The one and only aunt Viv. The produrcers changed the personality of aunt Viv so much after Janet had left that it almost seemed like uncle Phil got divorced and got married to a new wife.

Kedra Hall, according to Alfonso Ribiero (am I spelling that right?), she just became too much of a nightmare to work with. Great actress, but according to him crazy and the one person nobody could get along with. That seems to line up with what little Will Smith has said on the topic, and Janet's constant "I'm not bitter but I'm still going to act resentful 20+ years later" attitude. To be fair to the producers, assuming Alfonso's perception is accurate, they gave her three years to get her shit together.

Sunflower I never understood why the writers/producers decided to write out the second aunt viv like that.how did Janet's behavior make them decide to change her character

Kedra Hall, you got any sources for this? I'd certainly love to hear her side of the story, but I've tried from her herself and her videos... don't give me a great deal of confidence in her stability, or reliability as a witness. It's not just that I find it super weird she calls herself a "blacktress", either.

If the producers really stopped working with Janet because of her attitude then it was their right to do so but that doesn't explain why they changed the personality of aunt Viv THAT much. She went from a charismatic, strong woman to an unremarkable person. Whenever Will or the other ones got into trouble the first Vivien and Phil would solve the problem together. With the new Vivien it was different, Phil was the one who talked to the children or punished them and took responsibility for their education while she stayed in the background and hardly said anything. She became an unimportant character and also got much less screen time than Janet. Sure, nobody would play the role of aunt Viv the way Janet did but still.. they should have hired an actress who actually looks like Janet (at least a little bit) and let the personality of aunt Viv stay the same instead of changing her into another person.

As a dark skinned black woman, her representation was necessary for me to see. I firmly believe that removing her presence from that show took away much more than we will ever know. Living in this world, in these times, do you know how important REPRESENTATION is? To see someone like you (in some form or fashion) in a positive light? Do you? Will and his crew caused a lot of damage but I’m glad they’re on the journey of healing. And that’s something we all need to do too... That’s my 2cents and I’m sticking to it!

I'm not even dark-skinned (I'm regular ol' 'medium Brown's 😄!) & I always was ecstatic to see dark-skinned actors, singers, etc. get the limelight/representation cuz even as a child, I noticed how the dark-skinned kids were maligned & left out in favor of light-skinned black kids --- ESPECIALLY dark-skinned lil' girls 👧🏿! Representation for dark-skinned blacks is VERY necessary & it's a sad commentary that it's still seen as "a win 🏆 🙆🏿‍♀️" or something "special 😮" when it should be The Norm by now. Sadly 🤦🏾‍♂️, it seems bl@ck folk in general will continue to have representation issues as long as DEM FOLK 👉🏾 👨🏻‍🦳👩🏻‍🦳 run everythang 😑.

The actor who played Jeffrey said that she wanted more money and felt like she should have a bigger say and he had to tell her,the show was called Fresh Prince, will was the star. They made her an offer and gave her a deadline. She rejected the offer and changed her mind after the deadline. They didn't accept her back. THAT is how the new Aunt Viv came to be...
