How will museums of the future look? | Sarah Kenderdine | TEDxGateway 2013

Prof. Dr. Sarah Kenderdine creates powerful interactive experiences for museums-pioneering new possibilities for visitors' engagement using emerging technologies. Sarah is Professor at the National Institute for Experimental Arts (NIEA), University of New South Wales and head of Special Projects, Museum Victoria, Australia. She is also the Director of Research at the Applied Laboratory for Interactive Visualization and Embodiment (ALiVE), City University of Hong Kong. In 2013 she received the International Council of Museum Award (Australia) and, the Australian Arts in Asia Innovation Award-for the PLACE-Hampi Museum, at the new cultural precinct at Kaladham, Karnataka. In addition, she was awarded the Tartessos Prize 2013 for contributions to virtual archaeology, worldwide and, 2013 Digital Heritage International Congress & IMéRA Foundation Fellowship. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

You cannot truly expect that the wast curiosity of humans reaches its limit by satisfying him/her self with some virtual projections of what you would like to call art? The research is magnificent, the idea of preserving ones heritage something anyone should/would/could support; however, I am also a supporter of the fact that nothing is eternal. We have to accept that fact as soon as possible, and start building monuments of our own time in order to creat the heritage of tomorrow, for our kids, for their kids, for those to come after us... it only seems that the challenges of our time are somewhat different than those of the past. Right now, instead of material, we need to preserve something far more important and that is the very world we live in.

All the things interactive media available now but with a strong and documented background is the perfect marriage between technology and humanities that people need in a day visit to a museum instead to the misinformation of the nothing trusty social media... now the next step is the money to spread it to the museum net> Great talk.

Definitelyvthe way of the future but can I request... Do not control the narrative thus by inserting animation etc. You are interpreting the past in your way, which part of your senses are getting stimulus by observing the past but do not superimpose that for the viewer. Thank you.
