    Props to HP for creating a easy bios recovery available via USB + B key. Other laptop manufacturers should take notice.

    Thank you for this! It turned out my issue was caused by a dead fan but getting the bios recovery going meant that I was able to work out that the screen back light was out...

    Once did a BIOS recovery for my HP a couple of years ago and thought it would be that easy for all laptops until i came across other brands. Nice video once again Sorin

    This happened because Windows right now has included BIOS repositories in their update system. It causes BIOS to be update with Windows updates. This is totaly insane. It shouldn't be like this. People don't know how to behave when there's Bios update and they try to cancel it sometimes which causes bios malfunction.

    I was going to write the same as you did. My Huawei do update BIOS after running Windows Update. The only way to prevent it, is to enable BitLocker. You need to suspend BitLocker if you update your BIOS.

    @@cezartorescu Unfortunately most basic functions don't work on Linux on newer hardware. Hell even on my 11th gen laptop it took me days to get everything working and it still wasn't 100% with linux. Then on top of that the battery life was terrible. Windows unfortunately works in most people's cases out of box where Linux even after all these years still is a pain to setup which is quite unfortunate as I personally prefer linux.

    this is a very common problem with HP laptops, customers freak out very quickly when their system appears dead. It can be misleading though with some of the flashes, usually theres a recovery mechanism built into these systems, but always better if a technician knows how to reflash a bios. Unfortunately, many of the colleges are not teaching thir students correctly, as well as omitting DOS from the ciriculum...great video as usual :)

    Thank you so much for this video. I have an Acer laptop with a similar problem. It had been stolen by a thief and when it was returned to me by the police it wouldn't turn on for a day, then start slowly and boot successfully, but turn off again, then, with a new operating system installed, it wouldn't boot unless I used the boot menu myself and wouldn't remember the changes I made to the bios, including the uefi boot entry of my operating system the next day, black screen the next day and so on. I've already changed the cmos battery, tried to access uefi through a linux app, tried loading the kernel in grub, reinstalled debian 3 times, but I will now do these steps just to make sure I haven't missed an opportunity to fix the machine. There is still a probability that the spot on the mainboard, which is close to the cmos section is the problem, but my thinking is, if it's broken, then why does it sometimes run flawlessly and not at all on other days? And why does it remember the uefi settings after turning it off once, forgets half of it during it's second sleep, and suffer complete bios amnesia the third time? (I'm sorry if this sounds convoluted, I have spent a lot of time trying to fix it already.) Anyways, thank you, I've been watching your channel for days now and even if I can not fix my device, I am definitely learning a lot in the process. 👍🙏

    the bios memory chip in this laptop is a low power non-volatile cmos ram chip - well NV so long as it’s independent button cell is not disconnected. i was impressed with your procedure. in step 1 you removed & replaced the cmos bios battery. this would clear the bios memory to random state (mybe all zeros). but bios then needs to be reinstalled.could as part of startup procedure whereby (i’m guessing) the bios is copied from the hard drive back to the cmos chip. this did not work for whatever reason, the computer didn’t startup. so you then began step 2 - to download a special HP ‘bios upgrade’ program for this model laptop to a usb drive using another computer. plug this device into usb port of non-working one. start it & by default the program runs & updates the bios chip to factory status (only on HP machines of course). (this removes the need for a separate programming device & thus streamlines the update procedure.) Of course assumes laptop has nothing wrong apart from need for corrupt bios to be reset. would you agree or have i got it all wrong?

    Huge improvement by the manufacturer (HP in this case), in this way a normal, ordinary repair technician, minimally familiar with the Operating System of your PC and handling basic packages can perform this type of work in a simple way. Another way of saying it, I am electronic (hardware) NOT a programmer (software), that is, good for HP: I expect no less from any recognized manufacturer! I see that, at least in this case; they are heading or heading towards the place that corresponds to them or make our lives easier. What is it difficult for them to do so! Thanks for your time and sharing. All the best.

    That was about like updating my desktop BIOS. Though in more than 30 years of computers and tinkering with them I've never had a BIOS simply get corrupted. I've updated countless times (thankfully never bricking a MB, whew...lol). How does a BIOS even get corrupted? Can a Windows update cause it on a laptop? Or some kind of hardware failure?

  • @TheRealFrank0

    @TheRealFrank0

    Unexpected power failure. Yes, with time, such updates have fail-safes in place so that issues like these never happen. But sometimes, not often, these things do happen. BIOS can be corrupted, and therefore, BIOS flashing is required. Some cases are lucky where like HP, you just plug a USB and sometimes, not so lucky.

    I need an answer from bios experts on here , HP probook 650 G1 . L78 family with dedicated AMD 8750M this laptop had a very strange issue it takes like one min to turn on and keyboard freeze and stop working , of course laptop was taken apart , tried new keyboard even switched the board into other similar model just to roll out bad touchpad or usb daughter board . tried over 7 bios they all cleaned ME region they all have the same result , delay start and non responsive keyboard , to my surprise I tried bios for L77 family the UMA version and the laptop booted fine , keyboard and everything working perfect except the error message "the machine is not in commitment state" which it didn't bother my customer as long as the laptop boot and everything working fine.could someone pls explain why the UMA bios version worked fine and not the original bios . also I forgot the AMD 8750M was not detected in windows with the original bios and of course it won't be detected either by the UMA bios . I just need explanation for this behaviour . could be the dedicated AMD gpu died and caused all of that and by flashing UMA bios version it disabled it from the bios ?pls explain

    Hold down the actual letter "B" when you turn on the computer (be sure the USB drive with the BIOS & recovery program is inserted before you turn on!). This forces the laptop to look for the USB drive recovery files/BIOS to begin the repair.
