Since you put it out there, 19/hr is about $3,000 a month, 500/3000 is only 16% of your income, that is very much a reasonable amount, if you can't make that work, I question what else you are spending on. Put down the $7 latte and buy some Folgers

But is that fair ??? Sounds like jealousy to me. Jealousy will only bring you more of what you don’t want. Plus the owners have the vessels owned in other countries to avoid taxes and such. We would do the same to avoid taxes. It is also open to you as well if you have the money to fly to the virgin Island’s/ Caribbean They require you own a business there so you would have to start your company. Then you could purchase the boat through your company. Most of us don’t have that kind of money but if we did we could do that also.

The support vessel is actually a security vessel. That's where they keep their firepower.

The berth in Antibes was owned by Leol Guinness back in the seventies when he owned Sarina. At the time he also owned the maintenance facility and slipway on the other side of the harbour wall.

Must be nice but I still prefer my Jenneau 54 Sailing vessel. I don’t need twice the number of crew as passengers and everyone contributes to the experience. These people spend Millions the way we might spend a Hundred. Fascinating video!

Cruise liners and charter yachts are similar, but a cruise liner is dedicated to carrying paying passengers full time.

The question as to, "When does a superyacht become a cruise liner", was an interesting one, but a bit of a non-question because there is no formal definition of either. It would be better just to use the term passenger vessel and yacht and describe the uses of each, but even this is difficult as the same criteria can apply to both. Both can be commercial. Both carry passengers but a commercial superyacht is limited to 12, whilst a private one can carry as many as they want. There are no definitions based on size and some superyachts are bigger than cruise liners. Indeed there is no formal definition of sizes for superyachts. The Large Yacht Code applies to 24 loa or longer, but the terms yacht, superyacht, mega yacht and giga yacht change all the time.

Agree, it's a question of purpose. I wrote a longer post above before I saw yours; here's the tldr: in France (Cannes, Nice, Antibes, Corsica, etc) you can vacation on the same vessel, with the same crew and services under "charter" or "cruise" contracts. The constraints of the "cruise" are not strong but your vacation will cost 25% less as VAT, fuel duty and other taxes are not due.

Sure there is a good reason to have that much crew. Its a government contract and it is going to be recovered from the sale so they are not even TRYING to be economic.

kind of a dumb answer, a super yacht that is chartered with the crew, is like a liner, but you can take it anywhere you like.

If the super yacht is for charter, and carries more than 12 passengers it would become a passenger ship under SOLAS

I cannot conceive of any good reason why M/Y Amadea would have 25 crew onboard. They are going nowhere and will definitely not be receiving guests. Their MSD is obviously based on unlimited and could easily be changed for a 60 mile limit which would significantly reduce their requirements. There is no need for anyone to be on rotation, they have an 8-5 job with duty Deck and Engr on a rotational basis. If they have existing crew that were on rotation they might keep the important ones and replace the others. The interior should all be covered in drop clothes and left alone. They need 10 max.

Are you kidding? There are endless systems to be maintained. The yacht needs to be kept clean. Food prep. Piloting. Docking, on and on...plus, when you have that kind of money , you want everything kept pristine and in proper working order.

one question, do you really pay in advance for a ship? or is a payment guarantee enough? Because if the shipyard has been paid in advance, they are in no rush to complete the boat and register it with a sanctioned person, but if the shipyard has paid everything, they want to get the boat sold so they get back the capital they are out with, it is in their interest to get the boat ready and sold then. Or how is it?

I have a vague memory of it crossing a narrow stretch of Kelsey Park lake (or a pond in a similar park) in the early 70's but most of it's time was dry docked in my bedroom. 70's plastic was brittle and I believe the hull was beyond repair and Lurssen were probably booked up.

From what I researched, docks have always been dangerous. From criminals kidnapping to the Russian govt threatening to put them in jail if they don't pay up.
