Robert Bly's Iron John is the most important book I ever read in my entire life. The book was both painful and informative. Painful because it made me realize what I missed out on because I had no father or father figure. I also found it informative because I realized that I was embracing a false masculinity that was destroying men. The book critiques feminism AND the ridgid conformity of conservativism during the 50's and 80's.

Very good point but equally I think that a lot of men have difficult relationships with their fathers - perhaps because of the wounds in their relationship and hence the gap.

I really liked your interpretation. As a woman it is very difficult to let my man fight, take risks, but it is essential. He feeling victorious is essential for me feeling protected.

I've been watching your videos for a while and you've been a beacon of hope to me after I dropped out of school at 13 eventually going back at 16 despite not having grade 9 I managed top of my class in grade 10 after that however my life went down hill from there; I scrapped through grade 11 and failed grades 12. I tried my best to rewrite but the passion wasn't there anymore I think I may have add and bi polar disorder anyways I lost interest in school ended up in a grocery store for about three months, taught myself how to trade. I spent a significant amount of my 20's unemployed and living at home with absolutely zero friends I was essentially a hermit who did nothing with his life because I thought trading would solve all my problems and I'd be rich. I made about $2000 and lost everything due to self sabotage after that I tried coding but I gave up after I realized that I'd never be as good as someone with a computer science degree so I gave up. I then played chess for a while but the same thing happened, I started too late to be any good so I gave up. That has kinda been a recurring theme in my life where I do something and then get bored even after doing relatively well then I quit. As of today I'm still 24 year old kissless virgin who's never had a girlfriend I don't think I'm ugly because I always got attention from women sometimes men but I just feel lackluster as if I don't have a libido although I masturbate frequently. I don't have a car nor do I have a university degree. I'm stuck at home and I contemplate suicide every day. I started drinking alcohol and smoking weed by myself of course because I don't have anyone. I literally have zero contacts on whatsapp, my fucking mother has more friends than me. My dad on the other hand is quite emotionally distant but judges harshly he told me to kill myself at 22, he said and I quote "no one will miss you". Parents don't think much of me and my mom says I shouldn't have any kids I can feel it she doesn't want me to leave and move out not that I could at the moment. I don't know what to do anymore I got another job, I start tomorrow and I'm scared. I failed at nearly everything in my life even at birth I couldn't crawl till much later that's annoying because everything in my life takes longer than I thought it would. I just finished my 12 year cycle and it's been nothing short of a nightmare I think I might just kill myself before I turn 30 I don't think I have what it takes to be a self sustaining man in this word I have no wings.

Thank you for sharing your story bro, I'm sorry to hear it's been so hard and you've had little support. But be brave man, go to this job, it's the heroic move. You don't have to be perfect right now, nor have it all worked out, just aim upwards. As the years go by and you get more and more used to challenges, you will 100% grow, but it starts with very small steps. Trust life here man, if you feel life is hopeless, then you may as well let go and have a go at life just to see what happens. It will be hard in times and there will be growing pains, but in every one of these pains is yours r recovery, growth and a step closer to freedom

Really appreciated this video, love the spiritual perspective. I'm in need for some tips.. so this is gonna get personal; I'm 27 and into awareness practice and raising my vibration thru what I eat, SR, exercise, being in nature, meditation, self talk.. all that good stuff.. but I have been presented with a challenge. Recently I ended up back at my parents house, reason being I havent really been on my shit before ( currently making that change now ) but I also see it as an opportunity to stay present while around my parents and go deeper( childhood with a lot of fear ). I find it quite hard, especially around my mom. I feel resentment. I feel like she talks to me like a kid from now and then, I think she means well.. but it feels infantalizing.. also I feel like she wants my attention a lot.. bringing up trivialities over and over.. I turn into a 12 year old boy mindset on automatic sometimes, I go unconscious. I feel trapped because I feel the resentment and want to break free from it at the same time, creating this paradox thing. Any thoughts on how to move on smoothly? I don't want to be giving of bad energy but thats what happens sometimes when I respond back to her because I feel this resentment and its just awful.

Hey bro, thanks for the detail and opening-up. Firstly it's amazing that you're working on finding yourself on a deeper level and sorting your shit out - you're at a great age to build a strong foundation. I actually identify a lot as my journey in the world of health/spirituality/self-development started when I was back living with my mother at about 26 and reconfiguring my life. It didn't feel like it at the time, but I look back on it now with such fondness as it's then I learnt to sort myself out and realised it was on me to do so. Anyway, regarding the issue with your mother, that's pretty common man. In fact it's the hardest of all our relationships to harmonise which is why the spiritual teacher Ram Dass once said "Think you're spiritually enlightened? Then go and spend a weekend with your parents..." Henceforth, I'd be aware that parent/child relationships are always a bit fraught, however you're doing the right thing in opening your inner world and building your outer world. The key is in using this time to build a beast of a foundation for your life and future as a man. Something that connects your mind, heart, body and soul and gives you deep purpose. Next it'd be enacting the plan to stand on your own two feet. If you'd like to chat more about that we can speak over email?

My plan and what I'm doing basically right now with my life is moving in with the woman I love and starting to build a new life, eventually ridding myself of any dependency whatsoever (financial is what's still left) and becoming fully self reliant. Then, I'm hoping that when I meet my parents it'll be from a new standing ground and with a completely new dynamic.

i feel i have had a different journey and to some extent a different journey. i would love to discuss and differentiate as i feel you hardly scratched the surface. considerably speaking this was a 101 not 103 and even with that there is still something more expansive to the concept.

oh there’s a lot of hate towards my mother and even rage , i’ve even gotten to the point of feelings of wanting to murder her but realise that’s just a feeling and not what i truly want to do just because she abused me and hurt me ect . it’s difficult to face the pain . as i was emasculated a lot and abused in many ways ect

Great vid but IFS will clear up a lot of the issues i have with it - "demons" is not a great view when talking about trauma - the point is illustrated by the titlle of a book by the founder - No Bad Part IFS isnt only the best model of psycholgy, (non-pathologizing while the rest are and are less effective as a result), and the most effective therapy - it's also the most effective means of discovering the Self, (the aim of meditation and the source of healing), and allowing uninterupted access to it healing that results and the peace/love of the Self that is found - feed eachother and it works faster/snowballs
