TV producer Anne Wood decides she’s going to make a show aimed at an audience that’s never had programmes made for it before - two and three-year-olds.
She tells the fascinating story of how spacemen and technology inspired the creation of one of the most popular kids TV shows of all time, Teletubbies.

I was 6 years old when it came out I used to love it as a little girl I lost my father that year and it cheered me up everyday 🥲🥰
In Algeria I remember about 50 middle aged men sitting in a cafe in rows watching Teletubbies back in 1999 simply because of the colors it had in such a colorless city.

Thank you for traumatizing me, I couldn't be in the same room as this show as a kid. Keep your Teletubbies to yourself 😭

The day I turned 1 years old I became a troublemaker to the police.
My childhood movie nostalgia 😢😢😢
And we all thought it was created as Anne heard a story about a child mental asylum in Bulgaria.
This show was my childhood!

How is it evil when it does the following: Language Development: The show often featured simple and repetitive language, which is beneficial for young children as it can help them develop their vocabulary and language skills. The Teletubbies' speech patterns, although nonsensical to adults, were accessible and engaging for toddlers. Social Skills: Watching the Teletubbies engage with each other and react to various situations can help children learn about social interactions, emotions, and how to cooperate with others. This can be particularly helpful for kids who are still developing their social skills. Imagination and Creativity: The show's surreal and colorful world encouraged imaginative play. Children often mimic what they see on TV, and the Teletubbies' adventures in their whimsical surroundings may have inspired imaginative play and creativity in young viewers. Visual and Auditory Stimulation: The bright and colorful visuals, along with the playful music and sound effects, provided sensory stimulation for children, which is essential for their cognitive development. Routine and Predictability: The show followed a predictable structure, with recurring segments and events. This can help children feel a sense of comfort and security, as routines are important for their emotional development. Motor Skills: The Teletubbies often engaged in simple physical activities, like dancing, running, and playing, which can encourage children to move and be active. This can help with the development of gross motor skills. Attention Span: While the show's segments were short and simple, they still required children to pay attention to follow the storyline. This can help improve a child's ability to focus and concentrate.
