It wouldn't print at all. Your video didn't say how long to leave it in the water so I just did a couple of minutes and repeated the process one more time, dried it off, popped it in and it worked better than new!!!
How long will an cartridge bleed afterwards? How can I be sure it is not ruined? (old or over use)
Love it that I found this video!! Worked super well on a printer that had not been used in 3 months!!
Relieved that this worked 13 years after it posted. Printing out address labels and my HP machine was skipping and putting lines through text of all sizes. Ran the clean head and ink smear tests through the printer, that didn't solve the problem. A couple 3 minute soaks in hot water and dab dry with a paper towel, and back in business!
Thank you Man from 14 years ago, you saved the day with your sage, learned advice. I was getting ready to make a warranty claim on this thing! But it worked like a charm. I hope you are hanging loose and are your best life in the year 2009. Wish I could go back, too!
Worked like a charm!
This worked well for my "dead" cartridges. They print like new now. Thanks for the video!
You are a lifesaver! Thank You! I can't belive it worked so well.
I didn't know how long to submerge it for, but it did the trick! Thanks!
Awesome! you saved my day! I used the hot water method and it worked perfectly for me. Thank you
this was so helpful! Thank you.
Fantastic. Printing better than ever. Thanks a million!
thx alot it really worked, highly recommended
Awesome! Did exactly what he said, added a couple of tablespoons of alcohol to the boiling water. Held each cartridge in the water for 20 seconds, dabbed each one on a paper towel, and perfect cartridges again!
on color contaminated cells, can it be revived by emptying then re-introducing correct colors, cartridge prices have gone crazy lately, thanks, regards,
Worked like a charm. I was worried the hot water might melt the plastic so I probably removed the cartridge too soon. I may have had even better results.
oh my word IT WORKED! .. this guy saved my headache from another second of fixing this full ink cartdridge from appearing empty due to it being clogged.. BOILING water , simple nice trick thank you so much. :)
OMG It is SO surprising when something actually WORKS! THANK YOU!! I did it twice, the 2nd time wih about 1/4 C alcohol to about 1 C water boiled together. Dipped the thing up and down in the water a bit and held it there too, for about 20 seconds. Dabbed it dry with some paper towels. FABULOUS!
So Helpful been print in blue ink when I wanted black for weeks - Thank you.
THANKYOU SO MUCH. Final summative for Geo due in 9 hours, and I thought I was totally screwed. THANKS!!!
Well i have problem with my printer i get used HP840c (working) but it prints only blak pages for me (sometimes a blue line) ... i dunno whats wrong
I have an ~18 year old printer, pulled out of storage with a ~ 4 year old (or more) cartridge. It printed terribly, and I thought it was ridiculous to try. 10 min. in boiling water + dry time, and it prints as if brand new! Thank you, this is a great money-saving help!
Thank you, Taylor; this worked. There were some questions I had while doing this. First how long do you leave the cartridge in the water? Two how long do you wait before putting the cartridge back in the printer? In spite of my questions, I did this, and late last night I put the cartridge back in my printer but waited until this morning to try printing. It worked perfectly!
worked great for me. i left mine in hot water/alcohol for like 10 min. cartridge was almost good as new. if ur cartridge dried out a lot(usually dries if its not in use for extended period) u can see chunks of dried out ink in the water solution.
Thank you! This worked perfectly.
thats a good worked pls tell me how to clean cartridge inside
Thanks! Very grateful -- I had tried everything, and this was the only thing that worked.
Which solvent ink is best to refill hp 2590 black?
Just tried this and it worked on a 3 month old costco ink refill! thanks a bunch!
Great tip! Saved me a trip to the store
This saved my cartridge from a hammer kick:)) Thanks! It works perfectly! I didn't added the alcohol and it worked without it.
It worked! You didn’t say how long to submerge in the water but I would say it was just about 5 seconds.
How long do you leave it in the water??
This is the only method that worked for me. Thanks
SO helpful. Thank you!
This method worked for me! Thank you!
I have an HP PSC 750 and when everytime i print, its always pink. I already replace the ink with a new one, but everytime I align the catridges by scanning the paper, it wont work. Need help!!!
Amazing! Thank you! My printer is working properly again🙂
Thanks a lot. It worked for me. Hot water for just a couple of minute
Awesome, this worked!HP Deskjet 1050A had white lines throught text, printer had not been used in a while, thanks!
I have a Photosmart c3100 series. I have tried hard resetting, cleaning rollers, powering on and off, changing settings, could not print a test due to it not picking up paper, and pretty much everything that the websites recommend doing. The rollers inside the printer, the first set are not spinning (the ones that are touching the paper as soon as you put it in the printer). Inside their is the big thick roller which was shown in the video and a smaller one which seems to just hold the paper down. The bigger one is not spinning. Resulting in the paper not being picked up. I do not know why those rollers are not moving but the gears are all fine because when i push it with my finger they move fine. The rollers do grip on to paper and i have cleaned them they are just not spinning. How can i Fix this? thanks for your time. If pictures or a video will help i can try to upload one just let me know.
Great really works! Tip use isopropyl afterwards on the pcb contact as water will create corrosion.
Worked perfectly! Thanks!!
It does work. Found out the colour cartridge prints out only in light green so it is bad. Neither cartridge printed out before. Black appears ok.
It works great! Thanks for sharing.
How long do you keep it in the water?
Man what can i say! Perfect!!! I use to use prefumes to clean them, and it didn't work that well! but this time it works as if it was new! Thank you and keep it up
Worked much better than the HP App, thank you very much for sharing👍❤️✌️
Thank you very much... It solved my problem!
what happens in the case that the color does not disolve? I have a HP 88 printhead and although yellow comes fine black does not come out at all... would really appreciate your feedback in this! have used boiling water and pure alcohol!
wow water trick worked !!! I have tried alcohol before but not good results
I'm sure glad I looked this up :)
I had tried various option for days short of getting a new expensive print head. This worked like MAGIC.Needed just 2 minutes of hot water!
Worked like a charm! HP61 black cartridge right out of the package wouldn't print (wtf). Glad I found this.
This worked great -- thanks. Tip - I took another posters advice and dipped several times then dabbed the area on paper towelafter each dip.
It worked!Thanks so much!
Wow. Advice from 15 years ago worked. After doing this, my lyric sheets printed perfectly. Before, it was doing that stupid thing where it skips lines. 🎉

is it ok, when the cartridge sink into a hot water or an alchohol? i think that liquid will go inside the cartridge..it will difficult to get it out... and will mix it to the ink... you know what i mean?
This definitely helped my ink cartridge print out a few more pages! But unfortunately and confusingly, i think i will have to buy a new ink cartidge - even though i just bought mine a few weeks ago...

How would you clean the top of your HP printer? Would you use a damp warm cloth?
This is great info, except he doesn't say how long to leave it in the water. Do you let it dry for a while after dabbing it on the paper, or what.
