i've loved him for a while, but he will forever be the only artist who i like more for themselves rather than just their music. it breaks my heart to watch interviews where people dig for his beliefs for relationship status. you're completely right - he sets boundaries respectfully (as he should) and it really inspires me to do the same when family or strangers ask such personal questions too.

Let me tell you why you’re completely wrong to venerate his evasiveness: He’s a public figure who has agreed to do interviews, which are fundamentally based on the notion of finding out more about the artist. While relationship status is quite personal (though fair game in an interview), being asked about the beliefs underlying an overtly religious or philosophically-themed track is worth answering, unless you simply don’t have a good answer and are a phony. And if that is simply too hard for our sensitive boy to handle, then he is a moral coward for accepting the interview. The fact is that he’s being invited to ADVERTISE his work, and he’s taking that without offering the interviewers any value in return. This is not a good character trait.

@@sybo59 No, we are not actually entitled to that information! Interviews can and should be about the body of work he's done, I'm sure he'd talk forever about that. Just making art doesn't mean someone is signing up for a lifetime of interrogation and invasion of private life. The paparazzi shouldn't be taking pictures of the inside of anyone's home and a person can decline any kind of question they want.

I mean, is it really that hard to believe that celebrities want privacy?? There are some celebrities that don’t want to share their personal life and that’s completely okay, it’s not something they want public and they’re entitled to privacy just like any other human being. It’s just so rude that other people feel like they need to know everything about a celebrity’s life. Is it so hard to believe that Hozier is probably doing something completely normal right now? It’s good that he’s setting boundaries and interviewers need to respect that.

  • @brias.4566

No it’s not crazy to believe. It’s just fucked up how the world has made it so people make money off of invading these celebrities privacy. :/ gossip channels and tv shows, magazines, very uncomfortable interviews, you name it. now random strangers, most of the times it’s the fans, feel so entitled to know everything about and expect an explanation for everything from celebrity and it’s so weird We don’t treat them like people we kinda treat them like zoo animals “Look at me! Dance for me! Smile for me! How cute!!!” I’m sure it’s exhausting And it sucks that it’s the price you have to pay just to be known and “successful” for your work

The first guy kept pushing which was obnoxious, but everything else seemed like perfectly normal things to ask in an interview. "You made music inspired by gospel music. How does this relate to your own religious beliefs?" Totally in bounds, imo. He mentioned that he affects a particular kind of voice to entertain a friend, she was interested in hearing it. Normal human interaction.

Isn’t it crazy that people like this genuinely exist? Hozier is a real person somewhere on Earth right now, doing something; he’s (presumably) human. I find that crazy. He has this “too good to be true” quality to him… I’m seeing another artist that I believe falls into that category as well-Aurora-in September, and I can’t wait to see her irl and hear her voice directly from her, while I will still not be entirely convinced that she is actually real. Edit: I wanted to address all those replies that criticise this comment for putting the artists on a pedestal and acting like they’re not even human. The thing is, they amaze me BECAUSE they are human. It was never my intention to elevate them beyond that, but I guess my art as a writer has to be perfected, because I got overzealous and engaged in hyperboles that didn’t properly express my thoughts. I won’t delete my comment or edit what I said originally, because that feels wrong, but I will attempt to explain what I actually meant to say. They amaze me because, despite being generally like everyone else, they have put out into the world art that touched my soul. I will never forget Aurora’s songs; never as long as my mind is alive. Living on this planet, I am constantly overwhelmed by how magical humans’ ability to make art is. Aurora and Hozier are symbols of that to me, and when I compliment them I am not trying to say that they are separate from our world-that they are gods. But their art IS something godlike, I reckon… and perhaps creativity is a piece of godliness that is in everyone. But they have used their creativity so, SO well, and I think that is somewhat special. Sue me, if you want, for thinking they’re just a bit better than many people, because many people are not as good at creating things as they are. I don’t want to highlight that they are extremely rare creatures and nobody else does what they do, I’m simply saying that it is tragically easy to be much worse, and many people ARE worse. Aurora and Hozier deserve to be applauded, because it is so easy for your flaws to be what distinguishes you from others, but they have let their art be what distinguishes them, instead. I wish for that to be true for myself as well, someday. I hope that this explains what I meant a bit better. Peace and love to anyone who actually read all that, I’m kinda in a “rant your head off on the internet” mood lately. :)

It's one thing to be curious about a person's life, but badgering someone for info on a detail they have politely declined to talk about just comes off as disrespectful and nosy. Then again "private life" is quite a loose term in this day of age.

All reporters dig for info, if they didn't - they'd be crappy reporters. It's up to us to set boundaries of communication and not really shame reporters for doing, you know... Their jobs 🤷‍♀️

  • @KeiraA333

Tbh this isn't so much boundary as preferences. I feel the vid is kinda sayin that if you don't hide things away you have no boundaries. Completely untrue of course. Plenty people just like to share about themselves ; plenty others prefer not to. Simply asking/wanting to know is also not bad - its how you learn a person. To each their own essentially [Personally I'd not be able to make friends w/ his type - hes very honest I appreciate that - but I'd never be able to bond to him in any way shape or form🤷‍♀️]

This is him politely telling them "Why don't we discuss more about my music, less or nothing about my personal life? you nosy-ass gossipers!" 🤣🤣 I like that he created and maintained this "mysterious" image. A lot of people don't like it but I really love how he wants his audience to focused more on the message of his music. It's quite rare for an artist like him to sell their talents instead of their relationships to gain clout.
