@@elliotyoung7583 口音是口音，那是accent。别说每个地区都有自己的口音。就是每个人都有口音。我觉得黑衣服的小哥哥的英文说的跟native speaker一样的顺畅一样的自然。他的英文程度其实比某些native speaker更好。

granted, many Chinese learned many vocabularies. However, the writing (taking one of the best high school of china as an example) is terrible. The topic sentence doesn't have support. Even worse, they simply list evidence (no matter accurate or not) without any reasoning that connecting evidence back to thesis. It's not their fault because the education system is only focusing on grammar and vocabulary (I know this because I was in Chinese public school before). And eventually they will forget all English because they will never use it after graduation. It's a shame.

学英语从来不是简单地学习一种符号，而是学习一种文化，一种理念，一种语感。因为语言从来不是一种符号单纯存在，它后面代表的东西太多，文化，理念，情感，各种各样的表达……了解英语，就等于了解了用英语生活的人们的思维模式，理念，观点，文化……同时语言是用来用的，不说英语，不用英语去学习知识，等于没学英语。单词也不是死记硬背的，单词就好比一个陌生人，你在用英语的过程中一次一次碰到，五次十次，你就会记住它。这是我学英语的体会。

中国两所顶级外国语大学，北外和上海外国语大学，你以为谁都可以进的呀，绝对是次顶级985大学的分数才进的去，智商和能力绝对是万里挑5的存在。

When I first visited China, I remember watching the late TV show where Ta Shan, a Canadian was teaching English in TV! Now it looks like all their students can understand English !

Mark Henry Rowswell. Of course, His pronounce is very impressive cause having learned with a master of "Xiang Sheng"(相声) which is a traditional chinese language perform art.

The English level of these students indeed impressed me a lot. Happy to see youngsters nowadays are much much better. And thanks for the interview.

I just came across your channel from Xiaomanyc 小马在纽约, and I gotta say these kids are speaking amazingly! I'm just a middle class guy from Tennessee and this was interesting to view the everyday students of China, they are very intelligent and have such a sweet charisma to them. Can't wait to watch your other videos!!

Hey Mike, great vid, good to see the confidence in these students during your conversations, especially the two fellas with glasses - you can feel that they’ve got this ‘no compliments needed’ attitude when speaking, which is pretty awesome. @@user-ek9pp2qs2v CCP都建了网络防火墙，让中国的大多数学生不能浏览外网学习英语，因为外网的英语资源很多，而墙内的资源都是垃圾

lol I'm a native bilingual and even I find those words hard to translate! I feel that 辛苦了 and 加油 and stuff are quite Chinese and while you can certainly explain what they mean, there are no true direct translation. Similarly, a straight-A student is an American concept, as other countries, China included, don't usually do letter grading.

还是需要把英语融入生活。如果总觉得英语很无趣，通过教科书考试学习，那肯定没办法做到如此流利的。但如果你的工作和生活经常用到，自己也对语言感兴趣，做到流利沟通不是很难。

I was in Shanghai for business some 20 years ago and many University students approached us at Mcdonalds to learn English. I would say their proficiency had since improved from this video.

视频里的几位受访者如果没在国外生活过，那英语真的是很不错，学一门语言，最难的就是用得地道，前两天看一电视剧，一对男女遇到了一系列危险，女孩很急，不断问男孩怎么办，男孩说“I'm processing”，我想很多中国人会说“I'm thinking” or "let me think".

Hi Mike, a very interesting interview, I am surprised with their fluent English, their English improved a lot compared to 10-20 years ago.

How well do students of the best foreign language university in Shanghai speak English? Well, definitely not as well as the kids from the best primary school Teacher Mike interviewed sometime ago. Most college students didn’t have the chance to learn English the way today’s (rich) kids can (online courses, foreign teachers, English tv shows etc.)

I don't think so. China has entered an all-round well-off period. No matter how poor you are, you can afford learning materials. As long as you want to learn English, you can buy materials and recordings to learn

究其原因 上海从上世纪二三十年代就是国际冒险家的乐园 使得上海人见多识广都拼命学英语。我在中国广州中大外语系学英文的老师就是上海人 文革十年他自学英文十年 文革结束 恢复高考 他跳过大学直接考研究生毕业后到了中大外语系 系里所有出国任务都给他 我的英文就是他教的 棒极了 。他四十多岁就是教授是系里最年轻的教授。人家文革就知道自学英文 他父亲可能是海归 。上海人一直有传统学英文 当然文革时期除外。老师也除外知道文革自学英文 。 还有中国政治中心是北京。文化中心就是上海。现在上海年轻人几乎都会讲英文 他们的老师是外国人。 我有幸在学校最好的年级受学校重视 英语老师都是海归 所以发音还是可以的 。

当我听到Colloquial 跟exquisite，我自愧不如了哈哈哈

一般情况下12岁以下开始学习一门新语言大概率可以达到母语级水平。 高中15，16岁起步，对大多数人而言已经太晚了。

@@tinaw4519 同父异母的弟弟跟我儿子情况一样。 6岁来加，从小学一年级开始读起，英文母语级，中文听说母语级，读写文盲级😁 9岁到12岁，才3年，再往后口音会逐渐淡化的，最终达到母语级的可能性很大。

As a chinese born and living in chengdu, we don't get very many opportunities to practice english so it's hard for us to speak it fluently or at all.

Hoooooly moly........ before this video, I didn't know that nowadays Chinese students' English level has been this great!! As an English language learner, I really admire them! have to catch up!!!

I think there are more adjectives in Chinese than in English, so many words may not be directly translated into English

我在上海一直到高中学的都是英式英语，但没啥机会对话。大学后听力口语都是美式为主，好像反而容易了些，很快就适应了。后来工作中虽然各国人都有，包括南非的，澳大利亚的，英国的同事，但还是美国人最多，所以是一口美音。但人算不如天算，后来我来了英国。在上海只要你有心学，不用出国就能说一口地道美语。我并非英语专业也不是上外的，我一些英语听说厉害的老师也都不是英语专业的。上外英语优势其实并不是很突出，厉害的是他小语种。

我有同学是以前上外的研究生，她学的是笔译专业，二外是法语，在中国学外语专业至少是两种外语。英语专八考试需要非常海量的词汇储备和高质量的口语能力，这是毕业的前提。另外口译和笔译发展方向也不同，口译中的同声传译是行业天花板，中国外交部这种能人比较多，都是从国内各个外国语学校最顶尖的学生中挑选培养再学习。笔译的话，需要大量的知识储备，不停更新学习，有时候翻译文学，有时候翻译医学，机械，各种新的名词。

厉害的都在那里而已。。😂😂你知道能进上外最低要多少分吗。而且那里的老师教学也很牛。

Most students speak with American accents. Guys, English is not just American English. Most can speak reasonably well. Mike needs to catch up with chinese, it is a complex language.

I know that British English is more interesting to listen to than American English. But for people who don't speak English every day, an American accent is a normal accent that they can do.

@@Madpett Agreed. But, shouldn't be one and only English, as an educator, one needs to highlight. Some words and phrases apply to American only.
