Ғылым және технология

Hello Everyone! In todays video I will be showing you how to swap / upgrade the motherboard in your Elitebook 840 G1 to a motherboard from an Elitebook 840 G2. The G2 mobo will be upgrading our CPU from a Intel 4300U to an Intel 5300U and we will be going from integrated graphics to an AMD M260 dedicated GPU.
Please see the motherboard removal instructions I used in the link below:

Another really informative video. This is really quality content. It's great that you give explanations about the differences between the two boards and it was great learning about the Wi-Fi cards and the differences and challenges that come with swapping them. It's fascinating to see how compact everything is in a laptop compared to a desktop and how much more effort has to go into changing out parts. I also really appreciate you putting in your troubleshooting. It's refreshing seeing someone upload their failures and issues and how they overcame them rather than just seeing the end result.

This was an interesting video swapping the motherboard but what about also installing a faster CPU like an Intel i7-5600U?

As far as I know, if the mobo has that CPU, you will be able to install it since they use the same heatsink.

You will need to install the g2 card reader if you want to use the trackpad and its associated buttons because the trackpad plugs into the card reader. Thanks for watching and have a great holiday season!

Hey man, i found out the g1 also has a variant which is the same g1 but with a i7 4600u (instead of i5 4300u) and a dedicated amd radeon hd 8750m (1gb), wifi card in that one is the same, do you think it will work? i have already legacy drivers for the amd gpu and its also the same laptop version just a different variant (hp elitebook 840 g1) there are revisions: C: i3 B:i5 A: i7 with gpu. let me know thanks!

That mobo should work as long as its not coming out of a 17in laptop. I initially was looking for that mobo but it was harder to find and more expensive than the g2 I purchased. Thanks for watching, stay safe and good luck with the swap

The same SSD won't fit. As he said, G1 takes the 2242 size M.2 SATA SSD, while G2 takes the 2260 one. Dunno the answer to your 2nd question tho

Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! Amoh2513 has answered the first question. You will have to do some research, but I am pretty sure the ribbon cable is different width, so you need to get a touch screen mobo. PLEASE RESEARCH AND DO NOT TAKE MY WORD.

In order to upgrade the GPU on your G1, you need to swap the motherboard that has a GPU on it, like I did in this video. You can use either a G1 or G2 mother board in the G1 chassis.

On second thought, I think it MIGHT work, you need to be very careful and pay close attention to the mobo size and connections. But the HP zbook 14in g2 mobo looks very close but I cannot say unless I swap and test it out. Good luck!
