After watching this video i think you reached the next level of laptop repairing, that laptop will repaired by laptop it self when you going to touch it. Thanks master sorin keep uploading video i’m still learning 😁👍🏻
You talking and explaining things is so relaxing!
I don't smell anything Also: the lesson is good. We learn how to think, and in what order to think it in. We learn to make measurements to test our conclusions.
Just Love Your Vids Have Seen Them all Can't get Enough of Them Love the Way You can Explain Things Great Job Keep it UP !!!!
As I observed after more and more laptop repair videos are uploaded you start to explain in a more detailed way how to diagnose these issues, better like a good teacher ;) :D, theory and practice at the same time in a real scenario , we would like to thank you for sharing with us your knowlegde. In this way we can not just learn something but we enjoy to watch and learn laptop repairs. :)
Thank you Teacher Sorin! This was a great video showing how a screen can cause problems. My bet is its the connector on the screen which wasn't installed correctly when someone messed with it. Thank you again Sorin!!!!!
Sorin, this was the best job! We all have run into this insanity where we go to fix something.. take it apart find nothing and it just starts to work again... Frustrating I know.. Because all of us that go to repair things be it computers, cars, washing machines you name it.. When they just start working we know that we have not fixed it properly and that whatever was wrong it will happen again.. Keep us posted if you find anything in further investigation.. or if it comes back to you again with the same problem.. Thanks my friend... carry on!
you still good at explaining things, never get tire of explaining to newbies
I can't thank you enough Sorin You are my mentor for sure, i learn more from you that i've learn in 3 years on School. I wish You a merry christmas and a great 2020.
It’s a great lesson, Master Sorin! I learned that mysterious things can happen with electronics. It’s an accidental fix. You wanted a fix so you got a fix. The lesson was not less great. Like so many other comments also testify, you’re superb at explaining problems and taking things in a logical, step by step approach.
When the notebook fixes itself the disappointment Mr. Sorin has is priceless. Love the video, keep up the good work👍
Sorin, not only are you the best of the best in your profession, you have a heart to share your expertise in a manor that's easy to follow and fascinating to watch. Please accept these words from someone with a skill set similar to yours, "You are awesome". Thank you for sharing.
just found your channel buddy! loving the videos and content! amazing guy you are! keep up the great work
Bună seara, ma bucur ca te aud din nou...nu știu cum poți lucra cu mănuși. LA MULȚI ANI DE MOȘ NICOLAE!

This is a good lesson. Things that are half broken are a nightmare to repair
hi sir , I am from Egypt if you allow me to say that the problem was at the connector of screen it self we see this a lot here in home because of dust and you 've been saying that you smell something in this laptop so when you remove the cable you make it clean by luck and it's come to life . THX for every thing I learned from you .
Sorin every video even without replacing component is teaching video. I am trying to think in advance what is the next step and watch if I am right. I have to learn more about power supply to be able to buy correct one with and later on without short circuit protection. Keep up good work.
I had that problem and it was lcd cable problem, when I moved cable it started to work but I've replaced it anyway (it was cheap) and it is working now with no problem
We still learning master sorin! Thanks!!
Love to see you .... Keep uploading video every day... Can't wait long
Love the video..I did not know that a screen short would cause a dead laptop. Keep up the good work.
You really, a good technician and good teacher as well . Could you please make us some videos talking us through understanding schematics of laptop repair, how they conducted and HOW one can easily get schematics of laptop from internet. Thanks.
This onenof best lesson i watch. Thanks i learn the logic on how we fallow problem step by step to keep laptop clean without any ruch
I had the same problem on a HP EliteBook 840 G5. Based on your video, i slapped it around a bit, twisted, and knocked a bit. I'm not sure if the power light was on or off before starting to give it some gentle tough love, but it still did not show any other sign of life before I gave it a bit more love. Then I saw the caps lock light up for a moment... a bit more love and then keyboard light come on and it booted as normal. I have no idea where the problem actually was as I didn't even open it up.
thanks as always, good and practical explanation to details and nothing boring it was very interesting and good knowledge digested.
Awesome! Love your content! Here's an idea "How the laptops (not all of them tho) know what kind of power supply is connected and how to manipulate it?"
100% the cable... you moved it an the damaged part isn't connected to ground anymore and it shut down during movement once again! I think it's the section on the twistig point of the hinge. the cable is wrapped with "ground" and when the cable is damaged at some point, it comes and goes. OR.... ou said, that the screen got repaired before. Maybe the guy damaged the cable clamping it somewhere during reassembly.... but like you alredy said, replacing the cable is the safest and best thing to do. Maybe it's working now but closing the screen once or twice after assembling the whole thing, the failure is back and then you're just more pissed. Great Videos! Always love to watch!
Great Video, thanks for taking the time to make them. Can I ask why you measure for shorts using Diode range instead of resistance or continuity?
Honestly this video was very helpful! I've had some strange ones similar (On Macs) that all you need to do is re seat all cables and it fixes it!
Nice video, thanks for sharing. I have a similar HP Pavilion 15. Terrible design as it requires removal of almost all components just to replace the harddisk. My guess for this fault is a short in the pinched cable. As the screen was opened before it could also be that the connector was misaligned, causing a short on one end.
Another Great video Sorin. Thank you for you efforts. I was actually LOL'ing at the " It is crazy, it is insane " stuff haha :D Top guy, you are a great teacher.
I think I see what could potentially be the problem. Sorin mentioned that it looked like the screen casing had previously been removed. If that is true, the person who did it probably didn't have the cable all the way on the screen. Following up, when he disconnected the cable from the screen, no short. He then checks the screen inverter caps, fuse and mosfet, no short. He then reconnects the cable to the screen, no short. In summary, the only thing possibly wrong was the cable to the screen not all the way in.
It is always something to be learned. Always. And can be so funny at the same time. I like your relaxed attitude. Gives me giggle s.
That is called the Guru Proximity Factor, like when your car is making a strange noise, and you take it to the mechanic and once he wanders over to take a look at it after you've been waiting for half an hour and by then the car has stopped making the noise. Once the object in question is in the proximity of a Guru, it stops the problematic behavior. The Guru Proximity Factor. That is a real-life lesson...

Laptops, TVs, phones, game consoles, amplifiers in fact anything with a power cable or batteries! The repairs are always interesting ! Bring 'em all on!
thank you, i don't know anything about electronics, but i like your videos so much.
Thank you for your advice and guidance you give us. again and again
From my perspective at 22:00, the cable connection to the screen as you turn it over is askew. We already decided that the screen had been replaced, or at least opened, I think the connection to the screen, the golden fingers, was not made properly. I could be wrong
Sorin , love your videos , keep them coming !
The straightforward diagnosis is the most important method for any electronic repair works! • with the right equipment, which we begin to learn how to select for use the faults are traced step by step until found! • Seen some with poor skills at even using the multimeter!
Very thorough and precise instruction. Thank you sir.
Great vid! Had the same problem with the flex screen cable on dell e7440 . Because f the short in the cable few mosfets on the motherboard have died and power management chip was gone, partially burning the board.
very helpful thanks keep uploading videos I'm still following and learning thanks a lot.
It IS a lesson, just to find a short in the lvds cable it's worth the video! Thank You.
Thanks for the lesson, learned some things again! 👍 I didn’t see the plastic either 😂
At a similar problem, I found a crack in board. Also. Here might be poor solder connection. Suspect ribbon cable..(also). Sorting to power issue and method in short finding was excellent in review. Thank you for your instruction to my hand. *McGary
Indeed the worst case. Sometimes its just a corroded contact point causing a short and sliding the contacts across eachother accidentally clears it. Happens to me frequently the laptop recycling/repair business because we get a lot of dirty machines.. Makes it very tricky to know if your work is actually done.
I saw some smog, no it ist'n is Sorin brains burning, hope someday we all know whats faulty on that machine. Thank you Sorin have a nice weekend
You can't find any other job. You are best in this.
Good lesson sir. We always learn alaot....thanks so much.
Dear sorin. Im a love your video and also patreon. Can you please make a video explainig once and for all how does "diode mode ' check works ?
And also, a fine Christmas season with two weeks of time to relax and enjoy life.
If you look very closely you can see the very spot at which his fingers are at the bottom of the screen and when he squeezed the PCB board when the laptop loses power. The problem is at the screens ribbon cable where it connects to the left side of the connector. These types of connections that are in a lot of the Newer type of electronics are very problematic and are often overlooked by some of the best electronic technicians.
Hi man!! I am strongly believe something going on with ribbon cable or some from your components had a an EMF, and you just discharged with the multimeter. The same happened to me with a lapto that didn’t charged. I touched accidentally the two pins from the battery charging pins and after a sparkle it worked!!!

Hey man! I had the same problem, laptop completely dead, no lights whatsoever. After reading your comment, I removed the battery and touched the connector pins of laptop with a screwdriver. Boom! Laptop started working like a charm! Thanks for this comment!
Watching yr vidéos from morocco... You are à genius 💪💪💪
Display cable connector was not properly aligned into display female. Have seen this a few times.
Wow those gloves are magic.....great diagnostic video never the less
Grazy fault. That was interesting. Something made short, but what that's a big question mark. Thanks for great video!
You are the Mr. Magoo of repairs, you touch and things get's repaired LOL
It works for me. Thanks very much
Hi Sorin , I'm following your tip on learning electronics ,so I bought a faulty laptop +a motherboard for spare parts , that's the easy part ,the hard part it's the CPU upgrade , I have an i7 that seams compatibile (the board has an i3 no socket ,everything it's soldered on board even the RAM) I'm not asking for a video , but if you talk about this kind of things in one of your next video I will appreciate ,thank you in advance
i wish u do many videos everyday,,,kinda addicted to your videos.
Latex gloves kill my dexterity. Sorin can work with wool gloves and not miss a beat. :) Thank you for the video. Enjoy watching all of them!!
thank you master for teaching
Definitely Magic Fingers :D I would also go with replacing the cable .. seen that is a common fault before :)
ok things are getting better . nice video
The explanation was just good
WOW!... What a smell!... Sorin Please take all protection you can!!!
27:55 hahah...i was fooled thinking he is looking into the scope but he was vaping away...... nice u've caught my attention there
Interesting, loose cable somewhere? , dirty contacts? micro expose of display wiring?. good video, thanks!
Excellenct job you doing. Beautiful brains too and deserve awarding. But please help me with what if the charger is 19.18v but when connected ,voltage keeps changing below 3v?
Helpful repair video 👍
Hi Sorin, if you check by replaying your video, you'll see the connector on the back of the screen was slightly out and not fully plugged in socket... May be that was the cause for the short. When you plugged out and reinserted again, you seated it in the correct way and the short is gone away... Ciao from Italy

i am very happy to got ur site and i used it know
Nice woolen gloves to work on a cat piss machine ! The screen cable is showing a flattened bend so probably wires inside touching and shorted. If you straighten the cable short is gone, happens a lot. Thanks your 'magic' ☺!

Fixed laptops for years without multimeter. usually things like this broken cables or screens... Broken hard drives are just easy swap. Rarely power jack was the problem and more often charger/charger cable damaged.
Please, name the exact model of the laptop you're fixing in the title. It should bring you more views this way.
Hi Sorin! I love your videos, they are very helpful for beginner repair guy like me. If you don't mind may I ask if you know any online website where I can purchase original parts for laptop? I am repairing one which has a dead battery, unfortunately our local online shops do not offer original one, I dont want to waste money by purchasing cheap ones and just last for a month or two... Thanks Sorin, love from PHilippines!
Can easily understand your disappointment on getting it working without doing anything, you can never be sure it's not going to happen again if you've not repaired it... Great tutorial though- thanks as always!
this is a good job thank you very much
There is nothing worse than an intermittent problem.
The problem was the video cable, it was pinched and created the short. These go bad a lot. Great videos btw!
Nice One, I think it could be a miss connection of the screen from the initial Person who fixed it before. A nice lesson though. Thanks for sharing 👍
Love the mittens. Also i am glad that old desk is back. 😅 Dont like the new one. I am technician on raillways and my favorite techniqe for repair is so caled "tesla punch" 🤪 btw what about our weekend powersuply lessons?
Hello & thanks for the tutorials. How do i get those digital meters like yours ?
I very like your videos 👍 i always waiting a new videos and the new science that your share thank you very much sorin i hope i can understand and do it 😀 i m very very beginers😅
Yeah i’m watching it’s a 00:31 at my country seeing this is a new video... 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you again Sorin, following your recommendation for a linear power supply, I bought the MS305D but it is a switching power supply , would you have a suggestion where someone would have a suggestion? thank you
You have the magic touch Sorin. 😀
nice clip as always
There's a video that you teach us about mosfets where they open and close by touching them with a metal, maybe that's the case, you were checking the components with the multimeter and voilá! Maybe a component needed a bit of a charge, like a battery...
another good video from the master. could you do a video on how to detect a short/different kind of shorts where you show the actual multi meter setting and the role of black and red probe. I get confused when you say diode mode reading.. when you say look at the multi meter it is 00 volts and its short. could you show the actual position of DC charger plugged in/ or not. actual position of which option is used on multi meter i.e. diode mode or regular volt. thanks as always, you are the best
