Yes. Arsenio took over for Joan Rivers after she left Fox. This was a little while before he got his own late night show.

What a time that was. Howard talked about everything but politics! At the time Trump was too busy chasing Russians girls, guiliani too busy chasing mobsters...lol

I don't know. Looks like he said Martha Raye, but that doesn't make sense. Maybe Merrill Markoe - writer, ex girlfriend of Dave.

It’s actress Martha Raye - I looked it up. She filed a lawsuit against Letterman after he made a “joke” suggesting she was a condom user. He made this comment after seeing her on a commercial advertising denture powder. 🤧 I’m assuming this clip was soon after the suit and they bleeped her name out of caution.

@@r.s.7339 Correct! Dave's joke was "Martha Raye, condom wearer" because I think he was sick of the Polident commercials she did at the time.

It's easy to make fun of Stern now and rightfully so. His show has diminished tremendously. However, he was minimally a top 5 entertainer over the last 30-40 years. He's unequivocally a legend.

Howard Stern ruined civility and mainstreamized vulgarity. Everything is vulgar now.

Let’s make fun of his wife there’s plenty of material

He’s the typical guy they got picked on in high school but typically those guys start companies become tech gods or whatever this guy is just a loser all the way around right place right time
