Entrepôt Melbourne we never know if he started it from scratch or not. It is not the same reviewing your languages skills to learn a new language. If it were so easy, I would probably speak 20 languages. 1 language per year. Another point to mention is- if you learn fast, you tend to forget fast. It is not only about learn, but also recall what you have learnt. It takes time to stick all the information in your brain. We don’t know if he prepared the dialogue or not. Did he speak of the cuff?

I took a year of German in school, but nothing at all for a decade. Now, I've been at it for about 4.5 months and I'm nowhere near that speaking level, but watching this actually made me realize how much I have learned. I was able to follow along with only a few moments of confusion. I've been learning in Duolingo, mass amounts of KZread lessons, memorizing German songs and their English translation, and otherwise just trying to immerse as much as I can in the states. It's still not enough, though, and so it's quite clearly time for me to get out there and start having conversations.

Very interesting and informative video. And Jordan is definitely doing well especially after just 5 month of learning. I spent decades of learning the language but I am still not perfect when it comes to certain things like in classical literature and so on, this being a native speaker ;-). Currently I am trying to learn some Russian, tried it once and never got really going but I found a KZread channel recently which might do the trick for me: the guy running this channel is a young Russian, now living with his American wife in the US. He is teaching Russian to Americans mainly and I find his style or method by far easier than as if I would do it German to Russian ;-) Sounds maybe weird but it is what it is for me. Life is full of miracles ;-)

Both processes tend to have errors and I didn't watch all of it but for the section I did watch - it read really well. That's impressive if so.

As for his level, I would agree with the B1, which is not bad for a five-month study time. Unfortunately his pronunciation is really bad. It does not impede comprehension, but it certainly doesn't make it easy. He makes several mistakes and some of his sentences are direct translations of English constructions. Two and a half years have passed and he's probably much better today. I do hope he found the time to focus on his pronunciation and on his spoken language in general.

Just to save a lot of people a lot of pain due to this unfortunate belief: An accent doesn’t need “fixing” per se. If people understand you without effort you are fine. What’s worse is sentence structure and second wrong articles/endings. His accent is actually not that strong and today it’s even less present. Just for everyone’s information. Just met Jorden again a week ago.

M.Montaser Alhaj Ebrahim No C1, his vocabulary is not very advanced. His command of language is good to talk in common situations. The language he uses can be heard among friends,in the street, in some social situation, but not in academics field or in business.

I've been self studying german for more than 2 years in a very disorganized way(few hours here and there, months of stops etc.) therefore my level is nowhere near as Jordan's....still I can't understand why I'm not impressed at all ..living in a country for 5 months + 3/4 hrs a day of study should be enough to be better than what he achieved...I think the girl showcased in the "B1 exam in a month" video was way way way much more impressive. Anyway that's just my 2 cents...I know that probably in reality that guy is better than the majority of people

Spent 2 years learning the language. Only to realise that it doesn't matter since I am neither European nor white, it's difficult to get accepted in the society. The Bureaucracy is designed in way to keep non Europeans away. Also since I don't look like someone who might speak German, used to get to hear a lot of bad things whenever I used to go out. Like one of the politician once said "Kinder statt Inder". 10:54 Just realised the teacher proved my point. Shame

@@SmarterGermanBerlin The kind of prejudices one has, not only influences the kind of choices one makes but also how they perceive same thing differently. Everyone has their own imperfections. Imperfections by one group of people are considered cute and the same imperfections by other group of people are not. This influences not only the kind of life one has but also the opportunities one can have. Refusing being a tandem partner is a small thing, people are being refused jobs here even in technical fields. Trying to narrate one's experience in a civilized manner is not called lashing out. I agree that generalizing everyone serves no purpose but it's also equally true that not everything is perfect. A lot of people have a rosy picture in mind thanks to the different institutions promoting German Language and Culture in different countries. If you are investing so much time of your life learning a language one should be aware of the other side as well. People who don't speak German have a easier time in the beginning here since the only difficulty they face is not understanding what is what while buying grocery. But someone who understands German can have shock of their life which can make them reconsider their life choices.

The question is how you got there. Time elapsed on its own is not a useful criterion. For all you know you could have used some app or just watched yt videos which is a far more difficult way of learning due to the lack of a relevant structure. So 3y could be pretty good
