I have traveled in Geetanjali express for most of my school years, as most of my summer vacations were spent in Kolkata. Brought back my memories. Sleeper class travels when the train was pulled by Steam engines was something I won't forget... Sad to see awful maintenance at a time when this is a given.. But this train has always been close to my heart.

The Howrah-Mumbai mainline is disturbed in the SECR zone (After Jharsuguda till Gondia). Nowadays, every train departs Mumbai or Howrah on time and is punctual before entering SECR but gets heavily delayed in SECR zone. Even Duronto gets delayed by 2-3 hrs regularly. SECR zone regularly gives priority to freight trains and coupled with that, they are some repair work going on the tracks which is causing such a drastic delay everyday. But still the zone is not doing anything to give priority to passenger trains over freight trains. This is going on since long and Rail Minister should look into this.

SECR is literally the worst zone in terms of priority for passenger trains, even premium trains arent safe from being delayed LOL, on an average 12262 Howrah Mumbai Duronto Express gets delayed by 2 Hours in SECR 😂

my Home Town is located in SECR route......There is shortage of railways track in b/w Raigarh to Rajnandgaon and lot more freight train runs due to SECL mines and power plant NTPC at Korba ...Even Mahanadi coal fields in odisha...they are heavy suppliers of Coal...that's why passenger train don't get the signal...in that route Solution: More Railway track required in SECR zone specially in Jharsuguda to Nagpur Route...

Your blogs are really very informative. Excellent effort. It is observed that most of the trains in this route including Duronto exp is getting delayed by 3-4 hours for quite some time . This is not acceptable at all. The railways seems to have taken the passengers for granted.

Something third line work has been doing between Jharsuguda and Raipur , that's why trains are getting delayed. Hope within a month or so it will be ok

@@ronydey8826 SECR prefers running freight trains much more than passenger trains. That is the main reason as main lines are always occupied by freights while passenger trains skip stations via loop. Plus you can even witness freight trains overtaking passenger trains

I have travelled extensively on this route from 1981 to1988 and believe me some times the plates( with compartment ) were not even properly washed so the less said about the food the better , as being a sales and service engg and having a sugar coated tongue ( requirement of profession ) a vendor/seller showed me the way. As i boarded the train i visited the pantry car spoke nicely to the manager , cook etc praised their hard work( which is true) befriended them esp cook and manager and the result i could eat in pantry car ( sleeper class passengers are offered only eggs and no chicken or fish in non-veg they might complain ) , plate washed clean (on request) fresh chapatis , cold water , ( in 80 no cold water bottle ) , got Chicken /fish served to first class only or other dishes prepared for staff for themself ( twice i got biryani on eid ) if in luck you can get a quarter ( or whatever the staff has for there consumption) . but for all this you have to pay extra extra , between only Raipur - Bilaspur ( to Howrah). there was one more service . The lesson is NEVER be rude , overbearing , insulting but be nice and friendly and you will notice the difference . this became my modus operandi for all over India tours . sorry for such long answer .

They should be offering good service first and then they will automatically get all the praise they deserve. What you are saying is impossible for elderly people or women who are traveling alone. One should not have to use such 'strategies' for good service.
