A tip about VSync. Games VSync are heavyer than Video Card's. TURN OFF the in game VSync and TURN ON the VSync on the NVIDIA Control Panel - Program "Hogwarts Legacy" Settings

Thats not always true, digital foundry has mentioned this multiple times already, sometimes the in-game vsync really IS better than nvidia's cp, you only use nvidia cp if the game's vsync is broken or bad implemented. This is the bad thing about pc gaming, you have to do devs jobs multiple times because you never know what is working and what is not and need to test it by yourself, sometimes rivatuners frame limiter is worse than nvidia's cp and sometimes the in-game fps limiter is better than both, there is a lot of testing to do on pc, this is sad and it gets really depressing after few years of doing it.

@@igorrafael7429 this is what I was going to say. I have heard otherwise. I have turned off my vsync in nvidia and I only run it in game. Well I have it set to app controlled. I also only ever use it in rpg games.

@@PEEKY.produkcja I dont know enough if one is more demanding than the other but drivers can control vsync the same way a game would. disabling it in a game wouldnt turn it off it just doesnt turn it on, so if its on with drivers the game doesnt disable vsync it just allows the frames to go up and get stopped by the drivers.

Everyone was blaming my PC… But my 1070 is running 110 frames on average then tanks to 10fps on scene changes and after heavy load ins. Not bashing the game since it literally is still pre launch. But it needs an optimization patch bad.

It's seems to be related with world loding, the game has a lot of hidden loding screens that may not be optimize as of now, causing the GPU to hit 100% utilization and then you have the frame drops going to the Menu gives it time to load, walking will do the same.

Problems are adressed to CPU, not GPU at all. Most scenarios where stutters occurs, are cpu bound locations.

@@PEEKY.produkcja well in my case, that was not the problem, the cpu was no where close to 100% utilization at any given point. The GPU on the other Hand would hit 100% and then the problem would happen.

My GPU never hit 100% or even 95%. Ever. When it lagged GPU usage dropped as low as 51%. Serious background issues with this game for the GPU to be running out of things to do.

RTX 3090 , I9 12900kf , 32GB ram , 4K monitor : I had huge FPS drop problems and what helped me - was to turn off Ray tracing and set upscaling to MAX (i know weird) when i had upscale like 0,10 or 0,5 i had around 60 fps and it was droping to 30s even lower then i turned it to 1 and i have pretty much zero problems with FPS game looks crispt AF sometimes there is some stutter but its very light. All my other settings are set to ULTRA and things like motion blur etc is turned off and DLSS set to quality Maybe this will help someone else too.

Yeah.. I learned about this on another site, but it did help a little for me. The game is extremely hard on ram and the gpu, more so than most games of this genre.

Glad to see this actually works with clips. Someone said changing field of view from anything but default also tanked their fps. You should try with dlss off and render in native 4k and see what you get. Also is your game on an nvme or SATA SSD?

I’m running the game on nvme. I’m going to try running native. Want to see how it will look. I’m omw to the gym, but I will update you on my outcome. Also will try putting it back on 0 FOV. I haven’t had any issues, but I’ll try these and see if it stays the same.

Yeah despite all the helpful videos the core game itself has a major memory leak problem. Nothing much we can do about that except wait for the devs to actually fix it.

You can disable v sync ingame and enable it via Nvidia control panel. Made a performance difference for me.

just go to an area where you haven't been yet, for example, run through the open world to the nearest village, this can't be fixed without game patches!

I typically would say yes, but I just got to the outskirts of Hogsmeade and the big village out North where you fight your first set of Wizards and I’m still not having an issue. My big issue was consistently in this area of the video I would freeze. No matter how many times I had been through it. Doing these things fixed that immediately for me. I’ve been playing for 10 hours plus after these changes and have not ran into any other frame drops. I had a slight and I need very slight hang up when I went into the restricted area of library. It quickly fixed after 2 seconds tho.

@@kb6358 neither console versions. still a lot of room for improvements, this is why last gen consoles version was delayed, because only strong hardware can bypass the awful optimization. consoles has many drops to 40s on any preset mode. We probably getting good performance patches when the last gen version releases since they will be FORCED to optimize it somehow. Lets not forget they confirmed they are releasing this game on nintendo switch, can you imagine? lol... The current version was clearly rushed so they can start making the money.

NOt just the optimization but Witcher 3 looks better and runs smooth and it is fully sandbox..this game even the castle has loading areas when game shutters. Just poorly optimized and designed.

In many games once an area loads, it no longer stutters or lags. But this game will always lag and stutter every time you come back to the same area.

I feel that. I knew I wasn’t going to reading, but if I couldn’t find a fix I definitely was not going to play for a week and wait for the devs to do a patch. Hopefully when the patch drops we can all run on recommended settings.

this fixed the stuttering...but the fps drop still happens... in some areas i run at 140FPS then i enter the hogwarts holways or on streets of hogsmeade it drops to 40FPS

No lag at all on Xbox series s but only with professor fig I get like a wierd glitchy body image problem

Does not work. Only way for me to stabilize the FPS, is to use Windowed mode with native resolution. The game will start to use GPU til 85% and not 50-60%.

I did this and my stuff is still hella stuttery. I have a 2070 super with 16g RAM and i can run lots of games but just not this one. are they gonna patch an update for this or something its literally unplayable

I do believe there will be a patch for it. I’m sure they are aware and I would be expecting a patch within the week. I know a lot of people who are not playing it right now until it gets fixed. I started a new game and have a video coming out tomorrow to show how different it plays for me now. Night and day compared to how I was initially.

Your solutions are similar to what others have released days ago. I would suggest you try to shorten your video length and just summarize the fix and not go too much into detail on areas that cause the stutters because everyone that came here already knew that. So what you can do is shorten it for those who may find your video first so they don't have to sit through the whole thing. 8min for a 30 seconds tweaking of settings is just a little too much imo. Just my 2-cents, peace. P.S it's hard to gauge if these issues will be long term because we haven't had a Day-1 patch from Nvidia yet and that usually comes during global release

CFG is a security measure, you shouldn't disable it, but if you need that extra fps, go for it.

If you update your DLSS manually it'll help. Hogwarts Legacy is using an outdated DLSS that's why it isn't optimized

btw you actually shouldn't be using vsync when the game you play isn't reaching the refresh rate of your monitor, if you use gsync or freesync then that's what you should default too as they perform better at all fps/refresh rates

I just played the game today, I played the intro and as soon I go to the first cutscene at hogwarts my game lags bad but before that it ran smooth edit: I just tried your settings and it worked for me thanks. Hopefully the devs patch this soon

Well it didn't work for me, even with a 3080 rtx i'm still having big issue with the game... Like playing with 20 fps but idk why when i put my graphics settings to ultra (like i should normaly) i can ply with more fps than average, that's weird. Use FSR instead of DLSS. Worked wonders for me.

Thank you but didn't work for me (3080). Just disable all RTX options > no more issues. 1) Game is really beautiful with rtx = it's a huge perf cost (like every rtx games) 2) RTX in HGL is actually really bad optimized, whatever settings you choose (i test all mode from low to extreme) had to wait for a patch

3080 here as well, I noticed turning population quality from ultra to high gave me a noticeably boost as well. Everything else ultra at Native resolution

Try turning off Wallpaper Engine too if you have it.
