"There's no grounding in asian culture, cause that's just life" no truer words have been spoken before

I think Phil would be the most strict parent if he had a daughter. He'd be like, "no one's gonna break my little girl's heart!"
Nah Jenn, you are so right and I think Christine always tried to tell Phil this. The guys always got it easy in terms of chores, hanging out with friends, choosing friends, dating and even getting critiqued on how you looked by both uncle/aunts and parents.
I feel like Chris would be a good parent. I think he'd take time to tell the kid why he said "yes" or "no" instead of being an almighty power over them who shouldn't be questioned.

Yes! And even though he might be jerk dad that says "I told you so", I think he'd also put in the time to help you figure out how to make better decisions moving forward.

ok but for a kid I think that'd be so annoying lol especially younger kids
@Pok3monLuvr

it would be annoying at first but it would stop all the "I don't wanna"s and "but no"s down the road. It's deciding to have the lesson of using your words to explain instead of throwing tantrums and ultimatums earlier rather than later. (all kids will question their parents' authority/rebel at some point. no avoiding that)
I relate to the attitude comment. My parents argue with emotion, while I use logic. When that happens, they call me a "philosophiser." It's definitely a culture thing.
OMG :'D Phil would be THAT parent, who think he's cool, and the kids would be so embarrassed of him... Sorry :D You're still amazing! :) Hopefully you will be awesome parents and we might see the next generation of Wong Fu :D I think the strongest punishment for me was the feeling of letting my parents down. Of course I got slapped a couple of times, but I quickly got over it. I always tried to prove myself to them (and to others too), so when they got angry, I thought I disappointed them and it was worse punishment than anything else they could do. So I guess It's more like emotional punishment?
I relate to Jen so much!!!! With the scared to ask for permission to go out so ..... no friends lol

For having Asian parents and mostly growing up in Bangladesh, I definitely hit the jackpot. I never really got out a lot, but I always had the freedom to do so. The fact that they gave me space to do anything made me want to do nothing that could make them unhappy. I saw my friends doing so much crap from early teenage years and I just never even wanted to do any of it. Grateful to have ammu and abbu.
Sameeeee Jenn! I'm 300+ miles away from my parents, but I can still hear their voices when I make decisions. That and my mom still calls me to tell me no alcohol (I'm over 21 already)

really, I'm ethnically chinese and I drink with my parents regularly ! Sure at times they were a bit overboard when it came to homework growing up but I did pretty well in school so, ill give them that.

Robert Tang drinking with my parents, no problem. But I'm guessing it's because I'm far away and not around, they go a little overboard thinking I'll make bad decisions. However, growing up, I never made any bad decisions: good academic standing, too many extra-currciculars they signed me up for. Though, it's possible my *older* brother ruined it for me 🤷🏻♀️
I think Jenn was trying to say that restrictions were different when she was saying boys and girls get different punishments. Girls are definitely more policed than boys usually do (i.e. can't going out late at night). It's definitely a privilege in being able to do that. But for punishment, I immediately thought about how boys got in trouble for like vandalizing walls or those big things like that while girls will get in trouble for like making her dress dirty or something like that. Parenting is definitely hard and complicated! :O

riiiiiight! we might all get the same punishment in the end, but how it got to that point in the first place is usually different! 🤷🏻♀️

My mom too. She's big on responsibility, so if I lost/can't find something, I can never ask/tell her because her default answer would be "YOU lost it, so that's your fault/not my problem"

both of my parents have always done that to me :/ literally every decision i make that isn’t the best gets blamed on me and they keep nagging me all the time saying “i’m always right, i KNEW you shouldnt have done that”. now if i make a “bad” decision, they just say “yeah, that’s your fault. i told you so. you always do this.”

Yeah as an adolescent my parents kept yelling at me for not socializing with the relatives... Little did they know it was their fault conditioning me as a kid to be scared of offending, so I kept to myself all the time.
I just realized after Ashley leaving, Jen is the only girl in lunch break.
*I LOVE working out my eyes it's probably my favorite type of work out. I would like Jenn to be my parent so we could do eye work outs together :)*

Hi Jen!
Benson: maybe like physical labour Everybody else: *disregards*
“...I just got hungry and I came back” hahahahaha oh Benson 😂
I relate to the joking abt physical discipline then realizing it was lowkey terrifying as a child. there have been so many times ive gotten spanked or beaten with all sorts of household objects and when i joke about it with friends that arent asian get so freaked out lol
I was too excited for this all day lol. I was watching a Bring it On movie as a kid once on ABC Family and of course my Indian dad walked in on the one kissing scene of the whole movie and the yelling ensued.

I feel like phil is already a DadTM
“First lunch break of 2018” they can never say that again and make sense?!🤔🙄😘❤️❤️❤️
Its oddly comforting relating to kids who got their ass whooped when they were younger. Also the conditioning thing.... So relatable....
Why is this so relatable? My parents are from Korea, and I was born there too, we immigrated to Canada when I was 7 years old. (now i'm 18) I wasn't allowed to watch certain things/ and also had to come home at 5 no later. and after school if I went somewhere I had to call my parents. Problem! didn't have a phone until I was 17... so whenever I couldn't get myself a phone or forgot to, I got huge trouble... and I did too once wished that I got grounded. cause its definiety so much better than getting.. but as I got older, they stopped punishing me that way. Instead now they tell me through words
I'm 23 and I feel like I have been so used to not going out that I just became very reserved and have never went out to hang with a friend ever in my life.
1., I would have Jen as a parent, she seems fun :D 2., I grew up with only my mom (my dad is european, not met him much), and she was, still is!! the strictest parent ever! She would beat me up for having bad grades, for not being obedient, for arriving home "late", for using the computer/internet too much, not helping her (I do), etc. Until high school I was mostly obedient, but after that, we would argue daily, wich hasn't stopped yet, and I'm already 25.... When I do something "bad", she scolds me, when I do sg good, she never praises me. When I stay home, she says: Go out! When I go out, she says: you're never home! When I went to university I secretly chose and put in 1st place a school that was far away, so i stayed in a dormitory, she was so mad...anyway, it was super hard getting rid of my habit of getting jumped in surpise and closing whatever I was doing on my laptop out of reflex when someone came in my room, cause my mom would always do that, scare the hell out of me and shout in anger that I "wasn't studying".... But finally I'm moving out soon!!!!
New years resolutions going strong 💪. I'm going grass-fed🐮. Let's see some Wong Fu work out or food videos 😀
Personalities affect parenting effectiveness too... parents' & siblings' but also the child in question. I think I'd like to have Bendad as my parent bc he can do all kinds of things. I think I'd learn a lot from him!
More! part 2!
the arguing w emotions point is so accurate!! and soo frustrating haha
I think Benson would be mellow dad that keeps kid so busy with construction projects, there wouldn’t be time to act up or rebel.
A Black Mirror Lunch Break would be amazing
I'd pick Benson! I'm confident he'd indulge all of my Lego wishes and we could work on DIY projects. I'm a gamer (something my parents thought would be a phase when they bought my first console...LMBO), but most of mine are pretty harmless? I'm not good at FPS and whatnot, so I do a lot of strategy and platform games. I think Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter..those would be my "shooter" games.
aah love you guys
In Chinese there's a saying "打是疼,骂是爱", meaning beating is to show we care while scolding is to show we love. Sums up the whole tough love thing I guess.
Lol I like Phil’s LEGO cup! 😂😂❤️
oh my god this is way too real :O so glad I'm in college now
It can certainly be tough living in two distinctly different cultures simultaneously. I'm glad to hear I wasn't alone in those difficult experiences. ^^
I would definitely choose Jenn to be my mom. Just because she’s seems the gentlest, and wouldn’t yell at me 😂😂 (looking at you Phil)

Black mirror is SOO GOOD
I feel you Jenn!! I also went through just accepting and dealing with my parent's parenting style rather than trying to rebel & just didn't have any friends outside school hours and never did anything outside of school during middle/high school
Jenn from pbs to MTV. Now she swagged out w her jean jacket n black beanie. Oh yeah 😎
I was totally distracted by Phil's Lego cup. xD
I think Jenn would be an awesome parent! Hearing how she was raised makes me believe that she would know what to say to her kids in whatever situations come up.
"Stop giving me attitude" omg that was such a real part of my childhood discipline LOL rt @ Jen talking about logic vs emotion Also I stayed in my room all the time that grounding would've been pointless LOL my parents always tried to get me to come out
omg Jen I did the same thing! just never asked to go out but then in college didn't go crazy either. there was just joy in freedom of eating whatever I wanted when I wanted lol
I completely relate to you Jen!! My freedom was buying ice cream and candy because my mom never let me have it in the house. I️ think I didn’t become rebellious in college bc I was so conditioned to think of bad consequences, so I’m honestly the “mom” of the group bc I keep everyone safe! (Thanks, mom? LOL)
You guys should have David So on lunch break to talk about asian parenting/ tiger parenting.
yeah! distance was it for me! not so much what i watched, but sitting too close was a no no
phil... because he is such a nice guy!
So relatable!!!!
6:05 "house of flying daggers!!" lol jkin i had to
Jen was runnin' that 4k Netflix Marathon! Shout out to the binge watchers! ;D
Wow, my whole childhood in around 12 minutes. O.O cool video, such a nostalgia blast! Haha by the way, I'd choose Phil or Wes to be a parent. :)
My parents are from the Caribbean and my asian friends always tell me that they had similar experiences growing up haha. Yeah I got slapped around a lot, couldn't go to sleepovers until I was like 17. Being grounded is literally a foreign concept. If I didn't wash the dishes I get yelled at haha. I definitely think that it made me more fearful to try things because I never really had those "experiences." I have never done drugs and I had my first drink of alcohol around friends my freshman year of college. I also think that my morals are pretty aligned with "doing the right thing." And my personality in general is pretty reserved so I guess it's a combination of everything.
Yup. Nature vs nurture
The accuracy of this video tho
"Attitude" or "reasoning" = "talking back to parents" lol
Totally can relate to these topics! :-)
good episode :)
I feel u jenn!!! Whenever my friends wants to go out, i don’t even ask my parents bc ik what they’re gonna say >.
THAT LEGO CUP THO
My mom wouldn't let me watch the Tellie Tubbies and I'm not mad about that now😅 I would choose Chris and Jenn as my parents because they are adorkable.
That mug is 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Havent heard the word 罰站 in so many years, still gives me the fearr 😂
Is that a friggin' LEGO mug...?!
This is fascinating to have a discussion about parenting when none of you are parents yet (that you know of). ;)
Definitely Benson. I feel like he would discipline me by taking control of my stomach and using it against me. Don't be rebellious because then you don't get food. That would definitely work on me XD
Benson: "maybe like physical labour?" lmao
I relate to Jen..being scared of the consequences xD I gave myself curfews and disciplined myself at a young age and morals was very important. It's true that kids sometimes have to learn things the hard way to understand how to make better decisions for themselves. I always saw Phil as a good father figure after they did that babysitting video with Wes and Ted loll.
I would want Jen as my parent cause is so nice and doesn't seem so strict will be a cool parent to have
I love lunch breaks cuz I relate so much
aww haha jenn is just too cute
wow I relate SO HARD with Jenn
I liked because Benson said he returned because he was hungry
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW Chris is actually a "bad" kid
I FEEL LIKE THERES NO GROUNDING IN ASIAN CULTURES BECAUSE THATS JUST LIFE Wow preach! Also about the sitting away from the screen I swear my mom pulled me away every two seconds telling me it's gonna mess up my eyes lol
Going out at 6pm lol I feel you jenn!!! 🙄
Wow I relate to Jenn so much :o I never watched sitcoms and always watched kid shows even into high school haha I also didn't even bother asking my parents a lot of things (including hanging out!) because I would get bombarded with so many questions that I kinda just didn't ask anymore ._.
Can definitely relate a lot to Jenn XD Everything in this video is totally true
I watched Whose Line and the Hot Chick often when I was in middle school, but I never got the inappropriate references until college XD
that lego cup though Phil..pretty awesome

I'll take Benson and Chris as my dads for sure.
"I feel like there's no grounding in Asian culture 'cause that's just life." That's so true. Exactly how I felt growing up. 😂
when you got all of the above as an Asian-American with Americanized parents but whose parents still had their strict Asian roots rip
I want Jenn!
"I just got hungry and came back"
For me, I think Phil would be a great older brother. But Chris would be my dad. I would appreciate the conversations we'll have.
everything Jenn said, I relate 1000000%
omg clifford and arthur
watching this made me feel like i was such a rebellious teen... i "snuck out" in terms of lying to my parents about my whereabouts when im going out. but when i did move away for a year, i didn't do anything outrageous. so i guess asian strict parenting does work??
my parents were super chillll, like super chill. i was punished but the last time I remember getting punished was when I was in elementary school. i guess it's also a trust? i didnt really go through tiger parenting but i had a lot of freedom and i guess my morals kept me in intact lol now im in nursing grad school and the more im in college, the more im getting closer to my parents than ever
Ayy it's not only me and this makes me a bit more relieved even tho I shouldn't be but I'm still a teen got so many years until I have freedom
Benson, no question
PHIL! IS THAT A LEGO CUP YOU'RE USING?????????????? GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!
I'm such a Jenn that I feel like she'd be my sister more than my parent LOL
