Howell's "Elegy" was composed as a personal tribute to his friend and fellow viola student who died in the battlefields during the First World War.(such a masterpiece).We thank you Herbert.

I really like how the lower notes on her viola do not sound boxy. They sound deep and real. She has a very lyrical, singing voice that is admirable. Brava.

I often come to this recording for inspiration in my own viola playing. I'm still fairly new to the instrument. But it's pieces like this that had me develop a love for this instrument! I also love how much emotion you show when you play. Not that I blame you this piece makes me feel emotional just listening to it. It's almost an absolute necessity that this piece be played with emotion, otherwise it's not going to sound nearly the same.

@@towardthesea_ And so? Irrespective of which composer came first, it is still correct to say that the piece sounds like Hovhaness, and vice versa, of course.

ANA ALVES HAS A LIGHT TOUCH AND LACKS STRENGTH IN HER ARM BUT MANAGES TO PRODUCE A VERY MELODIC SOUND FROM THE VIOLA. HER FORTE IS PRODUCTION OF A SMOOTH SINGING SOUND.

If you don't mind my asking, What is the name of the maker of the viola that you play, and the year in which the instrument was made? Thanks.
@mondschien
Жыл бұрын
The maker is Matthew Hardie. It's part of the Royal College of Music's collection of instruments. I don't play on it anymore so I can't say the year for sure but somewhere between 1755-1826.
