I'm curious if you're going to come out with a 'Best Gaming Laptops of 2021' for various budgets. It's getting a little confusing trying to compare the Omen to the Nitro while the Legion 5 pro, Asus M16, and other laptops are all similar (?) specs. In my country, it's basically impossible to get anything above a 3060 until at least January so I'm kind of at a loss of what to do. Been considering the Legion 5 Pro though. Or should I just wait for next year's models? >.

Dont buy legion pro 5 because i want to buy it and there is only couple of them in my country :D
considering the nitro 5 because here in my country its price is relatively close to msrp in the US, the hp omen is unfortunately just too expensive
Honestly I'd love if you covered the long terms costs and upgradability as well. In places where M.2 drives cost as much as 100 to 150$ and when the entire laptop comes for around 700-800$ I would rather go for the one for which I can replace or add a normal HDD 2.5 inch drive instead of spending the amount on a M.2. Hardware these days is pretty powerful and if the past is anything to go by (1060 lasting as long as they have) if properly taken care of these laptops could easily last 6-7 years with a RAM upgrade. By then the battery anyway dies out.

Hi man great review, so this new version of the Omen 15 has a better autonomy compared to the oldest versions?
I like all your videos, the only thing I noticed was that when you compared gaming performance, I felt like a a few laptops were missing. For example the Asus Rog strix g15/17 with rtx 3070 115w with 15w dynamic boost. Would be nice if you added that to the list 🙂

Thanks for the review, right now I'm thinking to choose between the ryzen 7 nitro 5 with 240hz screen that priced at 1179 dollars and hp omen that had same spec like the video at 1210 dollars. should I choose the omen rather than the nitro 5?
The mini display port may not be such an advantage on the omen. In the 2020 Omen, if you connect an external monitor to it via mini display port and the laptop goes to sleep, you will lose WiFi. You then need to disconnect all cables and shut down and restart. This is a known issue with the omen and hasn't been fixed yet. It's just something to be aware in case it still hasn't been fixed in the 2021 Omen. It's still miles better then the Nitro though...
At 4:32 you show a chart with WiFi speeds and have the L5P at the top labelled as having an Intel WiFi card, but my L5P has a MediaTek card. Do they just ship with whatever is available or something, or does it depend on region?

Got myself the same Omen 15 2021 exact model and spec. Great laptop all rounder, except the battery and lack of type C charging. But its been an amazing experience for me. Played Fallout 4 2k at Ultra settings, got around solid 60fps, amazing. Farcry 5 1080p HD high setting, solid 60fps. But since the ryzen 5600h is relatively new, you cant use ryzen master to downvolt it. Maybe in the future I guess.

Ive had the nitro 5 since December, got it on Rollback sale for 800$, and its been absolutely incredible since, i think people forget that just because of whats seen on paper can be better when you actually look into it at last, its definitely best ro use it though if for pure gaming (Like me, I use social life on ipad pro) but really, its not as bad as people are saying, only flawed ive had over the 6-7 months is the fans can be loud on powerful games (loudest i got being Persona 5 Scramble, games like SR3 Remastered and Halo Reach shockingly were slightly quieter) but if you can manage to focus on game audio or have headphones to spare, the fan problem just becomes second nature and wont bother, definitely recommend if on tight budget

Hi Jarrod! , It would really help me if you share your opinion, I really cant decide between the ACER NITRO 5 and Lenovo Legion 5 pro. The Acer NITRO 5 comes with Ryzen 9 5900HX and RTX 3070 (85 watts I guess..) It has 144hz Full Hd IPS diplay and said to have "3 ms" response time. Also has 1TB HDD so loading will be slow..... and costs $1780. While the Lenovo I am considering comes with Ryzen 7 5800h and RTX 3060 ( Not sure about the power limit could be 100+ watts) QHD 165hz...and costs $1958. I am really concerned about the screen response time and total system latency of the Acer nitro 5 because in your review It was the least performing laptop. Do you think With the better cpu and graphics the latency and response time might improve? I really dont care about the build quality or speakers but just functionality and performance... I will play Minecraft with RTX, Coding and Light streaming ... I really dont play AAA games but in the future I might. The acer has a better cpu and Extra 2gb vram and cheaper..... but the lenovo better screen, higher refresh rate and probably high power RTX 3060 but EXPENSIVE! I cant really say which one is Future proof.... I would love to know your opinion Jarrod, about which is the better laptop and future proof... Whatever you'll say I will but it. Thanks.

No it will not bloat the battery actually when you are gaming at 100% battery, it will just use the power directly coming from the charger. The charging will only resume when there is watt decrease or watt change in the battery.

To be honest, linux compatibility cannot be measured until you install it completely on your machine (that is, it cannot be measured through a live cd) 😂😅

The reason nitro has decreased in battery life is because of the high refresh rate of the screen and the gpu,but it mostly the screen that make it more power hungry
Okay. But the sound of the Omen keyboard. It's just so satisfying!
Is the Omen's lid made of plastic or is it all some metal alloy?
Thought the Omens compete more with the Helios line, and the Nitros are more in line with the Gaming Pavilions? I do like Acers with their storage options having 2 m.2s and a 2.5 bay regardless of specs are great. Other manufacturers will only include a 2nd m.2 slot if you go with a higher tier GPU. Only issues I have with Acer is they don't have a SD slot, bad port placement, and only a 4 zone RGB KB. The Helios also jumped in price after they came back in stock a few months ago leading me to get a MSI GL65 Leopard. HP dumped the numpad, and 2.5 bay for a 2nd m.2 slot.

Looking at the specs of both displays, I'm curious. Which is more important or noticeable in a display? Colour Gamut or Contrast Ratio? 63% vs 90% sRGB and (1613:1) vs (951:1) contrast.
@defiantgg1831
2 жыл бұрын
Generally id say color gamut is more noticeable, especially if its only 63% sRGB. As this will make watching videos, or sightseeing games much more bland, and it wont look like it was intended by the creators. The contrast is also important, but im not an expert and wont try explaining it. Go for the higher color gamut display, though keep response times and refresh rate in mind aswell, as these 2 are both more important than color gamut, OR contrast in a gaming machine. (If its solely for gaming) Try looking at the display in a store if possible. If you have further questions feel free to ask me, or ofc you can google it. :) good day, hope this helped.

I've been wanting a new laptop but you know money is tight so I would pick the cheaper choice but at the same time I want a laptop that can last for long and knowing that the Acer nitro 5 is notorious for its thermals that would mean a shorter lifespan + budget the lifespan I assume would be 3-4 years if lucky. The nitro 5 here with an i5 11th gen, 512SDD, 8GB ram costs about 700$+ and that's crazy cheap for the nitro 5, I've heard that The nitro has increased in quality throughout the years of release to become one of the best laptops for gaming but still it has bad thermals so idk Since I heard that The nitro 5 will add something new each year and if they have better thermals or something crazy this year then wow I'm definitely buying the nitro 5 I'm still picking between the Legion 5 and Nitro 5 because there was a sale in the past for the Legion 5 for just 1000$ for the Ryzen 5 and that's a killer, if that sale comes up again I'm definitely buying the Legion 5 instead. The nitro 5s original on sale price ranges from 700-900 here The Legion 5 ranges from 1200-1500 But the downside of this is it isn't amd and that would mean the battery life might zip past me in a couple of hours when i game. If the 1000$ sale comes up again I'm definitely getting the Legion 5. If I'm strict on money I'd just have to go for the nitro 5 haha thank you for the review Jarrod 🙏

I know I'm a nitro 5 user but no doubt that if you can afford it, get the legion 5 it's performance is outstanding compared to the nitro 5 and since it's only a couple hundred dollars more I think it'll give you a better value for your money.
I wonder a lot every time, why are there people disliking his videos ..?? like I don't get it.
Please review Acer Helios 300 (2021 model) with i7 11800h and 3060.
Funny, my 17.3 inch has 40-144 Hz Freesync (Nitro 5 with 3060 and 5600H) EDIT: 48-144 Hz freesync range as reported by the AMD Radeon Software (and I've got Variable refresh rate toggle in advanced display in System Settings)
Anyone know if laptops with Intel 11th or Ryzen 5000 and RTX 2000 series will arrive?

It's not going to happen.
I bought my nitro 5 last summer thanks partly to your great reviews as I was looking for an entry gaming laptop. Although one thing that I have noticed common with my laptop i5 9300h/1650 and your reviews are the cpu thermals around 90 deg C when gaming under certain loads. I personally don't care about chassis thermals but as far as I can tell it is potentially damaging to run these thermals on the electronics over time. As I am new to pc, I would be interested in content on decreasing cpu temps while gaming as I'd prefer longevity for my laptop over performance gains and haven't found reliable information on this elsewhere and I think that this may be a relevant issue for laptop gamers. Thanks for all the content.

Same. I value longevity too. I have I7 9750 / 1650 and thermals were killing me last summer. Slapped some new thermal paste and limited games to 65 fps (my panel is 60hz anyways.). Results are great with CPU 67 degrees celsius tops. This laptop will die with me :D

@@kaanasdf8131 thanks for the advice I am still under warranty so I'd rather not open up the hardware. I believe that there must be a solution via software as I have seen references to cpu power management max state in the power options although it is unclear to me what exactly this does, also I believe undervolting may be relevant as well although I am less clear with this option. I believe limiting frame cap in nvidia software might be viable although I am unsure of the result on temps as I would like to allow for high fps for multiplayer even with 60hz to minimize input lag but idk if this is relevant at low skill levels. I may just have to vsync 60fps we'll see, just trying to expand my options.

You use Ryzen Controller for Ryzen CPU. ThrottleStop for Intel CPU. Ofc enabling UV and UC changes with laptops so you have to figure that out by yourself.

Repaste, turn off turboboost, set right windowse powerplan, put something under back side of laptop to improve airflow
Hi Jarrod, Can you please install Kaspersky first into Nitro 5. Then checking if your Nitro 5 has Kaspersky Malware warning when you uninstall Acer User Experience, Acer Quick Access service software? Please install Kaspersky first. Truly appreciate!
