@MysteriousOklahoma yes but it evens out because it can use regular fuel and is recommended to use regular fuel so if the math is done, it doesn't cost much more then a normal car with higher compression v6

@MysteriousOklahoma not sure. I'd do research of land cruisers in your area. With 100k miles, it should run like it's BRAND NEW and last more than 15 years in the future

Thanks for the review. I've owned my 1999 LC for 21 years and have put 335,000 miles on her. Up until last year I had zero issues other than routine maint. Recently I have had to have the front differential rebuilt, replaced the transfer case with a used 2001 Lexus, and replaced both CVC axles. Also had to rebuild the Rack and Pinion. Not certain all that was required but there was some clunking occurring when slowing down to about 15 mph and when shifting from park to drive/reverse. The problem seems to have been resolved and she is once again running very nicely. I have done a lot of off-roading through the San Juan Mountains, Death Valley and Sonoran Desert . Very pleased with performance with just a stock vehicle. Also have traveled throughout the U.S. which accounts for most of the miles. The most comfortable and pleasant riding vehicle I've ever owned.

Good video. Pretty typical for LCs to get such high mileage. I have owned 10 LCs since 1996 and my family still drives five of them today. My '99 LC just rolled over 400k miles this week. Another has 475k miles. The least of the five is the '06 with 268k miles. All are bombproof and keep on a rollin. Regarding the maintenance of these beasts, you mention timing belt and bearings. The TB work is recommended for like 90k miles but can certainly go much farther. I suggest paying more attention to that with the 2005 and newer models since they are interference engines but I don't worry about it with the 1998 to 2004 near as much. I have over 200k on two of my hundys TB and will do the work when I need to. The timing belt never just breaks. The water pump might go out eventually but I have replacee only one water pump in 24 years that actually went out. Regarding the bearings, there is no need at all to change or do anything to them until they go out, if ever. I have replaced or serviced one side on my daughters 2000 LC with 345k miles. Runs great and doesn't need new bearings. Maintenance is a good thing for parts of these vehicles but unless you are OCD, you can save a lot of money not wasting it on unnecessary maintenance. Believe me, I know. These vehicles are definetly built on a separate assembly line for a reason...to traverse the world and back on in sand and on third world trashy fuel.

That mileage is easy for LC. Every single Land Rover, Range Rover, Merc or X5 dont last half what LC does. If you are wealthy and money is no issue, go ahead, buy those. If you value your money, there is no substitute for LC in terms of durability and retail value. RR and X5 are probably the worst money pits on the market.

Same here Steve, 03 100 I have owned since 2004. It's interesting we are seeing the same wear seat spots, driver inside door mark, etc. I just finished the second front end 100K maintenance; rad, pump, belt, etc. I did have a failure not see by others; master cylinder failure and ABS sensors. I was traveling, so that cost me plenty but I was not upset. The truck does have new BT, great streaming sound. One of my children has been driving the LC until I can put them into a lease, but then I will take the LC back. My plans to fall in love again: full underside surface rust removal and undercoat, install Asfir aluminum front skid plate, 2" lift, BFG KM3 MTs, larger steel wheels, etc. My brother in France has an 02 TD. These vehicles are amazing. Feel lucky to own one.

They are great cars. I bought mine, used, in 2006 with 30k miles on the clock. I sold it in December 2019 with 135,000 miles on the clock. Certainly not excessive mileage for a Landcruiser! I had a young family and wanted a bulletproof car. I got that, this car never left me on the roadside with the kids. Nothing failed, but things wore out, as you'd expect. I bought another Toyota, the RAV4 Hybrid AWD. But...it was quite a wrench when we said goodbye to " Lenny - The Landcruiser"! I actually gave him a pat on the bonnet (hood) as I left the dealership.

Snap!I’ve had my 22 year old Land Cruiser Amazon for 10 years now and like you, it’s the best car I’ve ever owned or driven, hands down. Thanks you for giving me a heads up on some of the maintenance tips, especially those concerning the drivetrain. It’s amazing what a little bit of TLC will do for this vehicle. I had my car converted to run on LPG Autogas soon after I brought the car and this has further enhanced the longevity of my car. This way I can have my V8 4.7ltr petrolhead cake and eat it without having to empty my wallet every time I go to the pumps. My only wish is that I had the five speed gearbox instead of the four speed. Update: Last Saturday, the alternator finally gave up the ghost after 22 years of sterling service. I’m gonna have it reconditioned and service.and put straight back onto the car, where it belongs and forget about it for the next 22 years.

It needs to get driver seat upholstered...I’ve had a little clanking sounds still...air is cold...heat is hot!! Rear defroster and defroster system works fine!! I had the timing and water pump replaced last year...expensive, but I like it

If I recall from my 100 Series, the antenna defaults to that low position when turned on and only extends fully when you turn on the AM/FM Radio. There is a button you can use to manually extend or retract it. The button is above the Diff lock button.

The antenna is pretty easy to fix. I did it on mine. It's a common issue where the white plastic gears break apart. I think the replacement parts are $15.

My 2000 LX 470 has 260k. The driver's seat started ripping but I just put a cover on it. The engine is fine. Transmission is fine. I had to convert the hydraulic suspension to regular shocks and struts.. Needed to replace the EFI relay (easy $90 fix anyone can do. Right inside fuse box) Other than that it's just normal maintenance any car would go through. Best car ever.

I purchased a Toyota Avalon in 2002, it had 94.000 miles on it, and yes we could tell it was well cared for by its previous owner. We kept that car 15 years. That was the best car I ever owned, ever, I would even call it a super car. The only problem I ever had with that car was a check engine light. That was probably caused by computer misreading codes. We traded it in in June of 2017 for a new Toyota 4 Runner. My point is Toyota is the absolute best .

You are more than welcome to come to Gainesville, Fl to check out my 2008 Land Cruiser that has 250,000 + miles and I take it off road at this 50 acre off road track in Ocala, FL. The Land Cruiser is a beast and it never goes wrong. I can safely say that I have never in my life stopped on the road even for a flat tire. That is how much faith I have in this vehicle. It's built to last 25 years. I still use mine all the time and have many other cars too.

Congrats on the rig. I have the same one in Puerto Rico with only 70k on it. Interior and engine are like new but I have to disagree with you on the clearcoat and trim. All faded and cracked on mine, and I am in the process of replacing. Toyota paint and plastics do not hold up well to the sun down here, even compared to other vehicles. Mechanically though, a beast

Your antenna is a Grower not a Shower. You have an antenna up down button directly below your OEM hazard lights button and above the center diff lock, it lowers and raises your antenna. This is a key land cruiser feature being able to lower the antenna without ripping it off while off-roading compared to other vehicles on the market in the 90s-early 2000s. Also, my 99 has 190k on it, running absolutely perfect. So much trust in this vehicle.

I have the poor man's version, a 2006 4Runner Limited with the 2UZFE. Bought it in November 2019 with 147,000km. (91,000Miles). That's barely broken in! I had the timing belt replaced and it did need one exhaust manifold to pass safety. I wish the used car dealership would have contacted me before replacing just one side with an OEM part. For the same money, I could have gotten a pair of Stainless Thorsley headers and have done with it. As it stands now, the other side (original) has started leaking just a touch. I also replaced the shocks all around because of the XREAS system that was leaking. But all this is very good for a 15 year old vehicle. Runs like a champ. Pulls like a beast. Air still blows ice cold and everything works, even the heated seats. I'm hoping to put at least a half million kilometers on this one.
