How Your DNA is Out There, Without You Knowing

Police around the U.S. have embraced "genetic genealogy," which uses DNA consumers offer up to the internet to identify criminal suspects. The method has helped solve rapes and murders dating back to the 1970s. But a key facet of this powerful tool is its most controversial: it can build a detailed picture of people who have never given a sample of their DNA.

Fighting crime? Imagine your future children/grandchildren denied medical insurance. They are told they have this or that disease potential. And, this is because your great aunt or uncle did the test in the early 2020s which exposed their DNA. Its not about not having anything to hide its about how others exploit what you have/are at a personal level. That will be the greatest crime.

And it would be even more rare for them to consider how their actions might effect someone else. And when they do do something that negatively impacts someone else.... first, you would have to point it out to them, then, the typical response is "I didn't know", or "I don't care". Wait there is still so much that we do not understand about genetics. I can remember two different cases of women that it was biologically showing that they were not the mothers. In the UK they knew that particular mother gave birth to those children, so they started doing an investigation and came to realize that there were different genetics samples within her tissues, that showed a man and a woman. meaning if there was a particular case regarding forensics science it would show that there was a man and woman. in reality there was only a woman, one person female, so we don’t know that much about forensic science and genetics!!...

I am a law biding citizen and i voluntarily chose to participate in a genetics test kit.... i haven't committed any crimes, nor am i being convicted of one. The story example they show says that they didn't arrest anyone solely based on the ancestry database, it was a launch pad for confirming a suspect as a valid suspect. And then separate police DNA testing matched the criminal evidence with that found on the coffee cup.... Because this same data mining could be used to solve active cases as well as cold ones, it's problematic?

Through means of tampering and mishandling. Evidence of DNA only proves there was sort of interaction of environments or persons. There are cases where that doesn’t even occur.

You don’t share 100% identical DNA with your family members. The % match goes down the further away you get from immediate family. But the point is that you and your cousin share enough similar DNA. Imagine you commit murder & your cousin submitted an ancestry test. When the police test that DNA sample and compare it to genetic databases. Your cousin will come up as a high percentage match. This tells the police that the murderer is within that family tree, giving them a massive lead to investigate. They inevitably land on you, test your DNA & determine the genetic match between the crime scene sample & your personal DNA are close enough to implicate you in the crime.
